actually i think if we’re going to be assigning girlboss/malewife positions to jeeves characters then it’s gotta be girlboss stiffy byng and malewife harold pinker

can’t stop thinking about this double sir… it’s not as neat and orderly as Jeeves’s dialogue usually is. there’s actually a lurching, breathless quality to the construction – I’m sure that Jeeves says this with his usual calm gravitas but it isn’t really calm. I don’t think that Jeeves intended to leave Bertie’s service permanently – it’s patently obvious that Bertie isn’t going to live the rest of his life playing the banjolele in a cottage in the middle of nowhere – but even if he always intended to come back, it’s a risk. it was a risk and it’s not one he’s prepared to take again; he never comes close to it after this.
