My favorite part about any Jeeves book is the fact Bertie can’t stop himself from mentioning Jeeves at any given time. Jeeves will be deeply irrelevant in a conversation or situation but Bertie is incapable of not thinking about him

god i cannot believe raffles only uses the phrase “my dear rabbit” TWICE in the entirety of the raffles canon (including the plays) but my idiot gay brain somehow finished the books and was like ok yeah so that was about once a page i think

can’t stop thinking about this double sir… it’s not as neat and orderly as Jeeves’s dialogue usually is. there’s actually a lurching, breathless quality to the construction – I’m sure that Jeeves says this with his usual calm gravitas but it isn’t really calm. I don’t think that Jeeves intended to leave Bertie’s service permanently – it’s patently obvious that Bertie isn’t going to live the rest of his life playing the banjolele in a cottage in the middle of nowhere – but even if he always intended to come back, it’s a risk. it was a risk and it’s not one he’s prepared to take again; he never comes close to it after this.

raffles stories ranked by the number of times raffles calls bunny “rabbit”
no sinecure (thrice):
“you rabbit!” said he. “why couldn’t you wait till we got home?”
"of course, in the first place, i spotted you at once by these prison articles; they were not signed, but the fist was the fist of my sitting rabbit!”
"he did not inform me that i was hopeless as ever. he did not address me as his good rabbit."
the knees of gods (twice):
“you rabbit,” he cried, “even to think of it!"
"here’s a light; and so bunny takes the sullivan! all honor to the sporting rabbit!”"
an old flame (twice):
"there’s some money here, my rabbit!"
“no, my dear rabbit, what you’ve got to do is to make a new burrow for us both."
the gift of the emperor (once):
“the fact is, bunny, i didn’t mean you to know. you—you’ve grown such a pious rabbit in your old age!”
a jubilee present (once):
“nothing easier, my dear rabbit.”
out of paradise (once):
“you little rabbit!”
the criminologists club (once):
“of course I do, you rabbit!"
the field of phillipi (once):
"what a rabbit you are at a quotation!"
#raffles#raffles and bunny#perhaps the single most inconsequential thing i've ever spent good time on#anyway no sinecure continues to reign supreme in EVERY respect
