I stood there my feet on the very ledge of the building.

The wind blowing through my brunette hair.

One step forward and it would be the end of it all.

I open eyes, all the buildings around me bright and beautiful.

I've always told Jack that the last thing I wanna see before I die is the bright beautiful lights of the city.

The other day, I asked Jack if his love for me was endless and forever.

He hesitated to say yes and that's when I knew he didn't really love me.

He just felt bad for me, he didn't see me as more than a friend.

But he knows that if he would have said no I would have ended it all.

Jokes on him, I know he didn't mean a single word that slipped from his mouth yesterday.

Soon after that he left me, I haven't seen him since our conversation.

The door to the roof access slammed open

Causing me to jump a little bit, I turn around.

There he was.

His chest heaved up and down as he was trying to catch his breath.

"Don't do it Zach, please for the love of god don't do it." He begged.

"This has to happen Jack, hurry up and say what you need to right now."

"Because more sooner than later I won't be standing here."

"You won't be able to hug or call me."

"I'll be gone."

"No Zach, stop. You can't leave me, I won't let you!" Jack chokes out holding back tears.

"You did this, Jack. This is all you fucking fault."

"If you would have just told the truth I wouldn't be standing here right now!"

"I have never lied to you Z, I don't understand how this is my fault. All I have ever done is loved you, I've always been there for you. No matter what."

"See that's where wrong, Jack. You may have always been there for me and you may have always loved me. But I know you only love and care for me as a friend. I'm not stupid J. Yesterday when I asked you if you would love me forever, you hesitated to say yes. I know you wanted to say no, I could feel it. You only said yes because you knew if you said no then this right here would happen. But now it's even worse because my best friend of 10 years lied straight to my face. My lover lied straight to my face. So yes this is your fault."

“I’m cold.” You muttered, slumping back into your chair.

It was steaming outside, a whole 90 degrees Fahrenheit in fact. Inside, however, the air conditioning was blasting like there’s no tomorrow, especially in the library. Daniel, who sat across from you, chose a table directly under the air vent, much to your demise.

You heave out a small sigh, rubbing your goosebump-ridden arms. The small tee you picked out this morning was looking more and more like a bad decision.

“Here.” Daniel peeled off his hoodie and handed it to you.

“But won’t you be cold?” You asked, hesitant.

He shook his head. “I’m sweating, to be honest. Take it.”

You slipped into the oversized piece of clothing and smiled. “Thank you.”

“Of course.” He returned your smile with a flirty grin. “It looks good on you.”

You walked into the busy cafeteria, a smile on your face and soft music playing in your earbuds. You went to your usual spot in the back and sat down next to Daniel, as you did everyday.

He lightly tugged one of your earbuds out of your ear by its cord as you slipped off your bag and put it by your feet.

“Hey, nice sweatshirt.” He said jokingly.

“Thanks, it’s made of boyfriend material.”
