Cam hadn’t seen much of the other trainee despite them being in the same company. It was most likely of his own doing considering he still was pretty busy and the coolness of fall settling in had him sentimental and missing his family back home. Kou was fun to be around but their paths didn’t easily cross, probably something he should change for both their sakes.
“Hey, kou-ala!” Cam grins and slings his arm around the others shoulders, having caught up to him at the lunch break. The nickname was some annoying pun on koala he’s given him in a spur of the moment a while back.
“How are things? You haven’t forgotten me entirely have you?” It would be hard to, Cam tended to annoy people enough to imprint upon their memories permanently. “Want to eat together?

Cam was surprised with how insightful the first workshop session was from the get go. He thought it might be a bit of a slow start and more explanation of what would be coming in the next few meetings together but he’d been able to ask a few questions and take notes.
He noticed a few other trainees around him looking too nervous to ask anything and wondered if they had chosen this workshop or had meant to join a different one. It had ended a few minutes ago but Cam was still fixing up his bag, a few of those same trainees around him lurking near the front of the room.
“Hey,” he called softly to the trainee closest to him, “what did you want to ask earlier?”

snack break | @besooyoung
maybe life would take pity on him and allow him an hour to just curl up and take a nap. oh, to be a cold-blooded lizard resting on a warm rock under a heat lamp. these are such small asks and requests and yet he's at the convenience store, shoving his jacket in the back room and praying not a lot of drunks show up during his shift. maybe his favourite grandma will show up and tuck some ginger candies into his hands as she leaves; he could just buy them himself but his delusional self thinks they taste
"sooyoung-ah~ guess who brought us some "let's get through the shift without wasting away" snacks," he calls out, small take-out box in hand, as he walks back up to the counter. cam's lucky no one had come in after him to witness his cringey amped-up aegyo for his co-worker.
"i got some muffins and fruit tarts to share, something to take the edge off." cam knew the desserts he'd splurged on wouldn't dampen the stress of everything in his life, but little treats always cause a little spark of happiness- even if it wasn't long lasting. he was sure sooyoung needed a break from everything else too.
"haven't seen you in a week or two, i think? how's everything, good i hope?"

"good, i'll send compliments to the chef." he breaks his gaze from her sleepy form at last, turning to set the few dishes he'd used in the sink to wash after nayoung was settled in bed. he didn't want to jolt her up with the stream's loudness. it would only take a couple of minutes.
a little bit longer at her place wouldn't hurt, he decides. an hour or two less spent watching a drama and avoiding his own laundry would hardly be the end of the world so he nods and turns back to her with a thumbs up. "it's a good thing i have housewife duties on my daily schedule at the company."
cam's not sure just how much she'll finish, but he feels relief seeing her eat before what is probably going to be a long day ahead of her tomorrow. she'll finish off and go get ready to sleep, he'll do her laundry, and then he'll quietly sneak out and do the equivalent of a walk of shame. the only shame being that he's so down bad for a woman far out of his league.
"need a warm body to fall asleep or should i just get started on that?"
nayoung just smiles a little. maybe cam is right. he'd find someone else to bother, but they probably wouldn't be as mean to him, and he seems to like that. he's weird, but nayoung supposes she likes him - more than most, anyway.
he slides the food over to her, and she just stares at it blearily for a moment. she wonders if she'll fall asleep while eating and faceplant into it. likely not, but she somehow feels tired enough that it might be a possibility. still, cam worked hard to make this for her, and food is important to staying energized. god knows she'll need a lot of energy.
she takes a bite, and gives a small nod of approval. it's good. "thank you," she says, because it feels only right. cam is here to help her, expecting absolutely nothing from her in return. weird.
"do you want to do my laundry?" she chuckles, mostly joking. it has started piling up, and it's a pain in the ass to do while she's so tired. part of her feels like she should do it herself, if only for the sake of her underwear, but it's nothing cam hasn't seen before. he can do it if he wants to.

