romulus-rowle:
Romulus sulked slightly, staring into his glass and half tempted to just summon some more alcohol into the glass. Glancing up when he was spoken to, he shrugged. “No matter how many of these events I attend, they never get easier. Still,” He chuckled dryly, raising his empty glass. “At least the alcohol is good.” Bellatrix was as good of company as any and he was doing what Father wanted, wasn’t he? Mingling and all that.
“Intuitive as ever, Bellatrix. I’ll be climbing that mountain for weeks, if not months.” He sighed at the thought of the work that awaited him. “Still, I’m honored to have been granted such a responsibility.” He’d personally been chosen to adjust the documents thanks to his Father, naturally. He’d be sure to thank him once he found him in the crowd. “I’ll give it it’s due diligence, of course.” A waiter appeared to replace his glass and he grabbed one for Bella as well. “Care to imbibe?”
“Well at least you don’t have to deal with the sexism,” she shrugged, chuckling wryly. There wasn’t a single society event that she had attended without having to endure at least half a dozen comments from men believing she was inferior purely because she was a woman. Thankfully it was a lot less these days, an advantage of being married and within the Dark Lord’s inner circle, but it hadn’t disappeared completely. She took their words with a grain of salt of course, she always had done, but it was still tiring to have to endure and frustrating to hold her tongue for the sake of propriety.
“I can imagine. It is most definitely not a job I envy you having, even if it is an honour to be trusted with it.” Everyone had their own ways of being of use to the Dark Lord, their way of proving their loyalty. Bellatrix had already proven herself enough to not need to worry about being unable to aid within the walls of the Ministry, though if she ever did need to she knew that she would be given a job in a heartbeat. The Dark Lord was, after all, the one pulling the strings.
Finishing the last sip from her glass, she deposited it on the try and accepted the one Romulus had grabbed for her with a smile. “Why not? It’s an evening for celebrating!

nar-cissa-malfoy:
It was all too much. Before Draco, Narcissa lived for these kinds of events. She would spend hours upon hours designing her outfit, meticulously getting ready. But now? It was entirely different. She knew her son was safe and sound. He was with his grandmother safely at home. Narcissa knew how important it was to seem normal at this event. The suspicion surrounding the death of the previous Minister was on everyone’s mind and the last thing she wanted to do was draw suspicion upon her or Lucius. Her smile stayed on as she moved through the crowd. She was every inch the Pureblood wife at a Ministry event. Even she was proud of herself. Though she could use a few minutes of rest. Making her way over to some of the tables set up for the event, she found an empty chair. There was another at the table and she smiled once more. “Do you mind if I join you?”
Glancing up at the familiar voice, a smile graced the lips of the eldest Black daughter. “Of course not. You know you’re always welcome to join me.” She shifted her position slightly, bringing her body round to face her sister. The blonde was certainly doing the Black name proud tonight. The Malfoy name too, though in Bellatrix’s mind her sister would always be more Black than Malfoy, no matter what legal documents might say. In the same way, she herself was still a Black at heart despite having taken on the Lestrange name since her marriage.
“How are you finding the evening so far? I daresay it’s more tolerable than some of the events we’ve had to endure over the years.” Which was a considerable amount, especially for Bellatrix as the eldest. Her parents had insisted on her accompanying them to such events as soon as they deemed her old enough to properly conduct herself in a formal setting, much to her chagrin. “And at least it has an actual purpose, rather than just being an excuse for people to try and better one another as they boast about their accomplishments.” Not that tonight was void of people doing that, but it thankfully wasn’t the only topic of conversation.

romulus-rowle:
Romulus side stepped a waiter carrying a tray of some fancy hors d'oeuvres, as he entered the main hall of the inauguration celebratation. He smiled and gave idle greetings here and there to those in attendance, but made his way towards the receiving line to greet the new Minister. A muscle worked in his jaw as he waited in the line with the many movers and shakers of the wizarding world, his mind lingering on the documents he’d filed earlier that day.
“Hm? Oh, yes. I’m sure Father is around here somewhere.” He replied with disinterest to the person beside him. And it was true. Cassius Rowle was surely in the room somewhere, rubbing elbows and whatever else his sort did. At last, he’d reached the Minister and done his formal introductions, monitoring his words carefully and smiling in the practiced way of a Ministry employee. Hearing the cough of the next in line over his shoulder, Romulus bade the man good day and slipped away.
Snatching a glass of some sort of alcohol off a passing tray, Romulus sighed and tossed it back quickly. With any luck he could get good and proper drunk and forget the mess on his desk. Running his other hand through his hair, he said aloud, “Where’s that waiter gone? I’ll need about twelve more of these before the night’s over.”
Bellatrix chuckled as she came to stand beside the man, taking a sip from her own glass of champagne. “Oh, come now. I don’t think tonight’s nearly as bad as it could be. As the eldest daughter of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, Bellatrix had been going to formal society events since the moment her parents deemed her old enough, and this one was definitely one of the less tedious ones. At least there was an actual purpose behind it, rather than being just an excuse for people to meet and brag about their wealth and achievements as was so often the case.
“Though somehow I’m guessing your desire for alcohol has more to do with the mountain of paperwork I’m sure has landed on your desk as a result of all this.” Unlike many here tonight, Bellatrix was one of the few who knew the reason why a new Minister was being appointed, and thus knew Romulus’ role in keeping that from becoming public knowledge.

