“I would, but I don’t think the potion I want to make is actually viable to the curriculum - it was in a book that was hidden away in Florish and Blotts when I visited London a couple of years ago. You know, they like a lot of potions that require unknown resources.” 

“You could still ask him,” Bex replied. “In FHA, we make potions that aren’t in the curriculum, and the Herbology club helps gather ingredients. So as long as it’s not, well, y’know, illegal, I’m sure he’ll help.”

“Do you need to pass Arithmancy to be a Herbologist or Healer or whatever?” Gray shook his head, “Not that you’re gonna fail, because you won’t. Isn’t there some kind of tutoring you can get? There’s nothing wrong with getting help if you need it, Bex.”

“No, not really, but I want to get a good grade. A B is not good. No one is ever going to hire me.”

“I… I mean, not much? We were out by the lake and I just sort of asked her if she’d want to come with me.” He shrugged, wondering if she really could glean more out of the simple exchange. “And she said yeah, obviously.”

Bex’s smiled dropped slightly. “Oh, buddy,” she started. “That’s definitely a friend sounding kind of date. Do you want it to be more?”

“See, I need an ingredient, for a potion, but I’m pretty sure what I’m looking for is off limits. Or at least, rare.” 

“Have you tried asking Professor Fils-Aime?” Bex suggested.

With a sigh, Logan nodded, although he was still smiling. “Yeah, yeah I do.” He admitted, shrugging one shoulder in a way that was much more casual than he felt. “I mean, I think it’s a real date, but now you’ve got me nervous.”

“Well, what did she say about it? What did you say? I know girl talk, I can tell you if it’s a friend’s date or a date date.”

Graham looked at his sister, mildly confused. “In what class?”

“What do you think,” she responded. “Arithmancy. I suck at it, I’m such a screw up.” She put her face into the pillows. “I’m going to fail school and never become a Herbologist or a Healer, or whatever.”

“Do you have access to any of the plants when you’re in Herbology club?” Clarissa asked, stepping next to her one day and looking at her intently.

“Uh, yeah,” she replied. “That’s technically what you do in said club. You have to tend to the greenhouse too.”

“Wait, so you’re telling me that you put itching powder in her your roommate drawer? Or they put it in yours?”

“Graham,” Bex said, walking into the room and sitting on his bed, tears in her eyes. “I think I’m going to get a B.”

Logan smirked slightly, eyes instantly finding Julia across the room. “I mean, I’m sure you’re not the only one.” He teased, meeting her gaze with a single laugh. “I came with Julia.”

Bex’s eyes widened slightly. “Julia? So I was right. You like her, don’t you? Is this a friend’s date, or a date date?”

Nodding, Logan thought about her words. She had a point, and if anyone was about to notice whether or not something more was going on there it would probably be him. There was very little that Logan didn’t notice. “Huh? Oh, no, just…. wondering. Thought I read something in the Alchemist or something. You know.”

“Oh come on Logan, you should know by now not to listen to the Alchemist, half that stuff is fake.”

“Did you end up asking anyone here today?” Bex asked, looking at her friend. “Please tell me I’m not the only one here stag. I mean if you aren’t that’s cool to, but I’m totally jealous you have a date.”

“I’m so glad that it’s break,” Bex said. “I actually get to spend time with you and Graham. We should get hot chocolate, right? I’ve missed the Hideaway Cafe’s hot chocolate.”

“Wow, Brightly, don’t you clean up nice,” Bex said walking into the hall. She moved a piece of hair from her face. “Here with anyone tonight?”
