I see a lot of arguments on social media try to appeal to morality when making a case against ChatGPT, and I’m sure that works for some people, but the vast majority of ChatGPT users dgaf.

It’s “what about the planet” to the people who refill their Stanley cups with several plastic water bottles everyday.

It’s “what about academic/intellectual integrity” to the people who would’ve plagiarized or paid someone else to write their papers anyway

It’s “what about the joy of learning and working hard to refine your knowledge and creativity” to the people who are burnout from working and see writing essays as pointless busywork.

It’s “AI writing looks bad/choppy/robotic/soulless” to the people who don’t fucking read and haven’t used a semicolon a day in their life

Like wake up already yall. If you’re not offering to write their essays or fulfill whatever task they use AI for and if you’re not doing it for free, then these arguments are not going to reach the people who are abusing ChatGPT every day.

With the way things are going, I think the only real solution at this point is to have legislation because the people can’t be trusted. The same way food companies are required to put nutrition facts and label the ingredients, there should be some type of code that requires all AI generated content to state that AI was being used in the production of it.

One of the biggest advantages of AI , especially when writing papers, is how genuine it can look to those without a discerning eye. Take that away and even if people use AI, at least we can divide it into authentic work vs inauthentic work.

Yesterday, Nader @abdalsalam2000 witnessed three people martyred and multiple injured from an explosion in his displacement site in Gaza. You can read his description of what happened in more detail in his post here. It’s not the first time, and it unfortunately most likely won’t be the last time he has to see something like this. This is the reality of his life in Gaza under the occupation. No one should have to experience this, and especially not a seventeen year old. Nader has lost many relatives and his home in the past one and a half years, and has been displaced more than ten times. All of this at only seventeen years old.

He is raising money to support his family of eight, which includes one year old Iman and his father Ahmed who has cancer. It’s very urgent to get Ahmed the healthcare he needs and evacuate as soon as the border opens, especially because he hasn’t had access to treatment for a long time because of the destruction of the healthcare system. Food is also extremely expensive in Gaza now.
