You don’t have to hate on Bree and Willie.
I’m not.
I am like Kal said, in a small group who are excited for the William arc. There is storyline later on in the books that he goes through, and it’s really exciting stuff. His story is one of self discovery and growth, and trying to find who he is as a person while accepting the history that made him. It’s interesting to see how his arc even allows other characters to grow. Jamie for one: doesn’t want to stare the end of gun and see his son on the other side. (Later during the American revolution when William is in the British army and Jamie is a revolutionary.) For Claire, it challenges her to learn how to love and accept him- he wasn’t planned and she didn’t give him to Jamie. She has to learn how to love and even help raise and guide William in some parts….He does wind up calling her ‘Mother Claire’ later in the series. I also love how William is Jamie Fraser incarnate. I love the scene in the canon where Jenny finds out William is Jamie’s, and he throws a grown up temper tantrum.
With Bree, it’s also still a road of self discovery. She’s accepting the choices her mother and Jamie made, while still trying to get over Frank’s death… All while falling in love herself, having a baby, and traveling back in time 200 years. She’s trying to learn who this ‘Jamie Fraser’ is, what he is like, his favorite foods, what makes hi laugh, all his quirks. She’s learning about the man who gave her life and who was willing to give his life so she was safe. There’s a bond that is just *there* because Jamie is her biological father and he loves her with every fiber in his being, but on her end I would argue that it is there, but with all she’s done and seen in her short life, it’s a hard reality for her to accept when she was so close to Fr*nk and doesn’t want to dishonor his memory.
I’m not hating on them, rather just the opposite. With the possibility of Jamie giving Claire the new ring, like I said I find it to be a renewal on the oath that Jamie and Claire made to each other all those years ago. They made it once and then fought through war and separation between time and centuries. Only to think they would never be reunited and then once again, they are… This time 20+ years later and having lived two separate lives. Now they’re once again given the opportunity for a life and all that comes with it, the good, the bad, and everything in between. Him giving her a new ring is a reminder on that oath they made once, that they plan to keep their entire lives. That whatever they face from here on out, they are alive and whole and together- and all that stems from their choice to get married. They have baggage, but are always on each other’s team.
I think the giving of a new ring will parallel the story arc that Jamie/Claire/William/Bree are all going to go through. My point is just without that first bow between Jamie and Claire, the other plot lines wouldn’t exist. 😘😊

The Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy

Choosing *this* particular nod to Claire and Murtagh’s shared past as the one to reunite them with was one of the best ideas an Outlander writer has ever had.
It’s not just a lovely memory.
That song, that melody stands for the experience that Claire and Murtagh bonded over. There had been closeness between them before, but their joint effort to find and save Jamie, the person they both loved and cherished the most, was what made them partners. True friends. Family. They became a part of each other during those weeks. That song defines the very bond between Murtagh and Claire, a bond that survived over 20 years.
By whistling the melody, Murtagh is greeting Claire as a part of him, in a secret code only they know how to decipher, since the memory only belongs to the two of them. It immediately brings the closeness back, bridges the gap of 20 years and two centuries.

I have nothing against Sophie and Rik nor Bree and Roger but…
who the heck thought that “the way Roger looked at Bree when she was opening his Christmas gift was the most swoon worthy moment they’ve ever seen on Outlander”?
I MEAN HAVE YOU WATCHED THE SHOW AT ALL?
I CAN NAME A DOZEN OTHER MOMENTS MORE SWOON WORTHY THAN THAT, EASILY…
I MEAN, ARE THESE TWEETS EVEN FOR REAL?

[13 Days of Outlander]    [2x07 | Faith]    [Favorite Script Scene | Time with Faith]    [“I lost a lifetime with someone that I loved before we ever met.”]
“I knew where the story was headed, and I knew that Toni was writing it, and Toni has such a beautiful, poetic way with her writing. I knew that it was going to be in very safe hands. So when I first got the script, I mean, I cried. I emailed Toni straight away, and I was just like, ‘This is so beautiful. You’ve made me cry like a baby.’ I loved how Toni handled it. It was in such a respectful way, and such a beautiful way, and I think it’s such a defining moment in Claire’s life and for her character, that in a way, you just relish these moments as an actor to be able to go through this journey with the character…
We stuck very much to the script, and very much to what was on the page. The writing was so beautiful for this… Even the little thing about the song when she sings to the baby — when you read it in the script first, it seems like such a jarring song to use in that moment. But actually, the more work I did on it, I just thought it was even more heartbreaking, because here was something that I felt that Claire probably heard from her mother. You know, it’s this lineage of tragedy that surrounds Claire, in a way, having lost her parents so young, and everything that’s happened to her, it all just felt very powerful.” ~ Caitriona Balfe for Variety
“When I wrote it I said to her, ‘This one’s for you,’ and I knew that she would knock it out of the park. I knew that she would elevate it even better than what it was. And the original draft had a ton of voiceover because we try to use voiceover sparingly but she was alone in so much of this script that we needed to use the voiceover to portray what she was thinking, but… everything played on her face. You knew what she was thinking, you didn’t need to hear her voice. She did a phenomenal job and I really hope that she is rewarded for that, because there is no actress that can touch her, just no contest.” ~ Toni Graphia for Variety

