Anar Patel row: Allegations of wrongdoing in sale of land are 'figment of imagination', said HC
The Gujarat government rejected allegations of wrongdoings in the sale of land to a private company reportedly linked to Chief Minister Anandiben Patel's daughter Anar in an affidavit submitted to the Ahmedabad High Court on Wednesday, calling the allegations the petitioner's "figment of imagination." The decision made by the state government is legitimate and in line with the state government's plans for strengthening the state's tourism business, according to the affidavit submitted by Joint Secretary in the Revenue Department Bharat Trivedi. The affidavit was submitted by the Gujarat government in response to a PIL by the NGO RTI Activists Sangathan through its leader Razak Baloch before a division bench comprising Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice Anant Dave. According to the affidavit, the employees of the respondent departments did not commit fraud in the land allotment and "strictly adhered to the prevailing policies of the various departments of the state government" when they distributed the 99 hectares of property. The court approved the petitioner's request for two weeks to file a response to the affidavit. One Wildwoods Resort & Realties Pvt. received the government land at Patla village in the Amreli district. Ltd (WRR), which was allegedly held by Anar Patel's business associates, at a discounted rate of Rs 15 per square metre rather than at market value of Rs 180 per square metre, according to the PIL. The PIL demanded an investigation by a judicial commission and the cancellation of the state government's order to allot WRR via land. The affidavit stated that because the valuation of the subject land was greater than Rs 1 crore, a three-tier system for determining the true market value of the land was used in the current case before the cabinet evaluated and approved the same. It said that separate reports from the Mamlatdar and Collector were requested when deciding how much land to allot. from the Tourism Department's view and the Forest Department's NoC.
