Lakers vs. Bucks takeaways: LeBron James, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope have scorching shooting nights in L.A. win
The Lakers and Bucks may be the reigning No. 1 seeds in their respective conferences, but neither had managed to earn a marquee victory so far this season. Both had the chance to do so in a heavyweight clash on national television, and it was the defending champion Lakers that came out on top, 113-106, giving them their second consecutive victory against Milwaukee dating back to last season. บาคาร่าออนไลน์And just like last season's battle, LeBron James was the star of the show with 34 points, eight assists and six rebounds. He may have led the way, but Kentavious Caldwell-Pope did his share of the heavy lifting as well in hitting seven of 10 3-point attempts to boost the Lakers to the victory. The Bucks, meanwhile, came up flat from behindthe arc just as they did Monday in Brooklyn, making only nine of their 28 3's, and despite 67 points from their star trio of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday, their role players just couldn't pick up enough of the slack to carry the Bucks to victory. The Lakers have now reclaimed the Western Conference's No. 1 seed with a 12-4 record. The Bucks, now 9-6, fall to No. 3 in the East. With Brooklyncoming together and Boston and Philadelphia surging, Milwaukee will have to figure out these issues against top teams quickly if it wants to repeat atop the conference's regular-season standings.

Michelle Obama wows US presidential inauguration in head-to-toe plum and burgundy
Given her eight years at the White House, it was little surprise that Michelle Obama knew precisely how to dress for the occasion.Continuing her long tradition of championing emerging labels and young Black designers, the former first lady wowed at Wednesday's inauguration in a head-to-toe plum and burgundy ensemble by LA-based Sergio Hudson. ยิงปลาออนไลน์The outfit comprised a turtleneck sweater and wide-legged bootcut pants, with a structured coat helping her strike the balance between understated elegance and power dressing. She completed the look with a black face mask and one of Hudson's signature handmade leather belts, fastened with a circular brushed brass buckle. Hers was, of course, in a matching purple shade, though black and leopard print versions retail on the designer's website for $295 and $325 respectively. The outfit -- and Obama's wavy, voluminous hair -- generated significant buzz on social media as she arrived at the inauguration with husband and 44th president, Barack Obama. "I am LOSING IT over how good Michelle Obama looks!" tweeted writer and podcast host Tracy Clayton.Author Roxane Gay meanwhile wrote: "Hi. I'm Michelle Obama. Yes. Meet Ella Emhoff, the US presidential inauguration's breakout fashion star
Standing out next to established style iconslike Michelle Obamaand Lady Gaga was always going to be a tough gig. But on a day of block colors and monochromatic looks, Vice President Kamala Harris' stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, stole the fashion limelight at Wednesday's presidential inauguration. Her outfit --and her playfulon-camera eyebrow dance -- went instantly viral, leaving many excited about what the budding artist and design student might bring to the White House over the next four years.Much of the buzz centered around her plaid houndstooth jacket. With its cinched waist, crisp white collar and sparkling embellishments, the wool piece won plaudits from the moment Emhoff walked down the steps of the Capitol alongside her brother, Cole. "As an artsy teen, I feel the need to note how much Ella Emhoff's representation means to us," one widely-liked post read on Twitter.Writer and editor Evan Ross Katz meanwhile commented: "The shoulder embellishments on Ella Emhoff's coat? I smell a style icon in the making."Michelle Obama wows in head-to-toe plum and burgundyAlthough Twitter users initially speculated that Emhoff, a student at New York's prestigious Parsons School of Design, had created the calf-length garment herself, it was soon revealed to be the work of Italian label Miu Miu, a subsidiary of luxury giant Prada. With the help of celebrity stylists Jill Lincoln and Jordan Johnson, she completed the look with John Lennon-style circular glasses, a black face mask, leather gloves and a headband by Loeffler Randall. And while Emhoff's outerwear garnered the most attention, praise was also reserved for the moiré dress she wore underneath. Featuring a high neckline and puffed shoulders, the burgundy gown was designed by womenswear brand Batsheva, which prides itself on giving a "modern inflection" on traditional American styles and "elements symbolic of restraint and repression."

Jimmy Carter, unable to make inauguration, saluted by President Biden in remarks
ATLANTA — While Jimmy Carter could not attend Wednesday's inauguration, new President Joe Biden conjured the 39th president's presence in spirit.Carter and his wife Rosalynn did not travel to Washington for Biden's inauguration largely out of consideration for the pandemic. The pair, 96 and 93 years old, have not strayed far from their home in Plains, Ga. since COVID-19 upended life around the world. It was the first presidential inauguration without the Carters in attendance since his own in 1977. RELATED: WATCH LIVE: President Biden's first day in office includes Arlington Cemetery, virtual paradeBut President Biden made sure they were not forgotten, referencing a phone call he and Carter had on the eve before the inauguration."I thank my predecessors of both parties for their presence here. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. You know the resilience of our Constitution and the strength of our nation," the president said. "As does President Carter, who I spoke to last night but who cannot be with us today, but whom we salute for his lifetime of service." When it was announced earlier this month that the Carters could not attend, a Carter Center spokesperson said they sent their “best wishes” and “look forward to a successful administration.”   Carter became the longest-living president in March 2019, bypassing President George H.W. Bush who died the year before. Later that year he and Rosalynn Carter also became the longest married presidential couple ever.

