Mystery Case Files Rant

Incidentally, if anyone was wondering about that little tirade…

The latest Mystery Case Files game came out. In fact, two back to back releases inexplicably dropped into our laps. Both are related, and both are sequels to the Ravenhearst storyline.

Perhaps unironically, they also seem to both suck. Mystery Case Files used to be Big Fish Games’ flagship title and one they made themselves. The last few years have seen them hot-potatoing it from dev to dev with mixed results.

A couple yeas back we had Fate’s Carnival, which I greatly enjoyed because it let me do something I’ve been wanting to do since I first got into the series several years ago; actively wreck the shit out of Madame Fate, the fourth MCF game which had an extremely depressing tone and ending.

Sorry, getting carried away.

Anyways, Ravenhearst, it’s the “hot title” of the MCF series and there’s now 5 games that carry it counting these new ones. Whatever else one may say about Escape From Ravenhearst, at least it had a positive ending.

A good way to keep Dalimars from bothering you is to get them to turn on each other.

@the-best-part-of-waking-up and I were talking about Mystery Case Files villains

I think the true reason behind all of the character distorting incontinuity was the writers wanted more Dalimars without having to make new characters.  

For my own sake on mind I imagine that these red haired twins are from a different reality/dimension than where the story is taking place. I rationalize that if there can be time travel and other worldly magic why not an alternate world where roles are reversed? Alister could have found this version of the twins who are ruthless red haired capable young women and not blond children that would have no motive to do anything to help him, or hinder master detective.

So that’s my explanation. Alister used his magic to pull an evil adult version of the twins, who are daughters of Charles in their reality, into his world to help him gain immortality or restore his family whatever he was after.

I had to make up a ridiculous convoluted theory to justify the changes in this new game but I don’t think there is a better way to justify them.

Can I say I am just downright rejecting the new MCF game?

Master Detective is back in action!

I’m SOOOO excited! There’s a 4th Ravenhearst game! AAAAAH! When did this happen? Anyone else play Mystery Case File games?

I should replay the other Ravenhearst games it’s been ages.

Master Detective from Mystery Case Files series (since she didn’t make any physical appearance in games, I just draw her from my imagination). I like the snowy/frozen landscapes on Dire Grove, but for the (door) puzzles and story, my favorite is still the Ravenhearst’s one. Classic game.
