Roll the tape: Choices, made
Devi finally choosing Ben for good in the season 3 finale , and Ben finally choosing Devi in the season 4 finale.
Contrary to what some people might say, Devi made her final choice in season 3, not four. And the entire season four, as far the romantic subplot is concerned, is all about getting Ben to that finish line.

Never Have I Ever Wrecked my Future (4x04): Want
Much has been said about how Ben went full awooga here, but note that the exact same thing happened with Devi. Yep, she wanted Ben right then and there, too. So much so that the first thing Devi did right after was to make out with whatshisface (Ethflop) before dumping that petty criminal’s sorry ass.

It’s the little moments: (5) he is trying to feel seen
“Wow… this is why Ben acts the way he does. It’s because he has such a horrible upbringing where his parents have made him feel invisible, and unwanted, and unvalidated. And he’s looking for that validation [by being loud and brash]” — Jaren Lewison
“A lot of times, when he’s loud, and brash, and name drops, it’s because he’s trying to feel seen… but he doesn’t quite know how to do that”
To be honest, the pilot episode was not one of my favorites. While the story was pretty good, IMO the acting performances kind of lagged behind all across the board (with no exception) compared to the generally high standards that we would become accustomed to in the later episodes. That said, I wanted to highlight this nice little bit of direction here to illustrate that right from the beginning, you could already see some of those character traits of Ben that would only be explained later on in the season.