"maybe," he concedes, "but it won't be as fun with anyone else."
it takes just a minute to put everything together and slide the bowl over, utensils laid over the top of the bowl. cam stops just when it's under nayoung's chin. maybe the smell will keep her awake for the time it takes to eat. "order up!"
there's no way the cam of a few years would've expected the outcome of taking on that convenience store job. he'd been in desperate need of money and sleep, only one of those obtainable with multiple jobs. it wasn't the direct reason he was a trainee again but it had led to whatever he currently had going with nayoung. despite their back and forth, it was a soothing balm to his soul when he didn't have many other close connections with people.
nayoung may be a spitfire, but a fire nonetheless; raging and bright but warming in its own innate way.
cam's sure he isn't being too subtle despite his best efforts. how can he be when nayoung's sitting there with lidded eyes, a slight shimmer that must have been missed by a makeup wipe. she's tired, she's beautiful, and she's not really his in any sense but he can't help but feeling like he's anchored in still waters.
"need anything done around here besides dishes? i can keep quiet if you wanna go sleep."
banter with nayoung is easy, it's hard, it energizes him just like it did back in the convenience store and even still. there's no one else he crosses as much since his sister left and even then, this is something far different.
where their banter energizes him, the way her lips meet his drains and has him melting for the split moment it happens. he doesn't keep his lips pursed out to tease for more, not with the tone he's inevitably set for the night. it's difficult though, to keep the endearment off of his face with his head still in his hand and a counter separating them.
"woah, that seems big." it's interesting hearing about the show from a spectator and 'alumni's view. if she has her own team to coach, it means things slightly differ from the previous season. seeing her on screen and how she'll handle these new trainee wannabes will be interesting knowing how she is in settings like this, where it's quiet and dim and warm.
"i promise," he lifts his left pinky and wiggles it. "besides; who am i going to tell? auntie euisoo?" he thinks of the old lady that comes in on sundays that always forgets her hearing aids and buys up all of a certain brand of sweets for her grandson when he visits.
"i'm sure you'll get something cool done for it though," he moves for the rice once the timer beeps. "i hope you're getting breaks through the day.." he can't imagine the work that'll be going into a smaller competition within the bigger overall one, and all the moving parts of it. "if you overwork yourself and die, who else will i bother?"

you're so annoying. nayoung just thinks it because she doesn't have the energy to say it, and it's not like cam isn't aware of how annoying he is. it's just quite literally a waste of breath.
she blows a puff of air through her nose in mild amusement at the top chef comment, because yes - putting rice in the microwave mirrors a cooking show so accurately (it does not).
"about like...a three, which i think is generous," she replies, lips quirking up in the smallest playful smile. she figures he can't really ruin that much, though, at least with her meal of choice at this unbelievable hour.
she watches as cam mirrors her stance, frowning subconsciously at him. then he speaks softly, with concern so sincere and endearing that she can't help but reach across the counter and pull him into a kiss. it's nothing monumental, and ultimately brief, with nayoung pulling away and sinking back into her seat before long.
she props her chin back up on her hand again, blinking at him not so unlike a sleepy cat. she should answer his question, though. "it's always a lot," she chuckles. not in a bad way, though. she loves coaching next gen, really. she loves her job. she's just...very tired. "i think it's going to get worse. not that it's bad now, just...busier. i was just recently assigned my own team to coach. we'll be competing against another team performing the same song."
she isn't really sure how much she should tell cam, considering how stupid he is. who knows if he'll go run his mouth somewhere he shouldn't. "i'm not sure how top secret this is, so don't tell anyone else or whatever," she adds for good measure, yawning soon after.

