I'm Nanu (She/They, 24) I'm a marine biology student currently working on my thesis (on pollution and invertebrate stress levels in artificial reefs, if you even care c':).

I'm particularly interested in black & indigenous voices in STEM and the decolonization of environmental sciences (integrating and centering traditional indigenous knowledge). Some of my favorite books on the topic so far are Becoming Kin by Patty Krawec and Our Knowledge Is Not Primitive by Wendy Makoons Geniusz, and I'm currently reading The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer!

listen to me, really. I am holding your two hands tenderly in mine. being part of a privileged group and benefitting from systemic exploitation without meaning to is not the same thing as being an inherently trash person who makes the world worse by living it in. that's not what that means. I'm telling you this for two reasons, 1) so you can chill the fuck out and be at peace with yourself without feeling like you're draining the universe of value, and 2) so you don't go onto oppressed people's posts about systemic privilege and exploitation and react like they've just told you that you, personally, should not exist because you're a man who lives within the vicinity of a supermarket that sells chiquita bananas. you're just gonna have to put some trust into your own brain and hold on to both the ideas that you're on one of the dominant sides of a set of global scales of injustice and that you don't have to shrivel out of existence about it. it can be difficult to reconcile those ideas at first, but it's completely possible and worth doing. if you don't, then you start constructing a worldview where you believe that either you have a civic duty to self destruct or you start vehemently denying that these systems of oppression exist, both of which are Bad and Not Good. peace and love x

Funky moment but I love the way I love.

Not necessarily just romantic love, but including them.

Like, I don't live in a walkable place anymore, but I love how often I'd walk with my friends when I did. I did the good ol' "turn around and start walking to wherever they be going" (I had no intended destination I was just strolling).

I like the way I check to make sure people are OK and how I manage social interactions. I really struggle in large groups but I'm getting there.

I like the way I compromise, and look at things from other people's point of view, and see the best in them (and often, in myself).

I love the way I exist, and who I am. How I love is a very important part of that.

Darcy’s introduction in Pride and Prejudice is really ‘what if you had just had the worst month of your life because your ex-bestie tried to lover boy scam your baby sister out of her share of your dad’s life insurance and your friend dragged you to a shitty party in a dive bar in the neighbourhood where he’d just signed a short term lease, and you decided to let your bad mood show because you were never going to see any of the assholes in this stupid shitty bar EVER again. And your friend ended up making out with a girl he’d just met there while you were stuck talking to her sister who was less cute and then her mother appeared and started trying to matchmake and started saying how if she was twenty years younger she’d clime you like a redwood and ooooh is that a black Amex, guess the next round is on you hahhahahahaha, while her other sister (how many fucking sisters does she have?!) flashed an obviously fake ID at the bar and ordered six vodka-diet red bulls and no one in her family except the less-cute sister even tried to stop her. And you went home and consoled yourself that you would never see any of these people again but then you met them over and over again because they live next door and your friend and the cute sister keep meeting up to make out but not actually date and then. You fall in love with the less-cute sister because it turns out she’s really witty and charismatic but she already knows and remembers and resents the fact that on a day when you were in a shitty mood you called her mid out loud in a dive bar.’

also. this is gross. but i'm quitting smoking and what no one tells you is that for awhile, i saw some ppl online saying up to a year even, that means you're just hacking up like mucus encased tar. cuz apparently there's these hair like things called cilia in your lungs that slowly move stuff upward so you're able to cough it out, and smoking like. 24/7 365 for the past 5 years had my cilia all fucked up, so now it's finally coming back online and being like holy shit you need this out of here NOW.

anyways don't smoke kids. smoking weed is still smoking and your lungs hate it. fuck vaping too. just eat a gummy or make your flower into a delightful little tea this shit sucks so bad yall
