Can I request single parent!reader + single parent!timothée
They both get roped into attending their children's winter musical at pre-school/elementary school. Their kids are best friends, almost siblings at their closeness. Then the kids ask if they can spend Christmas together and Tim being a push over when it comes to his kid, says yes.
Christmas Plays and Kissing
Info - poor reader, single dad and mom, reader with anxiety, getting custody, meet cute, mistletoe
I think I was more nervous than Gemma was for her part in the winter musical. She was to be the snow queen, the one who curses a little boy by getting a bit of glass in his eye.
She’d gone over her lines with me for weeks. I wasn’t concerned because I thought she’d do badly. I was worried because I knew she was putting so much pressure on herself. She knew my acting past and wanted to be just like me when she grew up. I was honoured to say the least, but I didn’t want her beating herself up if she missed a line.
“Papa you'll finally get to see my dress!” She said mischievously. She hadn’t brought her costume home, and had made every teacher swear not to send me pictures of it. The way she described it you’d have thought it was a brand name. She wanted me to see it first in all its glory on stage.
“Yes, and I can’t wait,” I said enthusiastically.
Just then an adorable little boy ran up to us. He had sweet furrowed eye brows of worry. He bit his lip in a nervous action.
“Gemma I don’t know if I can do this,” he whimpered.
“Nonsense Paul,” she said to the boy. She put her hands on his shoulders like an all knowledgable agent and I almost laughed.
“This is the beginning of your career, you’ve got to do this. You want to be an actor don’t you?” She demanded of him. He nodded solemnly.
“Good, then we’re going to go up there and make our parents proud,” she said sternly.
“Yes Gemma,” he said submissively.
“Now get back there,” she said. Paul ram off behind the curtain.
“That was quite the pep talk little lady,” I said, swinging her into my arms before she ran off too.
“You gotta be tough in show biz,” she said. I couldn’t stop my deep belly laughs at her serious nature.
“Hey, theres’s Paul’s mom, you should sit with her,” Gemma said. She wriggled down and ran to the back of the stage.
I turned and saw a gorgeous woman. She was pushing stray strands of hair back into her bun. She was fumbling with her purse, the strap had come loose. I ran forward without thinking.
“Here let me help,” I offered immediately. I picked it up and held it while she stuffed her things back in.
“Thank you so much,” she said as she stood up straight, and looked at me. Her mouth fell open in realisation.
“Gemma’s dad!” She said excitedly.
“Uh, yeah, how did you know?” I asked.
“You’re twins, plus, Paul talks about Gemma and her amazing Dad all the time,” she explained with a blush.
“Well, Gemma said we should sit next to one another for the play,” I said. She looked so shy and sheepish that I almost took it back.
“Okay, sounds nice,” she said in a small voice.
The play started and it turned out Paul was the little boy who was ensorcelled by my daughter. Now that the lights were down, y/n, who had told me her name earlier, was much more talkative. She was excitedly exclaiming in whispers. She talked with her hands. I found myself trying to catch glimpses of her in the shadows as much as I watched the play.
When it all ended Gemma ran to me. I kissed all over her face and squeezed her tight.
“You did amazing baby girl!” I said excitedly. She didn’t look happy though. I frowned at her. She leaned forward and began to whisper.
“Paul said he and his mommy will be in a hotel for Christmas. He asked if I could ask if he could come to our house,” she said softly. My heart melted completely. My empathetic little girl.
“Should we ask?” I asked.
“Yes,” she nodded avidly.
I approached Y/n and Paul with my daughter in my arms. Y/n was smiling with such sweet fondness it nearly brought me to tears. She was clearly so, so proud of her child.
“Hi, I have an odd question,” I said smoothly. I was secretly nervous, but I tried to talk calmly.
“Oh, okay,” y/n said and fiddled with her hair.
“Me and Gemma will be alone this Christmas. Y/n’s mom is out of the country. I was wondering if you and Paul would like to join us. We have plenty of food and decorations for everyone.”
“Oh my,” Y/n lifted a shaky hand to her mouth. She really was crying now. Paul didn’t seem to notice as he pulled on her coat and pleaded with her to say yes.
“I-I, I don’t know,” Y/n said breathlessly. Just then there was an uproar.
“They want an encore!” Gemma squealed. Gemma and Paul ran off together to go and now again.
“Timothée,” y/n caught my arm before I turned.
“Yes?” I asked. She really was so gorgeous. She looked like she was anxious, uncertain, and not confident at all.
“I know Paul asked you for that,” she blurted.
“Well I-“
“I know how jealous Paul is of Gemma and perfect daddy. I never imagined he’d be so bold to ask you to stay for Christmas. I’m so sorry.”
“Oh, y/n, it’s okay,” I said slowly. She was still fidgeting and crying.
“I’m sorry, you’re a bit of a celebrity to me. Whenever I would see Paul, all he talked about was Gemma and her daddy,” she continued. I almost smirked, wondering if the children were playing parent trap. However, I latched on to one part of her explanation.
“When you would see him?” I asked.
“I-I haven’t always made the best decisions,” she stuttered. “Nothing ever hurt Paul or anything, but I didn’t have much money. He was in the custody of my mom for a long time. I just got custody back. I, well, I don’t have a permanent place to stay yet. He doesn’t think a hotel is homey enough. We can’t go to my parents house because when I got custody they sold it and moved to a care facility. We’re pretty alone right now. I know I can’t give him all he wants but I don’t want to pressure you. I just want the first Christmas he can remember with me to be good.”
She couldn’t talk over the tears now. She was sniffling and trying to stay calm but she clearly was scared and worn out. I didn’t say anything, but gathered her into my arms. She stiffened at first, but then melted into me. She was a bit shaky, and I wondered how long it had been since someone had, had the decency to hug her.
“If you’ll let me, I’ll help you make Paul’s Christmas magical. I wasn’t lying, we have too much in the house. We could do with some company and some extra mouths,” I whispered as I rubbed her back.
“You really mean it?” She asked with trembling lips.
“I do,” I promised.
“Oh look!” Cried a cheery teacher. “I think there’s mistletoe above your heads.”
We both looked up and saw a child had crudely coloured the berries and leaves. It hung on a transparent string.
For the first time, y/n didn’t look sad or nervous. Y/n looked excited. She bit her lip and her eyes seemed to say “I’m game if you are.”
I leaned in softly and pressed a kissed to her plump lips. She shuddered and deepened it. She was so warm and sweet I didn’t know how I’d ever pull away. She held me like I was a life raft and she was out sea.
“We may need to start up a tradition,” I mumbled. “Christmas shows and kissing.”
She giggled affectionately. She stole a quick kiss before our kids came running back. I think this would be the start of something beautiful.
