New geology video just dropped!
Death Valley is the lowest altitude and hottest place in North America (possibly the Western Hemisphere?). What are the conditions that allow for that, and where does all the salt come from?

Hi’ilawe Falls (1,201 feet high main drop, total over 1400 feet), traditional taro fields, and the magnificent Waipi’o Valley on the island of Hawai’i. The weight of history is heavy here.

Weirdly, I haven’t been able to find a credible source for the -105 measurement for Laguna del Carbón. The NPS’s newest sign at the visitor center calls it -35 if I recall correctly. The Wiki article directs to a 14 year-old listicle from “Geology.com” which is unreferenced. 30 minutes of googling brought no further clarity from English language sources. That’s why I gave it the “possibly” qualifier.
I just packaged a download of 250 m resolution terrain data for that chunk of Argentina, so I’ll find out for certain soon enough!

The near-vertical feature looks to be a clastic dike, which can form from a hundred different processes. This one looks to be a crack in the blue-gray sediments filled with the light brown sediments.

Geology lectures are really good because the professors will often be like 'here's an image of some really cool weird erosion 👍👍🔥🔥' and it's like yayyyyyyy
