i'm really fascinated by hyperfeminine culture like dallas cowboy cheerleaders southern sororities stuff bc growing up i literally thought that gender roles were like made up to sell barbies or whatever but like. people are living their lives like that. it's hard to remember that we are the same species

I just finished the Dallas cowboys cheerleaders docuseries and boy it’s just a lot of 18- to 27ish-year-olds going “wow I think I peaked” and a bunch of middle aged women who are like “yeah my life peaked as a Dallas cowboys cheerleader”
EXCEPT FOR two women who were like “yeah it was amazing being DCC but I’m looking forward to life after it” and one who’s like “i am terrified about what comes after but I want to see what I’ll be like for the first time outside of DCC”
And it really does remind me of people in sororities who are like “college is the best years of your life!!!1!!11!!”, even down to the timeframe, because you get five years of being a cheerleader and then you retire.
OBVIOUSLY I don’t have an identity tied to like. bodily performance. and which otherwise relies on my physical self being in tip-top shape, so I’ve just always assumed that life is a mountain I can keep climbing forever, and who knows when I’ll peak, but there’s always going to be time for me to do cool and amazing and awe-inspiring things after any given age. And maybe more obviously, my professional identity as “academic” and “researcher” for so long was so hard to give up that I’ve clung to it by my fingertips and just haven’t really given it up yet, so I get it on that side too… but it has to add an extra layer of devastation to, say, be a dancer and know that you’ve wanted to be a Dallas cowboys cheerleader since you were like five or whatever, and then you do it, and then you retire, and then you’re like well wtf do I do now, and it’s just SO sad that that happens so early in your life.
Idk man I wish we didn’t have this obsession with youth (and also with fame, because if you’re not famous by the time you’re out of high school, you’re obviously fucked) and instead we were like “did you know you can do whatever the hell you want to and change your entire trajectory at any age if you’re not happy?”

In Amerika, there is the nearly universal conviction—or so it appears—that sex (fucking) is good and that liking it is right: morally right; a sign of human health; nearly a standard for citizenship. Even those who believe in original sin and have a theology of hellfire and damnation express the Amerikan creed, an optimism that glows in the dark: sex is good, healthy, wholesome, pleasant, fun; we like it, we enjoy it, we want it, we are cheerful about it; it is as simple as we are, the citizens of this strange country with no memory and no mind.
The current argument on sex between the Right and the Left is not about the nature of fucking as such. It is strictly about whether or not this good thing is good outside marriage or between persons of the same gender (however they manage it). "In other words," writes Marabel Morgan, interpreting Scripture no less, "sex is for the marriage relationship only, but within those bounds, anything goes. Sex is as clean and pure as eating cottage cheese." Marabel Morgan's The Total Woman (a manual for wives who want to get their husbands to fuck them and maintain a cheerful attitude and a belief in God all at the same time) spawned classes all over the United States, including in churches, to teach conservative, Christian women how to act out the so-called fantasies of their husbands with costumes and props. The Left prefers many partners to one; and Hustler's meat-grinder cover, in which a woman is fed into a meat grinder and comes out as ground beef, expresses its food preference. On both Right and Left, a citizen had best be prepared to affirm her loyalty to the act itself. Ambivalence or dissent impugns her credibility; a good attitude is requisite before she is allowed to speak—in magazines, on television, in political groups. The tone and general posture of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders set the standard for a good attitude; not to have one is un-Amerikan and sick too. The social pressure to conform is fierce, ubiquitous, and self-righteous.
—Andrea Dworkin, "Intercourse."

DCC Kelce doing the absolute most hilarious thing ever after her retirement from the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and wearing Eagles gear to the Super Bowl and rooting for the Eagles. Koe’s probably rooting for the Chiefs.

if anyone questions why I'm so feminist, "woke" and independent, I'll just get them to meet my mum (who just enlightened her friends on how dallas cowboy cheerleaders is a cult and how the patriarchy thrives on the undedicated and indoctrinated) hell yeah, that's my mum!!

"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you 🙄" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence

its crazy that a lot of what we call 'video essays' these days are basically low budget documentaries on increasingly weird and niche topics. no network approval no tv budget just one guy with maybe a hired editor/writer and a couple of friends willing to read voice lines. and then they put it on youtube like its no big deal. insane.
