A few months ago, I took a bike and rode from Boca Raton to Jacksonville, then Richmond to Philadelphia. I wrote an album from the experience and today it is out in the world. I'm grateful for all the people that let me chat with them about their experiences living in this country. It was through those moments that this album came to be in the first place, and I couldn't be more grateful. Thank you everyone and I hope you enjoy the listen.

Released Friday, October 6, America Circa is Big Brutus’ third full-length album, although it’s the second album to arrive in 2017 bearing the project’s name. The album falls on the heels of The Odd Willow, released in March, and finds singer, songwriter, and guitarist Sean Bryant’s storytelling and conceptual approach growing by leaps and bounds. Each of the album’s 10 songs are inspired by the people and the stories that Bryant encountered this year while trekking across the country on a bicycle tour, armed only with an acoustic guitar. Part of America Circa’s beauty lies in the quiet candor in Bryant’s voice, mirrored by deceptively minimal arrangements and bold imagery. As the song “Consumer Machine” moves from a simmering whisper to a cacophonous brass roar, the album reaches its stride, opening a window into the psyche of modern America, where acute mental stimulation and espousing one's social and personal politics in fiery terms is the order of the day.

'Consumer Machine' is the first single off of Big Brutus' new album, 'America Circa', releasing October 6th on Paper Garden Records. Sean Bryant (Big Brutus) wrote 'America Circa' while biking up the East Coast in the Spring of 2017 and raising money for the International Rescue Committee. The album strays from the familiar themes found on his previous albums - themes of love, loss, death, and pursuit of fulfillment - and, instead, calls out and dives into the racism, oppression, and political corruption rampant in America today. Big Brutus has written an important, self-aware album about what it means to live and love in this country, and calls the listener to address centuries of abuse.

“You’re the first person I’ve talked to in days,” said Sean Bryant.
The Atlanta-based musician, better known as Big Brutus, is biking along the East Coast from Boca Raton all the way to Manhattan. Alone.
I could hear the fatigue in his voice, masked by a genuine enthusiasm to share the stories behind his travels. On the day we spoke, he had been on the road since 10:30 a.m. and had biked a total of 380 miles since the start of his trip. He will bike around 1,200 more....

this show was one of the first shows I’ve seen this year that gave me that “concert high” that makes live music so addicting

Big Brutus is so dreamy and plays gorgeous folk-inspired music with a dash of glitchyness and bit of a southern twang, but as soft and delicate as can be, you’ll be floating on air by the time he’s done with you

Across 11 tracks shimmering with folksy guitar riffs and ambient softness, Bryant works through his ongoing obsession with mortality, shifting from feelings of wonder and appreciation to isolation and resignation
