sparrowmooreâ:
the scores rolled across the screen , and sparrowâs palm slammed the controls in despair as they came merely a few shots below the high score . if it had been a game of real gunfire , with pistols instead of spaceship cannons , they would have had in in the bag â such shootouts were characteristics of their old life , a life they had long since left behind . â i wish it were me up there . i was so damn close . i bet they cheated to get up there , thereâs no way .. â always somebody elseâs fault . classic . â itâs rigged . 100% rigged . â but , despite their annoyance , they had managed to squeeze enjoyment out of a day that , otherwise , would have passed just as miserably as the previous and , most likely , the next .Â
So they hadnât been lucky today, neither one of them, but it really was only a matter of time before Ben saw his initials up there again. Spare an hour a day and heâd get there. Sure, it was perhaps a little bit obsessive, but there were worst things to obsess over â- that he had obsessed over. âProbably did, wouldnât shock me,â he responded, a dry chuckle escaping him. His expression became amused as Sparrow continued and he nodded then. âYeah, totally rigged, gotta be that.â

wesdavisâ:
one of his eyebrows quirked up as a crooked smirk spread over his face, a hum sounding in the back of his throat. âoh yeah? iâll keep that in mind - but if you ask me, a little bit of effort is never a bad thing. just means i want to impress you, right?â tongue darting out to wet his lips quickly, a dimple appears in wesâ cheek as he offers a more honest grin, his feet taking him a few steps backward towards the snack bar. âitâs amazing, trust me on that. totally worth the dirty looks.â with that he spins on his heel and heads towards the snack bar, ordering them an extra large slushie before heâs bringing it back over. âokay, now to see you win back that number one spot on your game, yeah?â
A bit of effort was never a bad thing, something Ben couldnât possibly argue with. Maybe it was a case of him not exactly being used to it in recent months, especially since the move to Roswell, maybe that was the sense of strangeness that hung in the air. Heâd been so incredibly focused on Caspian and everything that entailed, he hadnât thought about much else going on in his life. âNot going to complain about it,â he added with a slight tilt of his head, playful smile dancing about his features. A nod as Wes disappeared off to the snack bar, just pondering the whole thing, clearly amused by the interaction. When he found himself with company again, he flashed a smile, and then cracked his knuckles. âLetâs do it!â

olliefmsâ:
ollieâs gaze flashed in benâs direction, their own smile creeping at the corner of their lips before getting distracted once more. âi get that most people would prefer cash in hand to do whatever they want with, but i prefer to do things like this. thereâs bound to be someone thatâll stop and watch, or maybe even someone interested in joining a little theater troupe. iâve been thinking about that, yâknow? getting some people together just so weâre not sitting stagnant forever. itâs good to be well-practiced.â
Ben was still busy scoping out possible spots in the park where this impromptu show could happen as Ollie spoke, although he was listening to every word that they said â- never one to purposely ignore someone. âWell if we can get more people interested, thatâs always a bonus... I feel like itâs getting kind of sad how many people havenât joined just lately,â he said. âBut I guess itâs fall, weâre more likely to get people now. Fewer people vacationing, more people sticking around and looking for things to do.â

colorbop-archiveâ:
Itâs the day before his biweekly visit to his grandmaâs place. This week, sheâd suggested they cook keema and rice; Anton had insisted on picking up the ingredients himself, to save her the trouble.Â
Supermarkets, he finds, are liminal places. And far from such a concept at the same time. Which, in turn, he supposes nowâ taking the occasional half step forward as the checkout line progresses âwould make them all the more liminal. Itâs paradoxical at best.
Although Anton has little time to ponder any more, and he blinks out of his hazy bubble when the man in front pops it, tone needle-thin, words just as prickly.
Anton shrugs, âDepends, man. What kinda dayâs it sâposed to be?â
"Iâd go with anything other than one filled with bad luck...â Ben commented lightly, his shoulders lifting in a shrug. There wasnât really much else to say on that. âConvinced people are trying to rile me up today.â The person he was talking to, of course, had absolutely no idea what had already happened to him, but he still felt the need to vent... to somebody, to anybody that would listen to him.Â
âSomeone cutting in front of you once, it happens, but three times on a morning...?â He left the sentence hanging there for a moment. He still couldnât actually believe what had been happening today.

pandoravelascoâ:
âSomething about the repetitiveness of it all,â Even if that wasnât why Ben thought it was therapeutic, it was an easy enough point for him to agree with if he didnât want to get into it all.  âWell, I donât really have much going on at the moment either - I could be the cheer squad while you try to work your way back to your rightful spot.â
A nod and Benâs expression eased. Sheâd hit the nail on the head there of course. Heâd found that was the easiest way for him to relax these days; repetitive activities, throwing himself into a routine. âThatâs it,â he answered. When she volunteered to cheer him on, he chuckled and nodded. âIâm not gonna stop you,â he said simply.

marinera-stellaâ:
She and her movie references didnât always stick, not that she referenced one in particular â more of a plethora, but she had honestly been surprised it took months for them to run into each other. It went to show their differing lifestyles despite both being entertainers. âSharp eye.â Before now, sheâd seen only her belleâs features in Caspian while Benâs faded into the noises of her mind as years passed, but boy, could she see the resemblance now. Taking a moment to order herself a breakfast sandwich while she had the waitressâ attention, she idly drums her hands on the counter to a random beat after. âPeachy. â - Just the usual rotten excuse for a morning person, you know.â After a pause of her own, she passes the question back, trying to make small talk, though a little stiffly, ââŠand you?â
It was always strange to bump into someone like this who you hadnât seen in years, but then, their friendship had been formed through Noa and never really went beyond that. So the complete radio silence made a lot of sense when the other had basically cut him from her life. He still couldn't possibly blame her for that. Heâd have done the same had the roles been reversed. âThat is a mood,â he agreed, casting a glance back to the menu hung over the counter. âSimilar. Today anyway.â He could never once have classed himself as a morning person.

