thinking about that time I told racist white people to stop doing microagressions towards black people and some dipshit cracker got so mad at me they started cry-typing about how if black people were nicer to white people they wouldn't be racist. and then that person said the same thing to me when they block evaded.

The way Sinners (2025) and Bring It On (2000) are both movies that's main plot is non Black Americans invading and appropriating
The Juke Joint and the Clovers cheerleading team wanted to uplift their communities only for somebody white to ruin the vibes
Sammie and Isis prevailed in the end of their movies with their talent finally being recognized, Sammie became a big time blues man and Isis's team won the cheer competition
Crazy these movies 25 years apart

For all the white and non Black people who keep asking:
"'But how am I supposed to educate myself as a white/non Black person if you don't let me follow???'
You can look at various articles, essays and other written text made by Black asexuals instead of forcing yourself into a space for Black people and forcing us to cater to you for your own convienience. I've recommended various Black asexual theorists, activists and writers plus a masterpost of basic asexual theory, including basic Black asexual theory AND I run a history and culture blog called @stemmehistorian which is filled with academia and text from Black activists of all labels, including Black asexual theory under it's #Black asexual tag. This is a space for Black asexuals to chill, not an anti-racism page for white people. Don't ever blame your antiblackness on me as a Black person not doing enough to serve you as a white/non Black person. FOH!"
If you as a white/non Black asexual or white/non Black non asexual then you don't need to go to Black people's spaces, you need to read.
Now stop asking me this shit.

In general, Sinners has great cinematography, but I think this tracking shot that follows Lisa Chow across the street from her parent's Black storefront to their White storefront is one of my favorites:
Tumblr media
Look at how it immediately establishes the rules of the movie's setting.
This is Jim Crow Mississippi where Black and White residents essentially live in different worlds. The continuous take forces us (the audience) to experience that segregation in real time as we walk behind Lisa crossing the street. There are no cuts or edits to interrupt the discomfort of having to witness all those visual reminders of racism against Black Americans.
I think it's also significant that it's Lisa, an Asian American woman, who the camera follows. As someone who exists outside the Black-White racial binary, she’s able to traverse these two worlds but the bright red of her shirt still demarcates her as a conspicuous outsider amidst all the blue and brown on both sides, representing the uniquely precarious position of Asians in the U.S.’s racial hierarchy.

Tamir Rice should be celebrating his 23rd birthday today.
Instead, his life was stolen at just 12 years old when he was killed by an Ohio police officer.
We are thinking of you today and always, Tamir. Sending so much love to your family. 🤍

>Predominately Black led piece of media becomes popular.
>Among the characters there are one or two White characters with minor and/or distinctly antagonistic roles.
>White tumblr users focus entirely on said White characters.

WHY I WILL NEVER NOT BE ANGRY THAT A WHITE NATIONALIST NEWS CONGLOMERATE CONSPIRED TO CANCEL WGN's UNDERGROUND....
Tumblr media
So, here is a another piece of media that you can see the beginnings of some of the DNA that SINNERS used.. UNDERGROUND... Which ran for two seasons on WGN starting in 2016. -For those who missed it, it was a two season banger of a show about escaping enslavement rendered like an action-drama heist story, of enslaved people planning to steal themselves away. It was compelling, unflinching in showing realistic moral complexity and IMO, in one of the most underrated aspects.... IT FINALLY got rendering white allies in that CORRECTLY, both in the personal risk, and the journey to the place where they would risk their lives for that cause and TBH, THAT I think may have been what that alt-right news corporation feared the most, when they deliberately got this show cancelled.
Tumblr media
I'm not kidding. This was the first media target, before Colbert. Sinclair Media (yes, the same Sinclair who owns multiple local news stations and went viral because someone synced up the Big Brother-esque script they were all required to read) planned to "buy" WGN and staged an illegal contract, requiring WGN to cancel all of it's scripted shows for a multi-billion buy-out. You know, how I know it was staged??? Because after a court of law found flaws in the contract, Sinclair did NOT resume trying to "buy" WGN.
Tumblr media
WGN, had already cancelled all of it's shows... including UNDERGROUND... Which, for context, scored ratings 1600% higher than the network typically got. So, that show was set to go on for a good while. Instead, we got two amazing seasons. This show also gave us the BEST onscreen rendering of Harriet Tubman, by Aisha Hinds
Tumblr media
...and gave us Amirah Vann in the first place, who had been purely a stage actor until who gave A LIFECHANGING performance as Ernestine or "'Stine".
Tumblr media
Who you now also know as Sevika on ARCANE...
Tumblr media
We also had Aldis Hodge, Jurnee Smollett, Alano Miller (who should have become a star based on the AMAZINGLY complex charismatic gray villain he played, as Cato)...
Tumblr media
...and his real-life wife DeWanda Wise.
Some of the ABSOLUTE best episodes of the show and IMO TV in general came from UNDERGROUND. Season 1's CRADLE, Season 2's opening ep, and ACHE are MASTERPIECES. PERIOD.
And don't forget it was so good they even got Miss Bassett to come show-out for an ep:
Tumblr media
I REFUSE TO LET THIS SHOW BE FORGOTTEN. I REFUSE!!! Misha Green did a very hard thing, and that is render a ~traumatic~ aspect of American History in a way that doesn't make victims of the subjects, but renders a morally complex picture of how and why it happened while.... yep, making it a compelling (and yes), entertaining watch. UNDERGROUND is on HULU and sometimes is on TUBITV for free. If you haven't seen it? Give it a watch.
