Hope for ‘Wicked City,’ despite bad debut
You may be frightened away from ABC’s new show ‘Wicked City,’ because of the poor reviews, rather than its portrayal of a killer with a bad mustache. But there’s hope in the form of Ed Westwick, who plays Kent Grainger, the main star/serial killer in the 1980′s on Sunset Strip. It was Westwick’s clench of that delectable jawline and his seductive speech that helped propel “Gossip Girl” to its sixth, wildly popular season. This very swagger, albeit with psychotic tendencies, may be what saves the series from what The New York Times describes as a very tired regurgitation of the traditional cop show.
But what about the show’s classification as “the most offensive show on TV right now”? If the violence in “Game of Thrones” or the rape scenes in “Sons of Anarchy” can be overcome (just look at their high ratings), then it’s a definite possibility that viewers can be entertained by Grainger’s character, despite his bad womanizing (err, murdering) ways.
The show also has one more factor in its favor: nostalgia is in. Isn’t it fair to give “Wicked City” a few more episodes before turning our backs on the 80′s that we adore so much?
