thinking about how Eursulon as a spirit has a certain amount of (somewhat naïve, because of his wayshadowing and life spent in the mortal world) trust and respect for other spirits, because he expects that they have that for him as well - they’re supposed to be equals (to some degree). he doesn’t think of loopholes and trickery and careful wording when he’s dealing with other spirits (also probably because of his own nature), especially with the Man in Black, because they have an established relationship and the MIB has helped him before.

but Níf. she does exactly what a witch is supposed to, she knows exactly how to be careful and cunning in wording and negotiation and understanding. she understands the importance of words and the ways that spirits move. and she sees through what’s happening IMMEDIATELY. she HAS the skills, and they come from the care she has for the children. it’s so interesting that it’s the MIB himself who told Eursulon to bring a witch, and god this is why they’re important. they see what’s hidden, the intricate connective tissue of magic and liminal space between one dream and another. witches need relationships with spirits, and spirits need relationships with witches too.

Níf you’ve already BEEN a witch, babygirl. you just gotta own it now!

how about anne/sasha/marcy from amphibia?

ok well this might sound controversial but it shouldn’t be because i am literally just summarizing the show. sashanne is teleologically correct. im not saying this because i have anything against marcy. i love marcy! but in terms of what the narrative is establishing, it is not an equal opportunity throuple. it is sashanne. marcy feels (rightfully) insecure and neglected because her friends are in a toxic codependent homoerotic situationship, and while they both clearly love her a lot, it’s not the same kind of passionate obsessive (unhealthy!) love they have for each other. the solution to this (for marcy) is not to demand that she receive more attention from her friends. while they both realize that she felt neglected, apologize for their neglected, and tell her they love her and will always be there for her, it’s categorically not a gesture of them being like “yeah you can be our third.” that would just make her the third wheel in a throuple. moving away and meeting new people is necessary to marcy’s self actualization and personal fulfillment. sashanne is the central romance of the show (spranne is the central relationship but obv it’s not romantic) and that’s just how it is. this wasn’t entirely evident while season 2 was airing, but by the time season 3 ended, it definitely was. shrug
