Week 2 Field Research

The Good the Bad and the Straight Up Ugly

Garage Project Beer- I  classify this as a really boring and ineffective can design. I feel as though they were going for a minimalist approach, which I think they have achieved however I don’t understand much about the beverage by looking at this. The plain typewriter text and the black and white colour scheme are visually boring, and would not entice me to drink their product. There is also no information on the can as to what type of beer it is and the packaging gives absolutely no context for the consumer to make any assumptions other than the fact it is beer. I feel like the design was meant to be tongue-in-cheek but as product design I think it is really ineffective and isn’t a design I would be personally drawn to.

contrast this with the Brekeriet Beer bottle design and I believe this bottle is an example of minimalism working in product design. The same monochrome colour scheme, with more information and use of humour works successful here as the design is more engaging for the consumer. They are informed on the product in which they are buying, and the packaging is visually pleasing, not too crowded and good use of various fonts that work cohesively. I think this product, while still in the minimalist style is more effective due to the layout and use of engaging font types, aesthetically pleasing and also informing the consumer on the type of beverage they are buying.
