Social Movements
Over the years we have seen the creation of many social movements, such as Black Twitter #blacklivesmatter, #alllivesmatter #metoo and most recently mass school shootings.
Social media has greatly impacted these movements, as we have seen them play out in real time right before our busy daily lives.
It is disheartening to see how divided we are as a nation when discussing issues such as, gun violence, sexual assault, domestic violence, political topics and racism.
Everyone is quick to blame one another and wanting congress to implement new laws to “fix” these issues. I believe that social change begins with us…the people, in terms of educating ourselves before we initiate/participate in heated debates on social media.
What I would like to see for our society, is unification of the people. I believe that social media is a great medium to this, now only IF…we the people can raise our next generation to be accepting of our peers that are different from us and not engage in troll behavior. To educate our youth and debate with knowledge, not violence.
