it can be so frustrating.
To wait for years for your ship to happen. To have a section of your own community actively hate one of your favourite characters, to call them an abuser, to hate the relationship you love with all of your heart, and to constantly claim the other character would be better off with literally anyone else.
And you wait, for the very final episode, the last chance for them to open their bruised, battered hearts to each other, to reveal themselves, to get that romantic final kiss. To get a promise of a forever, or even just a promise of a tomorrow, together.
And then. To instead get, "Can I come with you?" and then for the response to be, "I'd love that, but not yet."
To get, "I think I need you to be thoughtful about it. I think that's what I would ask, is take some time and be thoughtful... This is a thing I do not what you to jump into, even if it's just casual fucking around."
To get a possible vision of regular visits, and adventures together, but also time apart, time spent doing their own things, alone and with others. For it to be still undefined, still not sure if they are friends, or friends with benefits, or...
(That lingering or...)
It can be frustrating, not to get the romantic ending. The shiny, golden ending you can hold up and show to others, and say, "See? It was a long hard road, but they are happy and in love and together."
The ending you can hold close to your chest, while you grieve the fact that it's over, to give yourself comfort, knowing that they are happy, together, loved.
But instead, my friends, instead. We got endless possibilities.
Which only makes sense, for an apprentice fatestitcher, and a person held together by potential and probability.

SPOILERS FOR C3 FINALE!!
I feel like people may be misinterpreting Ashtons ending, or at least I had a different interpretation to other peoples I've seen. I saw it as Ashton living out the rest of their days, however long they live adventuring, visiting Fearne on occasion, doing missions and jobs for whoever they see fit, and never making the choice to retire. Imagine Ashton having an life similar to Bertrand or Chetney. Even though he maybe a bit too old to be going on adventures anymore, he'll still keep going until his body gives out and that's what was meant by 'and one day he never comes back' they'll only ever stop adventuring when they die. Which I think is really fitting for a character like Ashton, they're a ball of stubbornness with an uncertain future and an uncertain end.
I like the ending at least, and honestly it gives the vibe of a new beginning, campaign 3 kind of feels like Ashtons backstory for him becoming a legendary character in Exandria's future lol, maybe being another groups chetney or bertrand one day

Simple model of F.C.G. (in his second 'outfit').
I started working on it about a week before that fateful episode aired and got disheartened afterwards. Got inspired by a colleague to pick it back up.
BONUS:
Crispy gif of armature wiggle.

c3 haters boggle my mind because how did you lose your mind over bells hells engaging with predathos and complain about how they should’ve left it be and then get mad at the fact that it worked out and they had a happy ending

FRIDA saying “you made me” and Chet saying “that’s so strange, I swore I would never make anything out of metal” was INCREDIBLE.

I forgot to mention it while watching the episode, but the wooden jellyfish engagement gift from Chetney was SO sweet, a genuinely touching a full circle moment for Fjord and Jester's relationship.
I also liked the ensuing conversation, prompted by Fjord, to discuss some ideas for the wedding and to express his excitement about it. It creates a really nice bookend on Fjord and Jester's time in this campaign. It was always clear that Fjord was confident about his engagement and genuinely excited about the wedding, as discussed briefly with Jester as they settled down for bed in the Tower. But, it was very true that he carried himself with an air of anxiety whenever it was brought up due to just being constantly nervous over Living In Interesting Times, so it suffused all of his conversations due to how silly it felt to be discussing wedding details while you were on mission as a clandestine strike team (!) to kill a group of heads of government (!!) on the moon (!!!) to stop a godeater from killing the entire pantheon (!!!!). Fjord and Jester having the opportunity to talk about the wedding — and get incredibly competitive about some details — felt like a nice button on that, since it was already present in this campaign, to give them both the time to talk about something they're both so excited for without the pressures and anxieties of cataclysm bearing down on them that were very much affecting him more overtly. It felt like a good moment both for him to express unmitigated excitement and for her to feel reassured once again.
It was a short moment, but very sweet.

Thinking about how now that the gods are descended, the souls of Exandria will once again join the cycle of rebirth
Thinking about Imogen and Laudna passing on after a peaceful life in their cottage to be reborn as someone else, something else. Only for their tethered strings of fate to pull them together once again.
I’ll find you in every life, no matter what it takes

sorry for not shutting up about this (i never will) but the thing that GETS ME about ludinus's part in the epilogue is beau and caleb found him. caleb who was tortured by ludinus's inner circle, a man who said to his face he knew what trent was doing and it was for a greater purpose, who groomed essek into war, who hurt & manipulated his country and the dynasty. beau who said she realized the reason that she & yasha didnt have kids was in large part because the world felt unsafe with ludinus in it. and both have spent the past years of their lives hunting him down.
and caleb looked to beau, wondering if they should truly end ludinus, seeing him exposed.... and beau, justice seeking beau, beau who felt her life couldnt begin with that elf in it.... she was the one who let up. she saw ludinus alive and it was that moment she told caleb, no. no, let's live. i want to have kids. i want us to Be. and caleb agreed.
that speaks volumes about this new age of redemption. of how beau & caleb understand they are part of a second chance as much as their enemy is. they have seen essek, & artagan, & the gods change. they both felt they were irredeemable shits themselves until the m9 helped them find their better selves. so.... why not ludinus, too. keep him in the periphery. dont get lazy watching the martinet. but if he has made steps they never expected, into a small cottage after a life in towers & ruins.... in this new age, everyone is so tired of bloodshed. they are. maybe he is too. they see themself in him in that moment, but for once not in how they could be worse. rather, how they could finally try to heal.
