Haven't been on here in forever. Last couple of years was a Rollercoaster ride. Finally settled with insurance on my car accident and spine injury.
Last January, I shattered my leg walking on flat ground , due to insurance denying the fusing of my ankle a few years back. Required reconstruction.
This year I closed on a 62 acre farm in Missouri near the Mark Twain National Forrest.

Have a bunch of cool rocks I'm going to post that I purchased at a pow wow. My best friend is Mashantuckett Pequot and his tribe land was an amazing trip. Took him home for the green corn festival. Here a couple of the buys and some displays of turquoise and wampum jewelry from the pow wow.

When my leg exploded, it went 180° backwards and now has even more paralysis, but the scar tissue and titanium from the surgery has actually given me some stability back.
I have to get this farm built and accessible before the leg explodes again or quits working all together.
But things have started turning for the better in general thanks to the pile of money they owed us for parking a fuel tanker on the Jeep.
I guess I'd trade 3 of my lumbar discs for a farm. Not that I got a choice...

Also found these handmade Damascus knives from a native craftsman at a recent gun and knife show. Couldn't pass on them , too pretty, well built too.

People use wheelchairs for a lot of different reasons.
Some people use wheelchairs because they are paralyzed and completely unable to walk. That is not the only reason people use wheelchairs, and many wheelchair users have some ability to walk.
Here are some reasons some people who can walk use wheelchairs:
They can walk, but it’s very difficult and not an efficient way of getting around
Walking causes them severe pain
Walking is medically inadvisable because of the strain it would put on their heart
They have cognitive problems that make walking more difficult than wheeling
Falling causes them to break bones, and they are unsteady on their feet and fall easily
They can’t stand in place because they need to be moving to stay upright
They can walk some days but not others
If you see someone use a wheelchair sometimes and walk other times, don’t assume they don’t need their chair. If you see a wheelchair user stand up to reach something, don’t assume that they don’t need their chair.
People use wheelchairs for a lot of different reasons, and many people who can walk some absolutely depend on wheelchairs for mobility.
Disability is complicated, and personal. There are a lot of reasons that people use various types of adaptive equipment. (None of which are the business of strangers). Knowing one reason people use something doesn’t mean you know all the reasons, or that you are in a position to assume you know what’s going on with everyone you see using adaptive equipment.
tl;dr: Many wheelchair users can walk some. They still need their wheelchairs. Don’t assume that someone isn’t really disabled just because you see them walk or stand sometimes.

I attended a local event today, and spoke with staffers for senators Hatch and Lee about concerns over:
1. implementing Medicaid per-capita caps that will slash funding for disabled and low-income people to the tune of at least 880 billion dollars
2. switching to a continuous coverage policy that will punish sick people who are more likely than healthy peers to go 63 days without insurance, while simultaneously being desperate enough need healthcare to pay the 30% fee
3. cutting the essential health benefits requirement, which covers 1.3 million Americans with mental health disabilities who will be left without necessary care
these proposed measures, among many others, will cause out-of-pocket costs to soar and cause 24 million people to lose coverage by 2026–14 million of those NEXT YEAR.
these drastic financial cuts, and the massive number of Americans losing insurance will have unpredictable and dangerous consequences.
40% of people in the US have at least one chronic illness. 20% are disabled. so it stands to reason that at least 40% of those losing access to medical and psychiatric care will have health needs. they will be sick.
this is going to kill people.
yet, the senate staffers were mostly silent. they repeated the line “we look forward to a robust debate on the floor” a few times…
they told us that they know illness doesn’t discriminate between political party, and I reminded them that it doesn’t discriminate between tax bracket either.
I mentioned that a 64-year-old earning $26,000 per year is just as likely to get sick as a millionaire, yet she’s now paying half her income in premiums under the AHCA, while the millionaire is going to see that $13,000 in a tax cut.
they changed the subject.