noafmsâ:
the snort that left noa was light and simple, fingers tucking a few strands of chocolate brown hair behind her ear. she missed when they were close, when she could tell him every little thing that happened to her without feeling intimidated in some fashion. but noa knew she deserved the cold shoulder around every turn, and if accepting that meant caspian got to know his dad, then so be it. âyou mean to tell me youâre a beast on the dance machine?â she teased, hoping to keep the conversation light. âiâve known you for a good portion of my life and i never knew this about you, benjamin scott. anticipate the day that i ask you to show me how good you are, alright? i need to see it for myself.â
Ben shrugged his shoulders once more, the smile that crossed his face as she spoke, amused. It was difficult not to be, made him miss the days theyâd shared during college, long, long before things became this complicated â- they were never supposed to become that way. âA beast is an understatement,â he answered her. âYou should know it, youâve seen me dancing on stage, you think I canât hold my own when it comes to a piece of machinery?â Brows lifted and laughter escaped.

once curiosity had struck , ben was in for it . questions niggling the back of his mind like a small child . who was out there , why were they out there , what did they want ?? the possibilities never ending . â what do you think aliens â or uh , other life forms are like then ?? just curious to hear your thoughts on it all . â
âSame as our planet I guess, lifeforms take lots of different shapes... plants, small organisms, that kinda thing.â Ben shrugged lightly, a slightly whimsical smile crossing his features. âI used to want to be an astronaut when I was kid, wanted to discover it all.â

aylinfmsâ:
aylin nods in reply, âitâll be better with the two of usâ she says, smiling back at him. they had no idea if this would acutally work but itâd be fun to find out anyway, âiâll do all the hardwork, pressing the attack buttons, you just walk aroundâ they suggest with a shrug of their shoulders.Â
Honestly, considering that Ben hadnât actually come up with anything to kick this person ass, it was a pretty good plan on the whole. âWorth a shot,â he answered with a laugh, the nod of his head pretty stern. âIâll go with that.â And with that, he pulled a quarter from his pocket. âYou ready or do you need fuel first?â he asked the question, poised ready to drop the coin into the machine.

tash-manian-devilâ:
âHelps,â Massoud commented, not impressed. He wondered what he was⊠probably just⊠enjoying the suffering of others more than their own. They watched the contents of the cup disappear with a grin, enjoying the moment that it was leading to. Wondering how long before the caffeine started to kick. They sipped from their own and kept watching. âIs this how you spend all your free time?â He asked. Emphasis on the all.
At the question, Ben tilted his head a little, the amusement written on his face. âWhy? Do I give that impression?â He probably did, to be honest, the way heâd been acting. But he was never truly serious about any of this stuff, it was merely a distraction for him from other things going on in his life. âI have been known to work every now and again as well. Spend way too much time running... walking my dog.â As well as everything else. âSo Iâll go with no.â

sparrowmooreâ:
â maybe youâve ignited my hidden competitive streak , â they teased , nudging benjamin sideways to allow themself pride of place in front of the machine . their fingers closed around the joystick , one eye squinted shut , as the little spaceship spun onto screen â shrill pew , pew , pews marked their trigger-happy nature as they pelted the 8-bit assailants with virtual bullets . regardless of who won that day , one of the two were bound to knock that snot-nosed little wretch off the top spot . that was what they were there for , right ?? the friendly competition was simply consolation , a free gift alongside an afternoon of forgetting every and all cares . god knows sparrow moore needed it .Â
"Well maybe. Never complain about seeing that in anyone.â Not strictly true, but if it made the day all the more interesting, Ben wasnât about to complain about it â- not even for a second. A laugh escaped him as he let them at the machine, stepping aside without question. He wasnât really all that bothered about who was top, although he did have a habit to create drama sometimes over the silliest of things, which had brought on the complaint today. As he watched Sparrow play, his arms folded casually across his chest. âYou sure thatâs not you at the top?â he mused with a chuckle.

to: open ( @roswellstartersâ ) location: randomly around townÂ
âall iâm saying is, space is fuckinâ insane! did you know that the universe has the same temperature everywhere? no, seriously!â soren had a way with getting excited over the smallest of things, especially if those things involved space facts. he loved to read up on random things like that, which is probably why his true crime tik tok account kicked off so easily. âbut if you think thatâs insane, you should hear the crazy, weird shit about the ocean. i wonât get into that because it kind of freaks me out just thinking about it, but itâs also crazy.â he was the kind of guy who fell in love three times a week and was also heartbroken all three times, so it shouldâve came to no surprise that he loved the world around him. sure he wanted to set fire to half the dumpsters he saw, but he didnât see anything wrong with a little harmless pyro fun. âanyway, are you going to join me at pizza planet or what? i told you iâd pay! how much more sweeter can a deal get?â
âDepends. Really depends. You gonna keep on about this shit the whole time?â There was a playful glint in Benâs eye as he spoke. He didnât really care all that much if Soren carried on, heâd wanted to be an astronaut when he was a kid after all, so space had always fascinated him â- peoples opinions about aliens, however, not so much, so perhaps a move to Roswell of all places hadnât been ideal. âBut you know I canât possibly say no to free pizza.â
