Bex might actually have to make him this badge now. Maybe it could be a birthday present, or Christmas, whichever was sooner. Did she know when his birthday was? Somehow, even growing up with that many siblings, she was still rubbish at remembering birthdays. "I will do my best to fight the forces of evil numbers," she said solemnly, after giggling at his goofy impression. "Literally! I would do anything for money like that. Ok, not anything," she amended quickly. "I hope so!"
Hanging out with Bex was pretty much becoming a daily routine: they’d finish school, meet up, and go to Bex’s for a few hours to hang out. They’d got through a lot of the Vampire Diaries at this point. Damon’s dad was convinced that the two were dating - one reason that Damon never offered his house to hang out at. Of course, Damon would love to be Bex’s boyfriend, but with her dating Flynn that was completely off the cards. Damon was comfortable enough at Bex’s house by now that she’d volunteered him to find them snacks and drinks, as she’d “had a long day” (but honestly, he’d do anything for her anyway). He was just making them some hot chocolate when he heard the door go, and poked his head around the corner to greet Flynn; the two were on good “hi” terms at this point.
What Damon wasn’t expecting was for Flynn to have come in holding hands with some blonde chick. The two stopped at the door, laughing quietly, before they kissed. Damon had no idea what to do - watching them felt incredibly awkward but he couldn’t pretend he hadn’t seen it. He was actually shocked that Flynn had the audacity to bring a girl home when Bex was right there; maybe he’d forgotten that she finished early on Tuesdays? Damon quickly retreated to the kitchen as the pairing went to Flynn’s room. Once he’d finished making the drinks, he took them to Bex, having internal conniptions about what to do. Bex deserved to know, right? He gave it to her, knowing his face obviously showed that something was wrong, but having no idea what to say.

"You do! I will make you a badge: kindest to Bex." Flynn and Kylie would definitely have something to say about that if she did. She could make three badges. "Don't put ideas like that out into the world! We're both gonna have that nightmare now." She was amused that Damon's threat was to write a serious letter. He was such an unthreatening guy. It was probably why she liked him so much, she reflected. "I know! You'd think she'd be thrilled that people like her character so much that the show kept getting renewed. Honestly." It was funny how much they'd bonded over this show, when she'd just brought it off as an offhand comment. Thank you, fate.

Damon treating her like normal helped her brain kick back into reality a little bit. Nothing had changed, they were still friends, and it would all be ok. "That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me," she said, wiping away an imaginary tear. "Well, that sounds horrible. Imagine having to test a hypothesis." She snorted. "Well that makes total sense, c'mon! I really hope she wakes up for the last episode, at least." She was a little sad they were nearly done with the show. There was a spin-off to watch, at least. She didn't know which other show they could have such a strong love-hate relationship with. She'd heard that Riverdale was good/bad. "It does! Perks of living with a hairdresser."

Bex sat down, glad he hadn’t commented on her weird greeting. “Oh no, that sucks. See, that’s why I didn’t take Maths!” It would’ve paired well with the three sciences, but she’d been loathe to give up Art. It was important to have a hobby, she’d figured; it would show she was a well-rounded person and make her stand out from the rest. She blushed a little when he said he’d missed her, and took a sip of her drink to try to hide her face. “Yeah, yeah I’m fine. I just needed a lie down, I think.” She looked down at her nails and smiled, a little flustered. “Oh, thank you! Kylie likes using me as a life-sized doll.”

Kylie had burst into her room and switched the song off within minutes of arriving home. She’d taken one look at Bex and announced she was going to do her nails and her hair for her. She’d not even finished the first nail before Bex was pouring her heart out. For someone who talked a lot, Kylie was a great listener and even better at soothing a troubled mind. Heading for lunch now, Bex couldn’t even remember what she’d been so worried about. Damon was her friend, and- oh shit there he was. She took a deep breath before heading over, telling herself she was fine and everything was ok. Then he looked up and smiled and she could literally feel her heart speeding up. Oh god, she was not going to survive this crush. “Hey-o!” Oops, that was a less than normal greeting. “You alright?” she asked, trying to save it.

“Yeah, she just works at a hairdressers so, y’know, ridiculous hours.” It did mean free haircuts for her and Flynn though. She laughed at his joke, feeling immeasurably fond of him.  ~~~ timeskip ~~~
Bex leant against the wall, scrolling idly on her phone. Damon would be out of class any moment, and she couldn’t wait to see him and tell him all about her day. Well, all about her afternoon, since she’d seen him at lunch. She smiled just thinking about the way he’d inevitably beam when he saw her, the way his face would light up and his beautiful eyes would sparkle and-
Wait. Her head shot up, and she stared dazedly into space. Oh no. Oh dear. She stood frozen for a second, then shot off across the playground. A few streets later, she came to her senses and stopped, largely due to the stitch in her side. She walked the rest of the way home, which she spent composing a text to Damon; in the end she just sent “not feeling very well sorry”, then spent the rest of the evening staring at the ceiling listening to Unchained Melody on repeat.

Bex realised laughing had probably been a bad move, but she hadn’t been able to help it. It was just such a weird idea. She patted his knee. “Well, honestly, thank you for not judging me for it.” This was probably why he hadn’t asked any questions; he’d just made an assumption and ran with it. God, should she explain? She did trust him, by this point, not to call the cops or tell the school, but she couldn’t bear it if he started looking at her different. Seeing the pity on his face... she wasn’t ready for that. “Should we watch the episode, before you put your foot in it again?” she asked, nudging him, hoping the humour would let him know she wasn’t mad.

Bex frowned at him, her worry only increased when he put his hand on her shoulder. It took a few seconds for his words to compute, because they made absolutely no sense. Cheating on her? Then she realised what he must have thought, what he was still thinking. Her face screwed up into disgust for a moment before she let out a bark of laughter, and leant forward, putting her head into her hands, dissolving into horrified giggles. “Oh- my god,” she got out after several seconds, still shaking with laughter. “Damon...” She wiped at her eyes. “Flynn isn’t my boyfriend, he’s more like my brother. Kylie’s his girlfriend. I just live with them.” She wrinkled her nose up. “I can see how you came to that conclusion, but he’s 22, he’s like, a proper adult. That would be a bit creepy.”

It was nice having a proper friend her own age. She’d not made any close friends since she’d moved in here, too scared she’d let her secrets slip, but there’d just been something about Damon. And now they spent most evenings together, studying or watching The Vampire Diaries. It was a really silly show, but they were enjoying it. She preferred silly shows; she’d had enough of drama to last her a lifetime.
Bex looked up with a beam as Damon came in, taking her hot chocolate and cradling it in her hands, inhaling deeply. “Thank you! It smells gorgeousss,” she said, before noticing the look on his face.
She didn’t have time to ask before she was interrupted by, “Oooh, so this is Damon! I’ve heard a lot about you.” Kylie’s long hours meant Damon was always gone before she got home, and she’d teased Bex endlessly about him, asking if she was making him up. Seeing the pleading look on Bex’s face, she relented. “Ok, well, me n’ Flynn are going out for dinner once I’ve glammed up, so be good, kiddies!” She blew them a kiss and disappeared again.
Damon looked, somehow, even more horrified now. “Are you ok?” Bex asked, wondering what could possibly have happened in the last two minutes to make him look like that.
