Nope, we're not standing in front of Chichen Itza. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Even though our bus stopped there yesterday we decided not to go to this world wonder. 😮 Why? Because we're sick of being tourists just for the sake of it or just to tick it of our list. ☑️ We're not saying Chichen Itza is not beautiful or worth the 500 pesos, we decided Mexico has more beautiful pieces of culture. Chichen Itza (one of the 7 world wonders of the modern time) is filled with tourists, Calakmul is exactly the opposite. 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 Calakmul is way more impressive in our opinion. The culture is richer (Calakmul was the Mayan centre before Chichen Itza) and the complex is also older. 👵👴 The only disadvantage to Calakmul? You'll have to drive 2 hours through the jungle (we did a 1,5 hour jungle trek too 🐒🐆🐦🐧🦃) to reach it and once inside you'll walk around for at least 3 hours to see everything. 🚶🚶‍♀️ Inside there are no street vendors (to reduce garbage inside) so make sure you bring some water. 💧💧 Oooh yeah, don't bring your drone. We literally have no words for this. 💔 This is the worst news we've woken up to on this journey so far. 🇱🇰 Yesterday over 200 people were killed in different bombings in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. 😪 Not only has Sri Lanka a special place in our hearts because it was our first destination on this 1 year honeymoon, it was also one of our favourite destinations, because of the people. They are so genuinely nice. They laugh all the time.
