Magnus and Alec work really well because of soo many things.

My current favorite: impulsivity!!!

Specifically, I think they are both very impulsive, but keep it under wraps pretty successfully. Like they present to the Clave and the Down World fairly level headed, I mean yeah they have moments to let go (rightfully imo like at Lorenzo), but the default is that presentation as collected, thoughtful leaders.

When they are together though? All bets are off! Try a new restaurant? Yeah! Spontaneous trip? Go! Treasure hunting? Never tried it, but I have time today.

and ok im bullshitting his job here but maybe he works backstage or something like making sure no one gets in and shit like that? so once magnus is off the stage he's also the one to hand him water and magnus is so nice and bright offstage you know? like in there he looks ethereal but offstage he's just so human. and then they just talk? and it's great?

also alec is that bitch so when magnus is all like "man my feet are killing me" alec is the one who help him off his heels and maybe even give him a lil massage just because he's Like That, and magnus is a little moved by the way he just... seems so attentive to him and willing to take care of him, you know? even when he's offstage and back to being just.... good ol' magnus

well i wouldn’t really call them repressed, especially canon alec (@tothetrashwhereibelong explained this excellently but i have no idea where dlkfgjdlkfgj stress) but like it’s still an interesting idea, alec seeing his boyfriend (or a version of him) that’s used to being more like… confident (seeming, at least) and open and colorful, and seeing him like. more “shy” and soft and withdrawn, and like. yeah on one hand he’s absolutely precious and he looks beautiful and cute and like, any magnus is a magnus alec loves, but you know, it’s just strange. 

as for twi magnus meeting canon alec, it kind of hurts to see his so open and confident boyfriend if he’d been raised in an abusive warrior culture, clearly closed off in a way he’s not used to, but like–also it’s so good to see even in this world, even with alec seeming more grumpy than he’s used to and wearing more black and reserved colors and shit, he’s still clearly so happy with his magnus, he clearly is in love with him, and like. he’s… more open? little peeks of that alec he knows in there? if that makes sense? i feel like it’s hard to put to words how they’re not different people but different reflections of the same person you know 

and like both of them kind of get to see that like you know in multiple universes they’re together

twi magnus wonders what he would have been like if he hadn’t been put in this isolated world–if demons still existed, and downworld culture was still much more coherent, and if his… his beautiful, wonderful, silly and confident mundane boyfriend had been raised a soldier from such a young age, you know? like just that world as a concept is kind of mindblowing 

and canon alec kinda wonders at what would have happened if he’d never been raised a shadowhunter, if he’d met magnus so much more reserved and still fallen in love with him, had been the one to chase him instead–

idk, it’s interesting, but i can’t put a lot of my thoughts with it quite to worsd lkdfgjdfg