“Ahh,” he lets out, soft to hide the bit of disappointment at the fact. He should technically be relieved, that she had eaten dinner - whatever it may be. Knowing how trainees were it could be anything constituting as a meal, no guarantee that it was healthy or filling so he takes the opportunity in what nayoung didn’t say to continue on with flitting around the kitchen. She ate, she didn’t say she wasn’t hungry.
She confirms just a little bit after, his intuition coming in clutch. He nods and sorts out the different things he’d brought to prepare bowls first, the beef can sit til she needs it or he can prepare it later. “Yes, chef!” It’s easy to stick his tongue out and poke fun, if she’s not gonna go nap he might as well keep her entertained- either by humour or annoyance.
“I feel like I’m on Top Chef or something..” he throws the store container of pre-cooked rice in the microwave wave and hits the quick start button turning around and stances himself with his hands on the counter.
“On a scale of 1-10 how much do you trust me on this side?” Cam moves to mirror Nayoung, head in hand and letting his voice quiet, “was today a lot? How’s it going with things there?”
nayoung looks exhausted, something cam feels a little guilty for even thinking privately in his head. it's not that she looks bad, just tired and her aura a bit muted. he was expecting as much though, when he decided to invite himself over.
he doesn't hesitate at the door like he might usually, not wanting to waste her time with something like that, instead slipping off his shoes and switching to the slippers he brought. he sets the bag on her kitchen counter and pulls the side down for her to see at the query.
"sustenance. well, ingredients to make something edible at least."
he starts taking out the stuff that can spoil so he can put it in the fridge first. "there's a few choices, the other stuff can be for a different time- uh... there's beef or I can make us a tuna and salmon bowl, up to you!" he points out the options from the spread on the counter before shaking jazz hands as if presenting it all.
"i know the show's probably taking a lot out of you right now- i didn't come here with any expectations so you can nap or something until i'm done or whatever, just wanted to make sure you were eating something healthy." he feels a bit like an idiot rambling like that, but he's already there and he's been infinitely more embarrassing in nayoung's presence before. even if she tells him to get out and leave, he'll recover. he's used to her jabs and directness.
"soo... i'm making us dinner- not taking no for an answer." he hesitantly looks at her from his peripheral to watch for her face, because he definitely will, in fact, take no for an answer. he was used to taking direction.

nayoung is tired. she wonders if she's just getting old. when she was a trainee the first time, she would train every single day, always more than required of her. now, sr media is requiring she train a little extra at night and on sundays to make up for time she loses mentoring on next gen, and it's all...tiring.
she doesn't mind it. she certainly won't complain. this is exactly what she signed up for, and exactly what she wanted. she doesn't regret it for a second. but she can't deny that it's tiring.
so when cam contacts her, not long after she's finally gotten home, she doesn't have the energy to do much of anything let alone what cam is contacting her for. or what she thinks he's contacting her for, anyway.
✉ –> cam – yeah but i'm tired so – u can still come over if you want though i guess
as much as she hates to admit it, she does actually kind of enjoy cam's company these days, outside of her bed, too. she just hopes he's not too energetic. she takes comfort in the fact that even if he is, he doesn't seem to mind her being completely exasperated by him.
she's laying face down on her sofa when she hears a series of weird knocks that could only belong to cam, far earlier than anticipated. she unceremoniously rolls off the couch and heads toward the door.
she opens it and doesn't say anything, just motions for him to head inside and closes the door behind him. she notices the bag he has then. "what's that?" she asks in her typical unenthused deadpan tone she doesn't bother to hide around the people closest to her.
she would normally have a witty comment to go with the question, but her brain lags behind too far and doesn't supply anything.

