New idea just dropped, what if Gatsby was an Orpheus? These dreamers who mix love and romance with fantasy and hope, the ones who turn love into a fairytale and the tragedy of their love is its conflict with reality? "He could show you how the world could be in spite of the way it is" but alone they cannot change the world and that is their tragedy, no matter how much they great their love is, it will never be greater than the forces of nature. For Orpheus it was death, for Gatsby it was time, for both it was saying goodbye but they loved so fiercely, they fought that ending with everything they had, their love was strong enough to challenge the world itself. Orpheus moved gods and Gatsby became a myth himself all in the name of this dream of love, this deep passion they held in their heart that the world could not touch but beauty, their hearts belonged to beauty until the very end. I'm still working out this idea but there's something about these dreamers who fought their endings and who challenge the world itself with the fierceness of their love.