Lady Gaga adds subtle change to the National AnthemLady
Lady Gaga brought her voice (and a large, poofy red skirt) to the inauguration of Joseph R. Biden. The ceremony was different than usual, as befits the changing of the guard in the middle of a pandemic, and the National Anthem was different too. While Lady Gaga didn’t indulge in the vocal gymnastics that tempt many interpreters of the anthem, she did offer one innovation, singing the song in a different time signature than usual. The old melody that Francis Scott Key borrowed is in 3/4, which is an unusual meter for an anthem. Gaga used an arrangement that adds an extra beat to every measure, turning it into a 4/4 rhapsody.I asked friends online whether they noticed, and some couldn’t tell the difference.ยิงปลาออนไลน์ To be scrupulously accurate, Gaga sang the first 16 bars in 4/4, the next four bars (“and the rockets red glare. . .”) in a deceptive 4/4 that pretended to be 3/4, the next four bars (“gave proof through the night. . .”) half in 3/4 and half in a rubato stop time, the next four bars (“oh say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave . . .”) in 3/4 and the last four bars in Eastern Standard Time. This is not the first time a new interpretation has heralded a new president. Beyonce used a similar arrangement at Barack Obama’s 2013 inauguration. (Whitney Houston also launched a stemwinding 4/4 version at the 1991 Super Bowl.)It’s not a small change, and unlike the overdone melisma that many singers apply to the song, it’s not unwelcome.Three-quarter time is for waltzes. Almost everything else we listen to is played in a meter that can be divided by two. That’s why our national anthem, an old drinking song that ends in a question, is an unusual piece of music.Unlike the Spanish,German, Russian and French national anthems, you can’t march to it. You pretty much have to stand still and sing. (Unless you feel like dancing.)

Teen who bonded with Biden over stutter recites passage from JFK inaugural address
A New Hampshire 13-year-old whospoke at the Democratic National Convention about his stutter recited a portion of John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address Wednesday night at President Biden’s inaugural celebration."In the long history ofthe world only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger, I do not shrink from that responsibility. I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us will exchange places with any other people or any other generation,” Brayden Harrington recited.ยิงปลาออนไลน์“The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bringto this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it. And the glow from that fire can truly light the world. And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what can you do for your country.” In August 2020, at a speech at the predominantly virtual DNC, Harrington described meeting Biden at a campaign event in Concord, N.H., that February and bonding with the then-candidate about their respective stutters.Harrington added that the former vice president had shown him his notes on his own prepared speeches and how he marked them to make them easier for him to deliver."He told me that we were members of the same club: We stutter. It was really amazingto hear that someone like me became vice president,” Harrington said.

Mike Pence announces he will return to live in Indiana
COLUMBUS, Ind. —Former Vice President Mike Pence concluded his four years in President Donald Trump’s administration with a farewell address in his hometown and a promise that he was moving back to the state this upcoming summer.“Back Home Again in Indiana” played over the speaker shortly before Pence walked up to the podium to speak to more than 60 supporters at the airport in Columbus, Ind. The podium was adorned with the words “Back home again," and a large American flag hung behind Pence."I've already promised Karen will be moving back to Indiana come this summer." Pence said, offering no details about where in Indiana they might land. "There's no place like home."Pence congratulated President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, before thanking Trump.“Let me also take a moment to thank PresidentTrump and Melania for all they’ve done to make America great,” said Pence as his two daughters, son and wife stood next to him. “I will always be grateful for the opportunity that they gave us to serve and the way they allowed us to make a difference in the life of this nation.”ยิงปลาออนไลน์Pence, who was more emotional than usual, then proceeded to thank his staff, his family and God during the 15 minute speech. At times he appeared to hold back tears, his voice cracking. He listed each one of his children by name and their accolades and said they are his biggest accomplishment in life.“While we don't know what the future holds," Pence said, "we know who holds the future. I'm absolutely confident that the best days, for this one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, are yet to come.”More than 60 family members, politicians and Columbus residents attended the farewell speech at the Columbus airport, including GOP Chair Kyle Hupfer, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and his brother, Congressman Greg Pence.Pence flew in immediately after attending President Joe Biden’s inauguration that morning. Harris and her husband escorted Pence and his wife, Karen Pence, as they departed the Capitol in a post inauguration tradition. They could be seen laughing together.Trump did not attend the inauguration, breaking a long-held U.S. custom.Pence was seen as a loyal No. 2 to Trump for most of their four-year tenure. Trump, though, was displeased after Pence refused to block the certification of electoral votes for Biden after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.Trump had harsh words for the vice president on Twitter, though the two reportedly spoke the next week at the White House.Pence did not watch Trump depart Washington on Wednesday.During Trump’s farewell speech that morning, Trump briefly thanked Pence for his service. “I want to thank our vice president, Mike Pence and Karen,” Trump said near the end of about 10 minutes of comments before he got on plane Wednesday morning to fly to Florida.Folks in Columbus had more to say.“Thank you for the honor that my brother has brought to the state of Indiana, to Columbus, to his name and his family's name,” Greg Pence said in a prayer. “Thank you for sending him to our country to our state, and now back to our home.”Likewise Hupfer said Hoosiers have "watched proudly" as Pence directed the nation's coronavirus response.Karen Pence held back tears as she talked about her husband, and at one point during her speech leaned in to kiss him. She told the crowd about the tradition for a special guest to sit in the jump seat in the cockpit as a guest. On this day, she said her husband sat there."This is the exact same plane that took us to Washington, and Mike wanted to sit in the jump seat," Karen Pence said. "He wanted to take it all in. He wanted to get that clear perspective. Landing here back home again in Indiana, in Columbus, Indiana, he got that perspective."
