If you're a photographer like me living in Los Angeles, on a tight budget, renting a photo studio would likely break the bank. But if you want to impress clients and look like a pro, a photography studio is a must. I came to L.A. 5 years ago to pursue a photographer's dream. Since then, I've come across numerous studios throughout L.A. To help other photographers new to the game or to Los Angeles, I've come up with a helpful list of the best photo studio rentals in the Los Angeles area. My list is based on overall affordability, accessibility, customer service, cleanliness, professionalism, and amenities. I've discounted all of the other 'bigger' studios out there that are completely out of the budget. These are the best, most affordable photo studios in Los Angeles.

1. REDLAB STUDIOS
Redlab Studios is handsdown my #1 choice for a photography studio rental in Los Angeles. This lovely studio is located in North Hollywood, just a few miles north of Downtown LA. Where do I start? Redlab Studios is super clean and very consistent. I have never been disappointed, even the slightest bit. Rental rates start at $30 per hour, and that comes with the entire studios including lights and backdrops. All you will literally need is your camera and model. They recently started charging for the white backdrop, but it seems like every studio does that now. Redlab’s customer service is top notch and again very consistent. They always make me feel very welcomed there and they are so helpful and knowledgeable with their equipment. Whenever I bring my clients here, they are always so impressed by how professional Redlab Studios looks, which makes me look like a pro! They layout of the studio perfectly flows. There is a different room for makeup, dressing room, two restrooms, a couple of lounges, and of course the actual studio itself. This studio is on the ground floor with tons of FREE parking, so you’ll never have to worry about it! I always feel very safe and secure here. My clients and I will always have the as much privacy as we need, but the guys at Redlab is always at the front if I need any assistance whatsoever. I just wished that they had more than one studio, because they do get booked up quickly. So I suggest you book in advance!

2. APEX PHOTO STUDIOS
Apex’s rates start at $50 per hour, but the great thing about them is that they have multiple studios (different rates) available to rent. I love the natural light setting and the views of Downtown Los Angeles. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. The studio that I rented came with a white cyclorama. It is very clean, modern and yet urban, which made is very cool. Apex may not be the cheapest in DTLA, but it’s worth it if you have a little more in the wallet to spare. Things to keep in mind – the studio is in Downtown LA, so parking can be a challenge and not free. They have great equipment and gear, but you would have to rent them separate from the studio rental. Shooting in DTLA can make you feel uneasy sometimes, especially when finding parking and walking to the studio, so I would recommend booking during the day. You’ll also have to take an elevator to get to them, so if you have alot of equipment or props to bring up, this could be cumbersome, but again, their staff is super helpful.
APEX STUDIO RATINGS:

3. CONCRETE STUDIOS
Concrete Studios has four different affordable studios available to rent, including a rooftop. Their rates are affordable, starting at $45 per hour, and the longer you to the cheaper it gets. With that, you will get lights, grip, basic backdrops (white, black, and gray). Their studios also have available natural light. The staff is very helpful and accommodating and their studios are clean throughout. It’s a pretty simple layout, but it will get the job done. Parking can be a little tough, just like any studios in Downtown, but if you’re willing to put up with it, then the studio makes up for it.
CONCRETE STUDIOS RATINGS:

4. LAC STUDIOS
Just like Apex, LAC Studios is located in DTLA on the same street as a matter of fact. The thing with studios located in DTLA, you’re often faced with lots of traffic, hard-to-find parking that’s not free, and a studio located in a building where you need to take a small freight elevator to get up there. But if that doesn’t phase you at all, then LAC is the studio for you. I love that this place is super affordable. It starts at $34.99 per hour but only goes down from there depending on the amount of hours. The rental of the studio also comes with a basic lighting package, which is plenty for a small shoot. You can also rent other equipment from them if you need more for an additional fee. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They have 2 studios to rent from plus a rooftop.
LAC STUDIO RATINGS:
Affordability and Value = 8/10
Accessibility and Parking = 6/10
Customer Service = 9/10

5. DYSTOPIAN STUDIOS
This is a very unique studio in that they provide a ton of different background options and props, probably more than any studio at this price point. The rental is very affordable, however it is not all-inclusive. Be aware of additional surcharges that can boost your cost up. The crew is accommodating. They have 2 studios available and are on the first floor which is a plus.
DYSTOPIAN STUDIOS RATINGS:
Affordability and Value = 9/10
Accessibility and Parking = 6/10
Customer Service = 7/10
Cleanliness = 7/10

6. FD PHOTO STUDIO
FD has grown through the years. They have the most stages available to rent, including a rooftop. Their rates, as advertised start at $24.99 per hour. It comes with the basic lights and equipment as well. They do not require any deposits. Make sure to read all their terms and conditions to avoid any additional charges. So that’s the good. Now for the things you should be aware of. They are located in DTLA, so parking, traffic and noise play a role in your booking. Plus they are pretty inconsistent as far as their service is concerned. I’ve been there a couple of times where I requested one of their staff for some basic grip gear and they didn’t know what I was talking about. Plus the studios tend to be unkempt. You get what you pay for, however when in a bind and in need of a studio ASAP, they typically have it for you.
FD PHOTO STUDIO RATINGS:
Affordability and Value = 7/10
Accessibility and Parking = 6/10
Customer Service = 6/10
Cleanliness = 6/10
Amenities = 7/10

7. OPULEN STUDIOS
Opulen is a smaller studio in Downtown LA as well. They have 2 studios to offer. They’re rates start at $30 per hour for their smaller studio. Each studio comes with basic lighting and grip equipment. Keep in mind that their backdrops are extra. The good thing is they are ground level, so no elevators or stairs to worry about. It is pretty easy to load in and out. There is a parking lot across the street that you’ll need to pay for. Similar to photo studios in DTLA, it’s going to be congested. Overall this place is great for a quick, simple shoot.
OPULEN STUDIO RATINGS:
Affordability and Value = 9/10
Accessibility and Parking = 6/10
Customer Service = 6/10
Cleanliness = 5/10

8. NOHO PHOTO STUDIO RENTALS
Noho Studio is one of the smaller studios located in the Valley. The ceiling is low and the space is a little small to my liking. What I like about this place is that rate is very affordable at $30 per hour. There are a good amount of background options and a concrete wall. It also includes equipment with your rental. The good thing is, like Redlab Studios, it is away from the congestion of DTLA. Good for small shoots. I put up high ratings, but placed it down to #8 only because I feel the other studios are more spacious (it feels a little more claustrophobic in here), and the other studios feel more professional and impressive to show to clients.
NOHO PHOTO STUDIO RATINGS:
Affordability and Value = 8/10
Accessibility and Parking = 7/10
Customer Service = 8/10
Cleanliness = 8/10
Amenities = 7/10

9. PHOTO FILM STAGE
Photo Film Stage is another smaller studio that is great for quick and simple shoots. Their rates start at $25 per hour, which is perhaps the cheapest of the bunch, however the lights are not included. They have some basic lights that are available to rent. You can bring your own if you like. The studio is your basic box with a garage door that opens. This one is also away from the congestion of DTLA, which is a plus.
NOHO PHOTO STUDIO RATINGS:

Accessibility and Parking = 6/10
Customer Service = 7/10
Cleanliness = 7/10