REALITY CHECK
The Outlander saga is a series of novels based on history, romance and time travel. They are fictional in nature as are ALL of the characters, including James Fraser. Repeated trips to Scotland, while wondrous in nature, will not make you Scottish. Touching every standing stone in Scotland will not make you Claire or send you your own personal Jamie. Use of Gaelic language in screen names,or your given name plus Fraser just makes you look thirsty. Sam and Cait are the actors who play our favorite fictional characters. They are fallible human beings who make mistakes, not angels who have fallen from the sky. If you are willing to ignore things they do that you would find unacceptable from anyone else, simply because they play Jamie and Claire, you might have a problem. It’s not for any fan to decide if another is allowed to be upset with them for cancellation of Conventions, lost money, etc., or if a fan is allowed to express that disappointment. They are adults nearing 40, who are capable of defending themselves. If your personal happiness and contentment is tied to whether two celebrities are never criticized, or you are worried that they will leave SM or the show, you need to worry about yourself. It’s a television show. Get a grip.
I am past the point of caring who gets offended or unfollows. My kids wouldn’t be allowed to get away with this crap and I am not going to hold my tongue because some woman somewhere thinks that she won’t survive without daily gym posts on IG.

casual intimacy kills me every time. grand gestures are cute and all but seeing two people who are just totally comfortable with having each other in their space, who dont think twice about leaning into each other and thoughtlessly holding each other while doing unrelated things….. thats love

And talking about important men in Caits life, her dad (a big guy BTW) besides being a garda officer was an amateur actor with whom Cait used to perform as a child...
She loves so much her dad! I find so funny how she was teasing Sam after they talked about her parents watching the show, Sam was so happy to say they came on set and she added “his handshake would crash any man, I think he nearly broke Graham Mc Tavish’s hand, Sam… he just takes it and crush, no one forgot that visit" and Sam was soooo cute because he replied in a sweet way “I wonder so so I went in there very strong" and she said firmly “he’s a big man”. I can read this story only in one way, the dad that meet the boyfriend of his lovely younger daughter and hopes he will treats her well or he will crush him and Sam had the typical anxiety of the boyfriend who meets the father of his girlfriend and hope to give him a good image because he loves her so much, and he’s also embarassed because he knows her father has seen the love scenes. Imagine how funny was the first time he’s gone to her hometown to visit her parents, Sam is so respectful that I imagine him blushing and freeze if Caitriona became too cozy with him in front of her parents 😂 I also think her dad is a big sweet man as Sam who has raised seven children with his wife.

Would you rather never have whiskey or sex again?
C: never have whiskey again S: eeeeehm… C: you’re doing something wrong if that’s such a struggle, seriously S: no, I’m just thinking but if you’ve got whiskey then you’ll probably end having sex anyway so… no? if you drink enough of it, you’ll probably end up… I don’t know. That’s a really, that’s an unfair question. The two go hand in hand. C: *giggle* yeah they’re a good combo
-VH1 2014
Who can drink everyone else under the table and who is…
*Sam and the others point Caitriona*
C: I usually need help standing up after  S: Her legs completely go but the rest of her body is fine
-92Y 2014
Have you guys actually watched the wedding episode? Did you watch it, because sometimes actors don’t watch.
*awkward silence*
C: Is it weird?  S: Is it weird to say that we watched it together? C: So weird  S: Uuhm with a bottle of wine, a couple bottles of wine actually yeah.  S: We were like, we’ve gotta watch this C: I mean yeah, very we yeah *mumbling and blushing*  S: Yeah and we kind of enjoyed it, but we were quite drunk C: That’s weird but anyway
-Access Hollywood 2014
“One of the fun things even known I absolutely dreaded it was turtle soup just ‘cause it’s kind of ridiculous and fun to do something drunk. And Sam was sort of telling me it was a little too close to home. *giggles* He’s seen me after a few drinks ehm… but no… it was… it was… not, not the rest of the stuff, I mean, just the drunk Caitriona.”
- Caitriona Gold Derby interview 2018
