“My hero,” Maya says softly, a hand moving to her heart.
Lifting up the water bottle she’d been holding onto for life support, she took a small swig before lowering her arm back down. “Breathing feels like it takes too much energy, I’m gonna be fucked up for like a week over this time difference. At least on missions I’ve got adrenaline to rely on.”
there was a soft chuckle that escaped her lips as the other agent said she was her hero. how cheesy and yet kay even enjoyed it. “who says you can’t get adrenaline while not on missions?” kay raised her eyebrows, before leaning to the sides relaxing her body. what was she referring too? damn, she missed being so ambiguous in things. “at least we’re on lockdown which might suck for you but not for me, i guess. sleep for twenty hours is an option too if you really wanna try it.”

like nothing happened last night, agent dionysus was sipping coffee this day. pretending to look sane for a moment, waiting for a kick of the caffeine to reassure herself that everything would be alright. still, there was an uneasy, like the air felt too tense. still, fingers wrapped around the cup. “good lord,” she groaned. maybe small talk would help to get rid of this bad feeling she got. “good morning. how was your night?”
#covertstart#ok so setting could be anywhere like a classroom/lounge area/staff room/outdoor etc etc#eeeeeeeeeeek not my strongest but i tried

“i think fruit salads do the trick and of course, out good friend a cup of water, does this mean you will probably marry me?” she teased, smiling coyly.
“If anyone ever creates a cure for jet lag I will probably marry them,” Maya said, shaking her head at herself for not listening to all the times people gave her tips for overcoming it.

katharina hay prided herself as one of the rather more laid back instructors in the unit. even so, she would never, never forget the perfectly importance of safety. and it’s rather easy for her to notice if someone’s hands was moving, rather than wait for her instruction. the sound of the firearm clicking was something she had grown accustomed to. her eyes immediately darted to the source of the sound. an amused smile easily made its way across her face. still, she explained a little more about safety before letting the young cadets to dissemble the firearm on their own. still, signature agent dionysus smile on her face when she approached the blonde american. “i haven’t said start yet---” it might have come a little too passive aggressive but kay wasn’t feeling particularly bad about it. “---hope you won’t make the same mistakes, cadet.”
“this is literal child’s play,” genevieve groaned as her back rested lazily against her chair listening to the instructor drone on and on about gun safety. “do they really think we’re that stupid that we don’t know how to properly operate a gun or do they just not trust us?” ever since arriving at the eruasian academy viv felt like she was just a little bit out of her element. the instructors at the north american academy knew what she was capable of and knew how to challenge her, but here was a different story. “just watch this,” the blonde whispered to the person next to her and began dissembling the weapon in front of her at lightening speed only to reassemble it seconds later and lay it flat once more. “like i said, child’s play.”

she was using her workaholic nature against her and lucy knew it. lucy snorted, but she nodded in agreement. “sure, sure. good training exercises mingling at a party so i don’t end up being a total stick in the mud, hm?” she raised her eyebrows, slightly amused. “it’s not that it won’t do me any good it’s just…” her nose wrinkled. “… you know, i have… stuff to do.”
raising her eyebrows, she must say she’s surprised that the cadet wouldn’t take her bullshit, but nothing really new. katharina is so used to move on with it and enjoy her day. “stuff? care to elaborate?” she asked. “oh, i hate to diss the academy but this party kinda suck, don’t you think? nothing excitable. so i thought maybe a little training exercise would make it less boring.”

“okay, first of all —” what is with tonight and being so damn defensive? freya scowls, "apples are good for you and even if i had some other weird codename like, i don’t know, DIONYSUS, i’d still be eating this apple.“ she can’t help but laugh at what comes next out of kay’s mouth. "next level —” god, at least some people in this place are funny. “i’m not going to agree to that because one, you’re my instructor and two, i don’t even like wine.” sue her, but it has never been appealing.
“our codenames are both greek gods, freya.” she pointed out, though she knew that the cadet also know that well enough but she was just trying to prove her point. not even surprised when the other laughed since she knew she tend to have that effect on people. eyebrows raised at the redhead’s next statement. “aren’t you supposed to believe and listen to what your instructor say?” but really, their relationship aren’t like that at all. “that’s impossible! there are a lot of varieties of wine. there should be one that you like. or have you not try other than red?”

