Hey, should cis asexual people be allowed in the LGBT community? I don’t think so, but I’m open to discussion

Well, the term “cis” is an abbreviation of “cisgender” meaning someone who identifies with the gender they were assigned at birth. So you are stating that you don’t think that non-transgender individuals who are asexual should be allowed to be a part of the LGBT+ community.

However, notice how it’s L-G-B-T community, not just T. There are plenty of gay, lesbian, and bisexual cisgender people in the world and they are a major part of the LBGT+ community. Seeing as you haven’t brought up their eligibility it seems as if this comment is discriminating against asexual people, not promoting the recognition of the transgender community.

Furthermore, this comment is merely a reflection of how society treats asexuals. I’d call it “acephobic” but, much like homo”phobia” and trans”phobia”, it does not seem to stem from a place of unnatural fear but instead that of a distaste or even hatred of others’ differences… the very ideas that have spurred the LGBT+ community to band together against such opposition.

There are many cisgender and transgender asexuals in the world. It is apparent to all that trans individuals tend to have a harder time in our societies, especially if they do not “pass” as well as society would like, even though, of course, they should never have to.

However, my interpretation is that the LGBT+ community is for any and all people that are discriminated against because of their sexuality and/or gender. Asexual people experience discrimination and it seems hypocritical to exclude them just because their experiences aren’t identical to your own, regardless of their cis/trans status. If you are coming from a place of who has it hardest? then you would need to exclude all LGBT+ people that are white, male, rich, or have any of other distinct privilege. That’s not what it’s about and you know it.
