nothing belongs to jesse. he looks like he’s wearing his big brother’s clothes, until later on in the show, but even then, he’s only imitating the way mike and others dress. he borrows phrases from other people. he takes jane’s phrase dbaa, don’t be an asshole. he takes his na sponsor’s observation that his life is kafkaesque without fully understanding what that means. he lives in his aunt’s old house, full of her things. later on after he buys the house back, it’s noticeably emptier. a couch, speaker system. not much else. when asked to talk about himself, about what he’s doing with his life, he talks about the discovery channel. the history channel. mindless channel-flipping with no passion behind it. by the end of felina, he can imitate walter’s blue meth closer than anyone else. mike gave him the idea for alaska. even his dreams aren’t his own.

jesse is loyal to a fault. he spends the entirety of breaking bad doing what others want of him. mostly mr. white, but also gus and later on todd and jack. what he wants isn’t important. he’s a junkie, a loser. his parents replace him with a better version of a son. walter is one of the only ones who thinks he can do better, be more, but even he only uses him for his own end. mike saw more in jesse, but he wasn’t around long enough to keep him out from under walter’s grip. walter uses him. gus. hank. todd. he’s a tool to be used. a pet. a source of information, a loose cannon. a worthless junkie.

until the end of el camino. he sheds his skin. he takes the advice of mike and jane, two of the people who truly loved him. you can never make things right, but you can start fresh. don’t let the universe take you where it will. make your own decisions. and he will. he has his own name. the whole alaskan road unrolling in front of him. for the first time in his life, he’s his own man. nobody else’s. he’s free.

I am happy to say that in the 5 minutes that Walter appears in El Camino, he makes dad noises and acts like a dick and has no plot relevance whatsoever

i have been moving since the 8th and it was really sucky timing for me to get back on this stupid website but oh my gosh el Camino was amazing and i cried and i wish it was 20 hours longer or a whole mini series or something.

saul was my favorite character my first watch of brba and Jesse has really just become my favorite character of all time. I seriously think it’s the best character development of all time
