hi! i was wondering if you could identify my cat's color. my best guess is she's a ticked tabby with dilute red, black, and white coloring? but i don't know. i've just never seen any other cat with her colors and pattern!

(and also wondering if she's a shorthair or not? is the distinction between shorthair/longhair actually moreso a spectrum? because she certainly has longer fur than most shorthairs. but idk maybe people just trim their cats fur a lot? or it's treated as a false dichotomy. idk i know nothing but cat genetics but am fascinated to learn)

She’s a beautiful blue tortoiseshell tabby, her patterning isn’t distinct enough for me to confidently assess what type of tabby beyond probably not classic. I can’t tell if she has any white based on these pictures, the white on her muzzle is due to her tabby patterning and isn’t true white spotting and I can’t tell if her paw is white or just light cream.

She is a Domestic Shorthair, which have tremendous variation in coat type. They’re random-bred with no breed lineage, pairs aren’t selected with a standard in mind to adhere to so you wind up with traits all over the place. Some shorthair cats will have a very thick, dense coat and some will have a more trim, coarse coat and so forth. The same goes for their longhair equivalents.

My guy is a shorthair but has a very thick coat and fluffy toes!

I’ve noticed an interesting trend with my friends irl and I want to see how much it applies to my reach on tumblr:

A lot of my friends are on the autism spectrum and are also transgender / non-binary / some form of genderqueer. A seemingly disproportionate amount of them have names that are exactly 3 letters long.

(Interestingly, this trend seems consistent among my friends regardless of whether they still use their given name, shortened it to a nickname, or chose an entirely new name for themselves.)

Clarifications, for the sake of this poll:

Non-binary people, and anyone who does not fit into the cisgender binary, count as trans.

Self-diagnosed autism counts as autism.
