Rose Tyler listening to her mum talk about Pete and how he died as a kid, her listening to the pain Jackie can't disguise in those vulnerable moments, and deciding she wants to be there for Pete. She wants to do this thing for her mum. She'll go through something traumatic, change time and watch her father die in front of her to do this one thing for her mum because Jackie is all she's ever really had. The one constant in her life.
Do you think Rose recognised as a child how miserable her mum was? Not just with struggling with money but the fleeting boyfriends, the desperation for companionship and the talks about Pete, do you think she knew? Do you think her compassion is borne partially from not being able to help mend the hole in her mum's life but trying her best anyway?
