Our community member @alanwakemeup asked about Kerry's tattoos and we compiled some lore for you, so get ready ✨

His tattoos show the many phases of his turbulent lifestyle.

Drugs, fire, booze, running up his arm, a date he can't get out his head, attempts to turn his life around and reconnect with his heritage with the lines becoming more traditional and calm, running down his chest.

In more detail:

2023 is the day of Johnny's death, and it is combined with a hidden symbol of mikoshi, a cherub waving an anahaw (the national leaf of the Philippines): This symbolizes Kerry reconnecting with his roots and starting over after Johnny's death

On his shoulder, Kerry is sporting his solo album cover art

Upwards from the wrist are his favorite brands of booze and some ~ substances ~ in a big swirl, showing his complicated relationship with them. There's also a sneaky V shape around the mikoshi symbol, a nod to V.

The sleeve extends to his chest and follows more traditional filipino tribal tattoo work, which serves as protection and again shows Kerry reconnecting with his roots

His other sleeve is mainly decorative but again sticks to the shape of a V

I know this is for giggles, but like….I love the dialogue in this sidequest. I’m not one to pit ships against each other (especially considering it seems as though Aerith supports Cloud and Tifa all the way), but I think Costa Del Sol/Corel region has an interesting approach to Cloud and Aerith and Tifa.

Cloud’s VA said in promo material for Rebirth that Cloud shows different sides to himself depending on who he talks to—the vulnerability he shows with Barrett isn’t the same he shows with Tifa, and so on.

The date where Aerith and Cloud have to collect shells, Aerith is constantly ribbing Cloud, trying to get him to act like they’re on a date. She pokes, and prods, and teases, even though Cloud repeatedly says he isn’t a romantic person. When she makes a joke about spontaneously combusting, he isn’t sure whether or not she’s joking—he’s letting down his guard as a “tough bodyguard who’s too cool for this shit” just long enough to show genuine gullibility…and Aerith immediately pounces. I’d argue she even teases too far, because she ends up apologizing. (Cloud’s more insecure than his “I’m so cool and tough” persona led her to believe).

But then you have the quest with Tifa, and the chemistry is way different. They use the time to catch up, reminisce, and learn about each other. Cloud is impressed that Tifa planned all the menus at Seventh Heaven, and he even laments he never tried more food there (Bro, you were in Sector 7 all of like 3 days before it got crushed, and 1 of those days was spent brushing shingles off your clothes from where you crashed through a roof. When did you think you’d have the time?!?) She asks him about SOLDIER life, and he answers her honestly. They even talk about their parents’ cooking and how neither of them like crab. Growing up near a rocky coast, I’m sure crab was pretty popular. The vulnerability Cloud shows here is that he feels comfortable enough to be himself. To think on the past (that he can remember) and talk about it. He doesn’t have to be tough, or cool, or a bodyguard who is way too cool for this shit. He can be Cloud Strife, from Nibelheim, who has trouble talking to people and misses home cooked meals.

And like, damn. This game really succeeded in getting me to adore the character moments. I mean, I just wrote a whole novel about LIKING CRAB.
