She told me who has it.
And when she told me, I was all like, you know I have to tell him this now, right? And she was like no, but the surprise– it’s not worth it, I wouldn’t want to jeopardize what we have, Doc.
He let out a whistle as he exhaled, cracking his knuckles.
Bdubs took it.
And he leans a bit closer.
He did it as a joke, just ‘cause he knew he was going to be able to get away with it. I mean, come on, do you really think he’s been asleep all this time? I’ll tell you this much, he’s wide awake during our death games. The man’s got it in him if he needs to stay up.
A chuckle.
Ah, Clair’s gonna be so mad I told you, but it feels– it feels nice, y’know? Getting this off my chest.
Another day, another mad grind to get this cave hollowed out.
Doc had assumed in the early phases that he wouldn’t be using any TNT for this job. This assumption, of course, couldn’t be further from the truth. As the hours ticked by– not that he’d know, being lodged underground without a communicator or any means of keeping time– something surfaced within him. Instinct? Passion? Whatever it was, it saw clusters of perfectly explodable stone and sought to have it blown up.
Well, it’s not like this part of the cave needs any precise terraforming.
The thing about TNT is that nobody ever packs enough of it. He used up his supply in minutes. A showing as fantastic as that one deserved a sequel. Surely.
So, Doc heads to his wireless receiver and sets the address to the hourglass. A press of a button, and he’s home.
…
…Except he’s not home.
He’s still here.

Clair actually told me something.
Stopping in his tracks, BigB rests his hands at his side.
And, y’know, maybe this is why they haven’t snitched to me, but I was all like, Clair, I can’t keep this from him, he’s my friend– we’re friends, right?
He elected to take Doc’s complete lack of a response as a yes.
Yeah, when push comes to shove, we’re pals at the end of the day, you and I, that’s what I like about us. And sure, maybe you clocked me. I wasn’t totally honest about my intentions, I was going to go out of my way to find you eventually. But no one snitched, it’s just a complete coincidence I ended up here. You gotta trust me, man.

…nobody’s snitching on you, dude.
No response.
In all fairness, if a Watcher wanted to snitch, they’d come to me, I would hope. So I guess I can’t really blame you. It’s just that they haven’t, ‘s all.
BigB smiled.
You remember Clair, right? Yeah, she watched me back in 2013, that was my prime time.

Try me.
Without looking back, he wanders over to the entrance. A beam of warm light radiates off his mining helmet. In one hand, he’s holding a pickaxe, in the other, a cookie.

I don’t know what you’re talking about.
BigB points to a particularly long tunnel.
You can see where I came in from, this is just some honest to goodness strip mining. I needed coal. And iron. Mumbo’s not been stocking very well, you know. Would I lie about this?

Nobody snitched, I just mined here. Been getting super into strip mining lately. Didn’t expect to see you here though, so that’s fun.
Pocketing his cookie, BigB whistles.
Mighty fine cave you got here.

Welp, I am, what’re you gonna do about it?
A shrug. A laugh.
Don’t answer that, I’d prob’ly get scarred for life just hearing it.
He extends out a hand, offering the lad a cookie.

A crunch was heard on the other side of the cave. Cookie crumbs fell to the floor.
…you okay there, buddy?

Something’s scribbled down on paper.
Illux you say… that’s two L’s right? Yeah, two L’s. I’ll keep that name in mind, congratulate her for you. Assuming she’s still on the server and all. ‘Cause if she’s a virus, there’s no guarantee she’ll stay here, the admin here… Mizusa, was it? Mizusa might get an antivirus and patch the mailbox thing that let me get past the whitelist.
BigB’s eyes dart to Clair.
Wow, that’d suck, actually. Not being able to come back here– I like it here.
He hesitates a bit before blurting it out.
D’you think you’ll be able to get me in next season? For my favor.
There’s a rustling of leaves nearby. Something is drawing near.
Common animals are a rare sight in the gardens, but it’s not unheard of. Wouldn’t be all that unreasonable to assume the source of the pitter-patter was a chicken who got lost.
But this isn’t a chicken.
It draws closer.
And it starts to hiss.
@voyant-clair
What the–
–eEAAAAAAAAAAA–!
And it doesn’t explode. BigB lowers his shield, opening his eyes
Oh!
A nervous laugh.
You got me good, Clair! Heart’s racing right now, nearly jumped out of my skin.

Y’know, I wasn’t that interested in the, uh, the deetz on Martyn’s weird death message before, but like…
He makes a motion with his arms.
Now you’ve got me all curious! You can’t just leave a man in suspense like this, Doc’s involving other folks? Give me names, give me names.

BigB nods sagely.
Always something with those two, isn’t there. Guess that explains the death message.
He pulls out a communicator and points to Martyn’s distorted message.
Int?-£Lnht55)£&&:trlewood was slain by using ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀.
So, Doc’s just glitching people now… no wonder you guys haven’t brought him to the death games.

Ah, that’s awesome! So happy for you! And yeah, I’m doing fine. Been gardening.
An eyeblossom is retrieved out of his inventory, then placed back in.
So, who’d you snack on?

His eyes start to shimmer with pride, glowing a marmalade orange.
D’aww, thanks Clair, you’re the best. It’s nice to feel appreciated from time to time. Here you are, writing entire poems about me on the spot, you’re just as deserving of those “commends” as we are!
One blink, and the glow subsides.
‘Nyways, what’s up? Everything cool with you?

His joints creak as they lose their stiffness.
What are you, like, a food critic now? Ha, goodness me. Here’s to hoping I get five stars, then.
BigB mimes clinking a glass of wine.