“actually---” katharina took another step to face the other agent stood tall beside her fellow agent. “no. i was going to get you back to the hall. you see, i don’t want anyone to get in trouble. thought i know how bland the event it and a smoke wouldn’t be a good idea for me tonight so no thank you.”
lighting a cigarette between his lips, miles stood outside the party. the cool air stung his cheeks as he puffed a cloud of smoke. “need a lighter or are you trying to avoid this whole social do as well?” he chuckled, noticing the figure standing behind him.

it’s easy to spot people, especially after years in her training and teaching here. once she saw the red haired girl sitting alone, she made it her mission to reach her. taking another glass of the drink before she sat right down as she put both the drinks on the table. kay gave the cadet a frown followed by her taking a sip of the apple cider they provided at the party. “if anything, i don’t want you to get in trouble for doing that.” well, that was some statement she doesn’t know if it’s true but she easily shrugged off. “it’s a social night, sweets. you should be mingling around not do your homework.”
given a choice, caoimhe very rarely chooses to socialize with other people. she goes to class, of course, and if training involves other people, she won’t shy away, but casual interaction? it makes her feel lost and out of place, a fact all too tied into the fact that she barely has any idea of who she is, let alone what she might want to do without the pressure of the academy. so, now that she’s forced to be a part of the social, she’s instead chosen to settle in the corner of the room with her foreign language homework. when someone else sits down at the table with her, she glances up with a small frown. “could you sit somewhere else? i’m trying to focus.”

it’s difficult not to notice kay’s excitable approach; he smiles to himself the moment she calls out his name, though he only turns to face her when she tugs lightly at the back of his shirt. at her instantaneous teasing, his lips twitch at the corners into a stifled smile. with an expression of feigned innocence, he responds, “really? between you and me, i could’ve come a l-l-lot cheaper. a bottle of wine and some bad films, and i’m out sooner than you can say ‘movie marathon’.” then, with a badly-concealed laugh and a playfully pretentious tone, he adds, “and for the record, i prefer atelier.”
“oh? now i’m intrigued with those films you’ve got. definitely not the cheap wine that got my first attention.” she grinned ear to ear, figured that anyone who had knew her long enough might have know which was the one in her priority. if anything, she shakes her head and lets out a chuckle. “oh, you’ve grown fancy dancy now. ‘s like i don’t even know you.” the weapon instructor crossed her arms around her body whilst leaning on the nearest support. mickey is easily one of her favourites in the agency since they were both aren’t like the typical rigid agents around. “do you have an agenda today, mate? anything fun you wanna do in the social event?”

“ an opportunist. i dig that. i think i’m gonna start usin’ that one from now on. “ frankie nodded to himself, making a note to keep that in his verbal arsenal. “ oh, right, i forgot we use our code names ‘round these parts. in that case…agent zero, at your service. “ why did he choose the code name zero? because it sounded cool, and in frankie’s book, that’s all that really matters. “ well, judging by the looks of it, this place won’t take much to get a little spiced up. maybe a little sprinkle of old bay and a pinch or two of nutmeg and this joint’ll be spicier than a bowl of hot wings ! “
“good. you can be the american opportunist while i’m the original. you should always credit me when you say it,” she playfully teased. kay easily smirked, not really minding the use of the label to someone other than her but it wouldn’t hurt to credit her every time. “hm.” she nodded to the younger agent. “true but i think we need more than nutmeg and old bay. i know we’re in romania, not hawaii but people here just really need a dash of fun, spice and maybe some sunshine to brighten up their lousy moods.”

“Maya; Agent Chameleon.”
“Without risk there’s no reward,” she said with a shrug. “Plus, if we don’t end up pissing someone off at some point, are we truly doing our jobs?”
Dionysus. God of… wine? Fertility? What could that even lend to in terms of her skillset? Usually Maya was good with getting the codenames right, but this time it seemed to miss her entirely. “Dionysus like… you teach winemaking?”
“pleasure to meet you.” as a smile crept up on her lips. it’s almost amusing to her that the agent guessed that she was teaching winemaking. except it translated to her snorting it out, holding down her laughter. “i wish. isn’t that the dream?” she said, referring to the wine-making. “there’s this whole thing about my codename -- it’s an homage to my grandparents winery, really, more than it is a codename describing what i do---” she explained, “---but can you guess what i teach the cadets?”