"no," he's mixing the batter and mentally mourning how his arms will feel in the morning- he wonders where all his muscles went suddenly because he feels like they're soggy noodles.
"nope," he offers in a second reply. there's no way he's giving up now after making it to this stage of cooking. he had decided, in some misguided, energy-drink induced confusion, that he was going to make dinner and there was no turning back now and conceding defeat. sure, yuwol could probably order something without an issue, but it was different to have something hot off the stove and fresh. delivery food always had condensation build up and it ruined the vibes.
"training, more training- I need to do a few more english cl-" he's a little preoccupied, pouring out the batter to the pan once he's done mixing; he almost misses what the other man had said- "you what?"
he lets the pancake he'd already poured settle on the heat, cooking, while his side-eye turns into a full blown insect stare. "how did you just end up in a band...?" he thinks to their mutual friends and the band he had had to leave behind when getting signed. "do i know them?"
yuwol doesn’t always receive guests in his apartment. apart from one, but said individual doesn’t really count as a visitor in yuwol’s brain at this point, more like a housecat returning home. cam is different though, cam is an actual guest and yuwol shouldn’t be idling about doing nothing. that being said, he’s pretty sure it’s beneficial to the both of them that yuwol stays out of the kitchen. he doesn’t have the best cooking skills.
“we could also order takeout,” yuwol suggests, not wanting to actually bother cam at the end of the day. he feels bad, his fridge is mostly empty and cam is the one dealing with it. yuwol can go without dinner, but something in his gut tells him that saying that won’t fly well with cam. “or we can go out to eat…” even though nothing beats homemade pancakes. he thinks it’s ridiculous how expensive pancakes can be in fancy restaurants when the portions aren’t filling in the slightest.
he doesn’t want cam to feel all alone in the kitchen regardless, so he hovers over, a respectable distance away so he can give cam enough space to work his cooking magic. “the week was… fine.” yuwol was absolutely terrible at small talk unless he’s in event mode, by this point cam should be aware of that. he still tries.
“classes, violin lessons, violin recitals… the usual. oh, i also ended up in a band somehow.” the last sentence felt like a realization more than an explanation. as if he still can’t believe that happened. which, to be fair—sometimes, he doesn’t believe it.
“what about you? how has your week been?” it’s only polite to ask back after all.

cam groans at the replies he receives, he really should've expected some sort of push back even if it was in a playful way. his brain is fried enough that making even a simple decision on where to go for the night is taking the most out of him. although he has some sort of adrenaline powering him through right now, he does feel the dreading laziness impending.
"pc bang? i wanna lose in lol and eat my fill. i'm allowed to be out i'll just suffer for it tomorrow when im tired (more)" as long as he gets to the company in time to have a decent breakfast to jumpstart his energy and a coffee- he'll be fine.
he doesn't wait for an answer to head out to the local place they've hit up before. luckily it's not to far so he doesn't have to hop on the subway.
"meet me there?? xx"
once he makes it to the place he pulls up the menu on his phone, leaning against the wall and marking down all the things he wants but probably won't end up getting all of. chicken though, was priority.
"i'm wasting away, crawl faster pls"
jay has an abundance of free time. just kidding, there isn’t much free time when he’s struggling between studying for his demanding classes with deadlines stacked on top of one another and his overwhelming urge to start writing lyrics on the walls surrounding him. whatever, it doesn’t matter. jay’s determination to juggle everything all at once is as strong as ever, he’s certain he can do it.
he doesn’t mind a distraction every once in a while though. so when he gets a text from cam, it doesn’t take long before jay turns his attention away from his laptop to his phone screen. jay snorts, thinks cam is doing a horrible job at being discreet. if cam was even trying.
regardless, jay is picking up his phone and pulling up his text messages so he could respond to the other.
“are you even allowed to go out at this time?” he types down, a genuine question. not that he cares whether cam was breaking any rules. that’s cam’s decision, jay is just along for the ride. an innocent bystander, if you will. “i thought you trainees have some sort of curfew. or a crazy schedule that stops you from living life.” then again, that may be the case for most jobs these days. curse you, capitalism.
says the rich kid. even though he hates his parents’ corrupt money, that doesn’t mean jay is exempt.
“i may be free but i want to be convinced too. where do you want to go to be a mischevious little rule-breaking gremlin?” he asks, fully aware he’s enabling cam’s current terrible decisions. but who is jay, if not an enabler? he’ll always go for the crazier route. it’s fun!

