     It hadn’t been a good day for Chihiro. But then, when was it, really? The whole world was in ruins, so many of his friends were dead, and the leaders of the group who were supposed to be fixing things were so obtuse and never listened to reason - but that was neither here nor there. It just left Chihiro angry, but more than that, feeling helpless. Weak. So much time had passed, he’d worked so hard, but he was still the same at the end of the day. He still wasn’t strong enough.

     He’d lost himself in thought. Makoto had asked him to look into the Warriors, and vouch for them if he could; Chihiro was well-liked, even in the Foundation, but he still couldn’t convince them to be more lenient. To give them a little freedom. They were children, not monsters - even if they had done horrid things, Chihiro couldn’t find it in himself to condemn them completely. They were kids, misguided kids carrying so much trauma and fear. They’d endured so much pain. He could scarcely imagine what it must have taken to push them so far they believed genocide was the only way to find peace. He just wished he could help them understand, but in their eyes, he was an adult. No better than the ones who hurt them. Before he knew it, he found he’d wandered to their section of the facility - an area they were allowed into together during the day. They’d be getting escorted back to their rooms soon, but...maybe there was something he could do while here, even if it was just to let them stay up together a little longer.

     Chihiro wandered over to the man watching them, asking if he could take over for him. The man nodded, content to get away from ‘babysitting duty’; he left Chihiro to handle the Warriors. Given he’d never dealt with them directly, he highly doubted any of them would recognize him. Maybe it’d make things easier? In any case, he didn’t intend on sending them to bed early like some would. He just...couldn’t bring himself to do anything mean. But then, he never could. He didn’t have it in him. He was soft. Even Mondo thought so. But maybe he could use that to be of more help, this time.

     It’d taken Chihiro a while to work up the courage to actually approach Tanaka. He frightened him, and not just a little; he found Gundham immensely intimidating. But then, hadn’t he thought the same of Mondo at first? He’d spent some time after class psyching himself up to approach the animal lover, hoping it wouldn’t go too terribly; he was rather hoping to make a new friend. Fortunately, Taka was in the process of teaching him to be a little more confident, so he was able to work up the courage needed to go say hello!

     He’d had such high hopes, too! Their class seemed so interesting, there was even someone impersonating Togami! Who...oddly enough was really nice, supposedly. Most of the class seemed really cool! So it was with a light heart (and only mild anxiety) that Chihiro located Gundham during a free period and went to greet him.

     And that was when it went wrong. Chihiro spotted those four fluffy, adorable hamsters and let out a squeal of utter delight.

     “You have hamsters! What are their names, are they friendly? Oh, they’re so cute!”

     When it came to asking advice about confidence, Chihiro found it difficult to think of anyone who might be better to ask than Mioda. Ibuki was always so free-spirited, so happy, she never seemed to have a care in the world! Chihiro kind of admired her for it, even if her music could be...a little obnoxious. But even then, it wasn’t as if he could say anything on that front. His best friends were the most unapologetically loud students in his class. Chihiro couldn’t really count the number of times he’d woken up in the middle of the night to hear Mondo and Taka yelling enthusiastically at each other from their doors. And it was often followed by Byakuya making threats, which prompted more yelling. Chihiro couldn’t even say he disliked it, Mondo and Taka’s antics were so entertaining! They kept things lighthearted.

     But Ibuki was a whole other beast compared to them. Her endless enthusiasm made Chihiro wonder if this was really the right choice; would he even be able to get the sentence out? Would she just drag him into karaoke before he could even speak? Force him to join a band, entrap him as a heavy metal player?!

     No, those anxieties were stupid. Even he knew it. Chihiro shook his head, trying not to laugh at himself for being so silly. Ibuki was nice! Or, so he’d heard. She wouldn’t do anything that outrageous. Right? Ridding the hesitation from his mind, he approached the musician in the hall, smiling sheepishly.

     “U-um, Mioda-san? I was wondering- I-I mean, do you have a moment..?”
