Rey glanced over as the young woman groaned in frustration. ‘’I wouldn’t say tech savvy but I can try for you.’’ She offered as she took the phone. ‘’So it won’t save this for you? What button do you press?’’ She asked taking a sip of her coffee.

Thankful that the stranger was willing to help her she smiled softly to her, “I think anyone compared to me would be considered tech savvy.” Bella mused before looking at the screen, “I was pressing the save button.” She spoke, “I thought that would save it to the phone but clearly that wasn’t working.”

Derek knew the smell of death, probably better than most people, something he had always chalked up to being a nurse, just one of those things you get used to, like the sight of blood or giving people bad news, though honestly, he couldn’t actually remember the first time the distinct scent of decay entered his nose…

Still, he was familiar with it, and there was something around here that made his nose burn, the scent of death- stifled and still- seeming to hang in the air, he felt his skin crawling just from the all too familiar scent… he was so distracted that he barely noticed he was being spoken to until he had a phone in his face

“Um…. sorry, but you’re asking the worst person imaginable, I don’t even have a cell phone myself,” he confessed, turning his jacket pockets out as if to prove his sincerity

“I… didn’t know phones could have documents on them…” he added a moment later, looking over her shoulder at the screen

Taken back by his response, Bella looked down towards her phone. “I wish I didn’t need one. I missed the days that we could survive with a computer and keyboard, Emails and what not.” She trailed off glancing down at his pockets. Truly surprised that he didn’t have a phone. “I have to say, I’m truly impressed. Phones are pretty useful though, I’d be lost without google maps.” She joked as she went back to looking down at her phone before she locked it causing the screen to go black. “I guess I don’t need it right now. I’ll have to redo it once I get home..” She sighed softly knowing she would spend the rest of the night rewriting the same thing over again.

sUsing technology still felt odd to Kaz sometimes - he chalked that up to having grown up on a farm for his formative years. He mostly stuck to burner phones - cracked smartphones with any kind of tracking information fully removed, the bare minimum of technology whenever possible. It was partly his business - you couldn’t bring in illegal products if you wanted to be properly on the grid or trackable. But that didn’t change how awkward it felt to see technology; as if it simply was not a part of his life. “I’m afraid I’d be far worse than you.” He said, but eyed the phone regardless - he didn’t know the woman, and if there was something he valued, it was gathering information about anyone he didn’t know. He carefully took the phone for her, grateful he’d sewn conductive thread onto his gloves, making it easier to use technology with them still on. “What is the document?” He asked, using the conversation to keep her distracted as he swiped up to return to the home screen and browse other parts of her cellular device.

Watching the phone move from her hands to his she sat back into her booth.  “Maybe two technology stumped minds can figure it out then.” Bella casually joked as she looked up at the stranger. “Oh it’s just some things I’ve been writing about my days. Almost like a journal..” she trailed off not wanting to embarrass herself even more than she already had.  “It’s okay if you can’t figure it out. I can always go home and write it all down. That’s just a lot more time consuming.” She added, knowing this guy in front of her wasn’t apart of the geek squad.

It took the device being pushed just under his nose for the man to realize his narrowed amber hues and thoughtful scowl were probably doing nothing to paint him as not a creep. Clearing his throat, he grabbed the phone and tried to focus on tapping away on the screen as the girl spoke, glancing over at her for a beat once she confirmed that no she wasn’t a student. “Mm,” Edward answered with a nod. “Graduate teaching assistant, English Lit, wasn’t sure if you were in one of my classes,” he squinted an eye closed as his head throbbed, his thumb swiping her screen before handing it back. “I cleared your cache; looks like you were just low on memory.” And apparently, so was he. “You look familiar was all I was getting at before.“

Watching as he worked on her phone she noticed his brows, this whole time almost always being bunched together. “I’ve always loved English lit, in high school that is.  Wouldn’t know on the college level.” Bella rambled before reaching back out for her device. “Oh, thank you. Wouldn’t have ever thought about clearing that out.” She gave a small smile back up to the striking beautiful man. “You look familiar to me as well. Do you come to this diner often?” She questioned hoping that they would run into each other again. “They have some pretty decent wifi in here.” Really? You’re going to talk to him about the diner wifi? she thought to herself trying not to mentally cringe away from herself. “I’m Bella by the way.”

