the main talking point around the reboot being "the new ren and stimpy is bad because of woke" is quite frankly the only way this could all have ended i feel. it's poetic.

it is imperative that i post the clip of ren crying like a puppy as well. like so unfathomably important that i have this on my blog.

my honest opinion on the reboot is that it's not fantastic but this clip alone tells me the crew working on this LOVES these two little dudes and that really is all that matters to me.

obsessed with this poll. obsessed with these options.

objectively i think ren would do the least damage to society because he's a stupid failure who never is able to really attain a position of power. if he did have power he would blow up the planet so he would in fact do the most damage. but he will never be in a position where he Can, In Fact, blow the planet up, therefore the worst threat he poses is annoying people, and he usually gets smushed into a pulp as a result anyway.

brain is difficult because there's no distinction between og and reboot here. reboot brain would blow up a city with a space laser for no real reason. og brain would never do this. if we find the middle ground between these two things the threat level is moderate to high, but it's unclear how much of this would be damage done in pursuit of world conquest vs. once it has been attained, if ever. therefore this also hinges on if the latter is possible and the collatoral damage done in the process of reaching this goal.

max canonically starts wars for fun yet american society still seems relatively functional even with him as president of the US. him turning into cthulu and rampaging around nyc is a bigger problem than his war crimes. however in other s&m media he is not president and is therefore never seen as being so bloodthirsty on the global scale.

all this being said i voted to spare max. not because he would do the least damage or even because i like him the most but voting otherwise just feels wrong somehow. #maxsweep

the other night I dreamt of an episode where Ren wore a balaclava and became a robber but during a heist he accidentally saved a kid's life somehow and became known as a masked vigilante. he wanted to reveal his identity but was threatened by goons so kept it secret. meanwhile Stimpy saw the news and became obsessed with this mystery hero to Ren's initial delight. weeks went by and Ren became jealous of himself for stealing Stimpy's attention. this seemed like a good place to rant about it

LMFAO i love the fact that this plays out like an actual episode 😭 leave it to ren to accidentally concoct a whole anti-hero persona only to get jealous over himself

i'm reading don quixote for the first time (grossman translation) and the dynamic between quixote himself and sancho panza is so very ren and stimpy-esque... to be more precise it's the dynamic of "sidekick is by all accounts more in-tune with real-world logic, but sincerely believes in the promises of his arrogant and deluded leader". that's pretty much how i always read the relationship between stimpy and ren respectively.

to my understanding don quixote was never cited as a direct inspiration for the characters, and i don't *think* there was ever an episode spoofing it, but it's interesting how wide-ranging the cultural legacy is. because i don't doubt that it at least inspired the more direct inspirations of r&s.