iindigos:
——— after everything, he doesn’t expect guilt. he doesn’t want it, either. the way she avoids his eyes, even as brief as it is, twists something in his chest fiercely in a way that takes his breath away in an unpleasant absence. it’s wrong. it’s simply wrong. he’s searching her words, her face, her eyes, trying to find any answers to his questions and instead comes back with his own desperation at full force. it sounds like a needy ‘where have you been?’ when he pays attention to it and he doesn’t know what to do with it. and here they are, just dancing. “ you too. ” it’s the truth. the years treated her more than kindly, and it’s almost enough reason for the way he’s just staring at her shamelessly like she might just dissolve where she’s holding her. he’s heard people, some kind and not, try to tell him sorry for his injury. it’d taken him so long to recover, and people coaxing him back after he had all said around the same thing. he’d hated it then because he could feel the insincerity. her apology, on the other hand, hurts worse than the bullet. “ let’s not — ” he begins. she was right about one thing. they couldn’t talk here, in the open, surrounded by people. “ don’t. please. ” he’s shut himself down for so long and in a few words, katharina’s left him to a stilted mess, raw and messy. so he pulls her in, an easy thing, barely at all, just because he can and she’s here, and everything he could prepare flies from his mind. if he dips his head from this position, even a little, they’d be touching foreheads.
all these years of training and training to be better so katarina would never hurt anyone ever again. these few years of her, being an agent and acting like one, unlike how she used to be. she is sharper but never sharp enough to face anything like this. she frowned when he shut her down but that was rather expected. it was followed by her nodding slowly. why would anyone still carry their personal things to formal work event? and how could he open up when she was still wearing up her walls? his hand that reeled her in just feels like something, it’s both comforting and stinging at the same time. after the whole incident, kay was scolded, to put it lightly, by her mentor and agent who in the first place put her up on that mission. but she understood and she’d went through hell again if she could ever stop that from happening. shamelessly, she only accepted and pulled herself closer to him, closer to his chest, where she used to seek for comfort. it’s better to not speak. it’s better to just be present there and just as she looked at him to remind him that she was there, alive, alright, and relieved to see him. and maybe a little closer, closer, she wanted to see him up close and maybe get lost in his eyes, wondering what he was thinking. “nathan....” she called softly. then she abruptly stopped, leaving her lips open as she was about to speak but decided not to. i’ve been well and i’d hate to say that to your face. defeated, she looked down. closing her eyes and hummed to the song playing, trying to distract herself with something else than her heavy chest.

———– he thought ( hoped, really ) that he left this behind but even ten years later, katharina struck him dumb. as he threads them through the crowd and pulls her in to sway, he can’t get the thought out of his head that he’s holding her again. it’s not too familiar, but enough. far more than it should be. “ it seems security detail did you well. ” it isn’t any bit more cold than it being a statement, but if she looks she can find the hurt beneath the words. it’s a question rather than an accusation because nate has to bite down on his words as it was. it’s taken this much not to sweep her away and barrage her with every reflection he’s had since seeing her, all the stray thoughts accumulated over the years, and the self-scolding that comes with it. he squeezes her hand, impulsively. i’m happy you’re alive. but that’s it as he seamlessly brings them into the next step.
the encounter was something else, she was half glad that he was there, alive and well, the other half was wanting to scrape every inch of her being so this would be over. the feeling of nate just there was a little familiar. it brought back memories and regret that she had so long ignored, regret that she thought should be gone after a decade. to his statement, she just stared to his eyes, before looking down. oh, she knew. she knew of how it was her fault on what happened then. she nodded to answer him, not wanting to let him hanging right there. i’m glad you’re okay, she thinks but it translated into something else. “you look great,” was that she could manage to say without exploiting their past even more. only then, she braced herself to look up when she felt the squeeze of his hand. wide eyed, she watches him as she place another hand on his firm shoulder. she begs for one last time to hold him and somehow fate has its way of granting that wish. swaying slowly as the song continued playing, she could only hope he could hear her insides screaming. i miss you and i’m sorry for everything. finally, the guilt came back again, after she realized his words. “i’m sorry....” she muttered, her eyes still fixated on the one person who saved her life.