Two jittery fingertips worked at smoothing out the growing crease between Edward’s brows as he slashed and stroked his red pen through the… twelfth? - he’d surely lost count - research paper of the day. At this point in his academic career, the works and themes of Shakespeare had been beaten into his skull so viciously that an unfounded resentment was building just as quickly as the migraine that was lodging itself behind his right eye. Goddamn, a cigarette and a nap sounded good to the man right about now. The small groans and eventual yelp from the table behind his made him wince, causing him to turn in his booth to nonverbally communicate his displeasure, but his vision snagged on porcelain skin and chestnut locks that felt oddly nostalgic, distracting him momentarily from his cause. “Am I…” he rasped, throat rough from misuse as his gaze travelled from her dark hues to the device in her hands. “It’s 2021, is being not tech savvy a thing?” He would have smirked had his own voice echoing in his head not coaxed a grimace, so he was sure he looked like a spastic moron, but he held his hand out anyway. “I can give it a shot,” he shrugged, his attention roving over her features, trying to place her face. “Do you go to ESU?”

Shock stunned Bella couldn’t take her eyes off of the mans face that had turned around to help her. His light brown curly hair and the eyes that nearly glistened in the poorly lit diner made the girl hold her breath. “I guess I can’t keep up with all this new technology. All I ever use that thing for is texting and calling. Hardly do that in the first place.” She babbled an excuse. With a slight tilt of her head she answered the other. “No, but I did think about applying there but didn’t know what I wanted to study. I’m guessing you attend?” She questioned as she watched him with her phone in his hands.

“Oh come on-“ Bella groaned to herself with her phone in her hands. It should be simple  to save a word document to her phone right? Again she went to the top left of her screen and pressed the save button, again an error popped up. “Oh for crying out loud!” She spoke louder and set her phone down at the table. Looking down at the tea she hard ordered knowing for a fact she wasn’t going to drink it. Just needed to have ordered something to be able to use the restaurants wifi. Turning her head she spoke to the first person she saw “I’m sorry but are you tech savvy at all? I can’t get this stupid phone to save a document that I need.” Holding up the phone that she wanted break in her fingers.

Not being able to go out into the sunlight, Bella had to plan her errands down to the very last minute to be able to get anything done. Her favorite jacket was ripped right in the shoulder due to a hunting accident and she wasn’t very good with a needle and thread. So she made her way down to the shop for a quick repair. Opening the store door she saw the girl walking towards the back, “Excuse me?” The brunette spoke as the female told her the time. With a brow raised she waited for the other to get back behind the counter. “I know it’s late and I don’t need it done today but.” She paused as she laid the torn jacket on the counter. “She’s hurt pretty bad.” Bella joked as she pointed out the very obvious damage. “Think you can save her?”

The day had been long already, and despite the sun beginning to set outside the shop window, Beverly was already aware she would be forced to remain well past sundown. With two garments to repair, and a cocktail dress to complete for one of her most loyal clients, she was nowhere near the end of her day. 

Sighing, Bev stood from her position at her desk, turning to make her way towards the back of the shop. Just as she disappeared into the back, she heard the bells above the door jingle, altering her to the arrival of a customer. Glancing at the watch on her right wrist, she rolled her eyes to herself. “It’s 7:45 PM, we’re-” Before the last portion of her objection could be stated, it occurred to her that in her haste and focus on the projects before her, she herself had forgotten to switch off the OPEN sign. Shaking her head, she turned, stepping back towards the front of the shop. “-Open. What is it I can do for you?”