simping 101 | @benayoung
->buldak scary lady >> you up?
cam pulled the cap down further over his face, smushing his hair tighter against his forehead in an attempt to stay inconspicuous. usually he wouldn't be so nervous to stay unrecognized, not that he had much to worry about in the first place, but it was a different risk waiting outside of nayoung's apartment.
the plastic bag he was carrying crinkled in his hand as he shifted to look at his phone again when the buzz notified a new kkt reply. the obnoxiously cute theme was a backdrop to nayoung's reply and permission, relieving him a little of the worry plaguing him that she wasn't home or didn't want company. he'd already gone out to the store and while he could've just took it all home for his own use later on, he wanted to do something nice for the other.
crossing paths with her in the last little while was rare. cam was worried for the friends he had currently working on the new reality program experiencing burn out, all of them were hard workers anyways so the added responsibility of filming a show was a lot. they both had already experience next gen, but he wasn't sure how different being in a mentor role was. if he could help out a little with that, it would make him feel better.
getting up to her apartment wasn't a big deal, just trying not to make eye contact with any passerbys. usually, when he wanted to really push her buttons, he would knock out whatever new song on the charts was most popular but nayoung had said she was tired so he compromised by knocking a short melody and waiting, pressing his lips together for a kissy face in case she looked out the peephole.

Hopeless causes | @beyuwol
“I hope you won’t be complaining about having breakfast for dinner.”
Cam is mixing pancake batter in another man’s kitchen who isn’t even a one-night stand. What has his life come to?
He pitied the other man without really pitying him. There was no pitying nepobabies, not really- not in a way that was ethical or sane. Yuwol was a grown up; realistically he should know how to make his own food yet here Cam was making him pancakes for dinner because he had training and this was the only time he had free.
“Well, give me the rundown. How was the week, what trouble did you get into, who did you get into it with?” He raised an eyebrow and leaned back against the counter, still stirring.

Camera: aha you’ve convinced me…
Jay hasn’t even messaged Cam today. Cam is being delusional. Cam wants a break and he knows the way to get that is to go out with Jay. The guy is reliable in the way that he’s always up to do something, especially if it’s kind of sneaky.
Honestly, Cam doesn’t care where they go or what they do. He hasn’t been doing anything other than going to training and going to sleep; arguably a smart move for a new and tired trainee. But, considering he just officially secured a proper trainee contract, he thinks it should be okay to celebrate a bit- whether it’s hitting up a pc room to play some pvp with Jay or get some chicken somewhere.

during the morning check-in, a coach you don’t often work with pulls you aside for a private conversation. this particular coach has a reputation for their serious demeanor and for a moment, you might wonder if you’re getting in trouble for something. however, any thoughts of accepting your reprimanding are quickly squashed when they speak.
“as your trainers, it’s our responsibility to bring out your full potential as a performer,” he speaks in a clear, almost monotonous tone; maybe he’s too serious after all. “and part of that responsibility is challenging you to do things out of the ordinary. we’re trying to find where you might fit into the company’s future plans.”
“for the next week, please attend solo workshop classes for your afternoon special lessons. you’ve already been signed up by the staff and we’ll be expecting to see you in class on monday.”
the coach fixes you with a rather stern look, as if you were in trouble rather than being directed to a specific path on your training journey, at least for the next week. “this is not necessarily a reflection of what the company has planned for you, to be clear,” he warns, “but a way to help grow your skills and repertoire so that you can be prepared for whatever the future may hold. please attend the next week of lessons diligently.”
with no more to say, the stern coach dismisses you back into the crowd of trainees. you see him stop and speak to a few other trainees as well, supposedly recruiting others to this week-long solo performance course.

