Protests against education budget cuts in Brazil

Yesterday (15/05) teacher and students here in Brazil protested about education fund cuts of 30 percent, it was a massive protest and yet our president just call us “useful idiots”. If someone wants to know more about just ask me and I’ll explain this huge mess. Wish us good luck to survive cause many federal universities may close doors in September because they don’t have enough money and here in Brazil, the federal universities are generally our most prestigious and competitive schools. University hospitals are also affected by the cuts. They said that “the priority is preschool, elementary school and technical school” but they cut funds to these areas too! They will make educations totally inaccessible for us. The education minister said that the humanities are not a priority for public investment!!! We will fight because without investment there is no knowledge.

ATMEH, Syria ( #Reuters ) - Families who fled #Syrian government and #Russian strikes in northwestern #Syria are sleeping in an olive grove near the Turkish border without enough food and no place else to go.

They are some of the 150,000 people who have escaped an upsurge in violence in the last major Syrian rebel stronghold in the last few weeks. It marks the most intense escalation between President Bashar al-Assad and his rebel enemies since last summer, with dozens killed in the shelling of insurgent territory. The miracle of shp files

Last month I stumbled upon some shapefiles of 2010 Aleppo. So at least I no longer have to draw the whole design on my own. Big win.

Still lacking the 2004 masterplan files other than 1000x1000px jpg’es though... I know it’s been published and people working on that Open City idea had an original file, but it’s not an open-source resource apparently. Or maybe you need to speak Arabic to find it.

Master of Science in field of Architecture series

Hello, world! First post series on the blog covers my rocky road to Master of Science degree. Thesis title is ‘Role of urban planning in moderating conflicts. Master plan for Aleppo, Syria’, so as you can see it won’t be much about architecture design, but more about urban planning.

The rough schedule of work goes like this:

1. ongoing research (mainly March)

2. the actual urban design (mainly April)

3. writing thesis and preparing exhibition boards (May)

4. exhibition, defending thesis & exam (June)