Biography
Bellatrix knows that, as the first born of a noble and pureblood family, her parents would have rather she be a son, someone who could carry the Black name forwards with them. Instead, they got her, and whilst she certainly grew up with luxuries many can only dream of, she always knew that the disappointment her parents had felt when she was born lingered just below the surface.
Determined to prove that she was just as good as, if not better than any son could have been, Bellatrix worked hard throughout her years at Hogwarts. Oh she wasn’t exactly innocent, but she learned how to get away with various misdemeanours either by not being caught or by being such an excellent student that certain professors would simply turn a blind eye. When her near-perfect OWL results arrived, she was sure that she could see the slightest hint of pride in her mother’s eyes. That was nothing compared to the approving smile her father gave her when the little Head Girl badge arrived; for the first time, Bellatrix didn’t feel as though he would have traded her away for a male heir.
Throughout her life, Bellatrix has never allowed herself to get distracted by love. That is, with the exception of the love she has for her two younger sisters. Andromeda and Narcissa always meant the world to her, and as a child she would always do her best to care for them and cover for their indiscretions when she could. They needed to learn of course, and so she did not always take the blame, but she took the brunt of it. Sparing them was worth the price she paid. The one thing she could not protect Andromeda from though was the torture she had to endure after attempting to run away with Ted Tonks. Hearing her sister’s cries pained Bellatrix, but she knew that trying to intervene would only result in making things worse.
That’s not to say Bellatrix agreed with Andromeda’s choice of lover. On the contrary, she despises mudbloods just as much as one would expect from the Black heiress. Such a man would never be worthy of the affections of any pureblood, let alone one of such nobility. She does love her sister though, and now she watches her carefully, hoping that she can keep her from straying from the path they are supposed to follow once again.
Somewhat ironically, Bellatrix does not always follow her own path as precisely as her parents would have hoped. She married a man they deemed suitable yes, but she does not intend to be a house wife. The idea of sitting at home, cooking and caring for children as she waits for her husband to return, is positively deplorable as far as she is concerned. Her ambitions lay far beyond that and, whilst others may scoff at the idea of a woman climbing her way through the ranks, she fully intends to show the world just what women are capable of.

Was that Katie McGrath? No, it’s just Bellatrix Lestrange - she graduated from Hogwarts from Slytherin and is 27 years old. She is known for being loyal (to a select few), self-assured & driven and volatile, cynical & manipulative, making them the perfect socialite. They would best be known as a storm gathering at sea, the serpent hiding beneath the innocent flower & the cold chill seeping into your blood on a winter's night and generally sides with pureblood royalty.
- Knows her parents desired a son as their firstborn and that they were disappointed with having a daughter, thus she’s determined to prove that she’s just as good as a son would have been, if not better
- Cares deeply for her sisters and has always done what she can to protect them. Given what happened with Andromeda, she is keeping a particularly close eye on her.
- Agreed to marry Rodolphus Lestrange, a good match for a well bred pureblood woman such as herself, but has no intention of being the stereotypical pureblood wife who just stays at home and produces heirs.
- Despite her defiant streak, she has always known the importance of society and so at galas etc she holds her tongue and plays her assigned role, at least for the most part. She has never been afraid to call out men on their sexist views, or make comments that prove women have brains too, though she is always clever in how she does so.
- Not above playing games to get what she wants; she knows that people have more respect for men than for women, but she’s learned how to use that to her advantage.
- Her anger is silent but deadly, served with ice cold looks that are second to none
- Was very involved in the war which definitely helped her prove herself, especially when she helped eliminate the Longbottom family.