cam's a little surprised when nayoung graces him with a smile, knowing he's in visual range, and then even more when she stuffs a whole wrap in her mouth. it's a little-
he turns slightly to grab a little more food for himself. not wanting to be caught staring. he perks up and turns back quickly at her thanks. "wow.." he lets his mouth part slightly to ramp up his dramatics, "a thank you, you must be really in the christmas spirit."
he teases nayoung sparingly, he knows his limits and knows she could probably kick his ass- he would probably hate the idea of that if he was little more sane and normal.
"merry christmas to me then, the most festive thing i've experienced all day really." he gestures around to the room. "i wonder which trainee they forced to decorate... it's a little bland, but then again i'm used to bright and obnoxious back home."
cam just stares at her for a moment, and nayoung blinks at him expectantly. what's wrong with you? she almost says, but he sets his water down and moves to fulfill her request before she gets a chance, and she actually smiles, content. it doesn't surprise her, honestly. she gets the vibe that cam would do most things she asks of him without much protest. call it a commanding presence.
nayoung takes the plate with more enthusiasm than usual from her. she's just really hungry, apparently, and honestly, pretty happy that this shit is almost behind them. she knows this is supposed to be a christmas party, and nayoung likes christmas plenty, but it's more a celebration of freedom to her than anything else.
freedom to return back to the familiar, arguably monotonous training schedule. maybe it's ironic of her to think. she misses it, though.
she gives a quick look around, assessing their situations, then turns back toward the food table and stuffs an entire one of the radish wraps in her mouth in one go. it's just cam. maybe he'll laugh at her, but nayoung doesn't care about that. she'll just bring up the fact that she saw him asleep at his night shift in the convenience store, so knocked out he was drooling on the counter. it was sort of impressive, honestly.
"okay," she replies curtly, after several moments of her chewing and swallowing her food. "thank you." nayoung knows how to be polite when she needs to be, or wants to be. that's rarely the case with cam, but she's in a good mood now, so might as well express some gratitude or something. "merry christmas. me thanking you is a holiday exclusive," she adds sarcastically.

cam smiled at the thanks, just happy to help in a small way. he knew intimately what it was like with a dehydration headache and he wanted to prevent that as much as he could for the both of them.
"i'll take a look, don't worry." he hummed in response as he skimmed over the notebook's page and then went back in with the capped end of his pen to better comb through. "i can imagine, but it'll get better with time."
cam would consider himself pretty fluent in korean. it was something his family had kept up at home despite being in a foreign country where he had to predominately communicate in english, and he had improved even more during his years back in korea. he wasn't perfect, but it was good enough to not be caught at first contact and he was able to mostly articulate himself with little issues.
"i'm still learning new words, even now- like here, you could use a shorter word." he reached over for his led pencil and lightly wrote out the alternative word he was thinking of. "that might flow better."
he leans back once he gets to the bottom of the page on his third review, sliding the book back and grabbing his own bottle of water to start on. "you haven't been getting flack from anyone have you?"
don't need a translation - besongwritingcamp | @bexrisa
"i have some water and snacks," he slid the open bag further down the table towards risa, a little out of breath from rushing back to their little work area.
cam had respected the other trainee from the first time they had met. it took confidence and an outgoing side to go around a new company like sr media and hand out goody bags like she had. they had gotten on pretty smoothly from there. cam didn't have much time as a trainee there over her but he had been there long enough to show her some helpful spots to get alone time, and what studios had the better mics for playback.
it was a nice little friendship they'd found in each other so it made sense to work together on something for the songwriting camp. cam had a little experience with writing, it was something that was essentially expected of him at the old company and then it was something he dabbled in lightly in between those periods of his life- mostly in the form of poetry in his journal, never really progressing into the stage of formal lyrics. he was getting a bit better with writing his own raps though, practise and dedication had gotten him somewhere at least.
"how's the song going? need me to read what you have yet?"

cam had respected the other trainee from the first time they had met. it took confidence and an outgoing side to go around a new company like sr media and hand out goody bags like she had. they had gotten on pretty smoothly from there. cam didn't have much time as a trainee there over her but he had been there long enough to show her some helpful spots to get alone time, and what studios had the better mics for playback.
it was a nice little friendship they'd found in each other so it made sense to work together on something for the songwriting camp. cam had a little experience with writing, it was something that was essentially expected of him at the old company and then it was something he dabbled in lightly in between those periods of his life- mostly in the form of poetry in his journal, never really progressing into the stage of formal lyrics. he was getting a bit better with writing his own raps though, practise and dedication had gotten him somewhere at least.
"how's the song going? need me to read what you have yet?"
