Hey, so, I don't know how many of you follow Canadian news, but yesterday, someone drove a car into the crowd at a Filipino cultural festival in Vancouver. I'm sorry that I can't put that more sensitively, but I really don't know how else to describe it. I'm not Filipino, but it happened in the neighborhood I grew up in. I'm not sure how to describe how I feel. I'd walked past the event an hour before with some friends. We'd joked about how the first nice weekend in Vancouver is a special occasion because everyone comes out. There's a vigil on that corner tonight.

The point of this isn't to talk about how I feel. A friend has shared some gofundmes with me and I wanted to post them here. And ask that maybe if you're local and you're able to, could you donate blood? I don't know. I don't have anything I can say. It's not my tragedy but I feel it anyway. We need to talk about tumblr's systematic fatphobia.

Posts of fat people are being marked as "sexual content" even more frequently than they used to, but now we have this fun little addition as brought to my attention by a friend;

That's right. Not just blatant kink-shaming, but now, if you make posts about or with fat people, you can now be flagged as "promoting disordered eating"! Multiple completely innocent posts of fat people literally just existing in their own bodies have already been flagged this way.

Raise hell about it. Reblog and share fat content more than ever. Don't let this shitty website tell you that your bodies are "wrong" or that you aren't allowed to exist publicly.

Tumblr staff, if you care about eating disorders (you fucking don't), stop promoting this sense of shame and fear and disgust towards the idea of weight gain. Stop shaming and censoring people for posting about their own bodies and experiences. Fatphobia kills. Fatphobia causes disordered eating. Fatphobia is the disease you should be worried about.

This has also been disproportionately affecting fat trans people, because of course it has.

With a 53-47 majority, Senate Republicans would need Democratic support to overcome the 60-vote threshold to advance the bill to a final vote and ultimately send it to Trump to sign into law.

Ending debate and bringing a bill to a vote is called "cloture." This takes 60 votes in the Senate. Once the bill is brought to a vote, it only takes a simple majority to pass, which Republicans have. So refusing to bring the bill to a vote is our best shot.

If you live in the U.S, your state has two senators. Regardless of your legal status, they represent you. Tell your senators to vote NO on cloture and NO on the SAVE Act. Even if they plan to vote no on the bill itself, a vote for cloture throws us under the bus and lets the SAVE Act pass.
