Yeah, and they are wrong. Personally, I think Riot tried to go more for a "model citizen" narrative: native from Piltover, academic genius, earned a patronage from a very important family at a young age, Piltover's meritocracy propaganda at its best (in the Arcane version is implied that, although he has a House Name, is more like a "oh yeah, his family is white collar, not super rich". He still needs the Patronage to afford his studies. In the speech scene, his mother is sitting alongside the Kiramman and wearing THEIR colors, not the red and white from the Talis. I wonder how much their influence over the Talis house is)

I wish future LoL stories would focus more about how much he hates his Patreons because They Dont Get It.

NGL I half struggle to refer to his arcane family as white collar to begin with, they are repeatedly referred to as 'a lower house' or the Guys That Did Hammers and Collapsable Wrenches. (note: Clans are way bigger than Houses, and Lower House has a particular bottom tier ring to it) Jayce's childhood bedroom is a vertical strip squeezed against the wall and even after the timeskip it doesn't change a single bit. Doesn't really feel like a clean management position. The Talises have always seemed to me like a forgeworker / immigrant household whose manual services have fallen into irrelevance with the consolidation of industry. Jayce and his mother defer to the Kirammans (who basically command whole swatches of commerce,) bc they probably wouldn't be able to find enough work to live on otherwise. Jayce still seems very proud of how his father was a builder, tho, so its likely the wreck & ruin process started as soon as he died and went rapidly downhill from there. This goes solidly under blue collar to me.

For League in specific I think its even more interesting how Jayce doesn't have a family at all. He is described as "a native son of Piltover," like the city itself has birthed him out of a clean tube, tied to nothing and nobody in particular. This may seem like an inoffensive detail at first, but Jayce is the *only* piltover champ with No Mention of parentage or family, save for the fucking yordle. Camille, ezreal, orianna, caitlyn, etc- they all have family ties and sometimes extensive backstories tied to them. Zaun champs are not usually made this way either, we know plenty about renata's family, that ekko and zeri have one, the exact job and legacy of viktor's.

Jayce in another hand is defined by a slate of early work as a 'prodigy' and immediately contracted into the service of clan Giopara as the Youngest Apprenta They Ever Took. He is a job first, learning to be a person second. (And this makes complete sense with the theming vkjc are going for, man without past meets man without future; jayce is the perfect posterchild of the nameless manufacturing masses - a good pair of hands delivering above standard work with no excessive demands in relation to realistic personhood. Industry wants to define the worker partly as product. Of course this guy is the perfect propaganda piece, he has literally nothing else going for him outside of a fat portfolio lmao)

What's more, once you understand that jayce is by definition the "troublesome worker whose brain needs to be dealt with to ensure successful results" or in the case of viktors first bio; "guy who could stand having his brain scrubbed a little to ensure a smoother society," his immediate opposition to Viktor's entire industrialization pitch falls into place, imo. Hearing "oh im just going to dose this suit pilot so he does exactly as I say and never gets tired or freaks out, ever" is a lot more abysmal when you have been given orders your entire life and gotten chastized for barking back.

If only we were the gears, you know? We could be slightly better gears." & of course jayce goes WHAT the FUCK are you TALKING ABOUT

This is also what i meant when i said Jayce's pov is realistic & Viktor's idealistic; as much as "a world without human error!" Sounds good on paper, it has obvious and big glaring flaws. Not all idealism is good. Being realistic is a survival tactic necessary to not lose your brains when the world is obviously unjust. Like when a techbro says "thanks to facebook meta your entire biometrical information will be acessible through the google cloud, ensuring that every camera in the entire world knows who you are and your living record is accessible 24/7" SOMEONE should ask them where the fuck their mind is. just my 2cent tho

people are way too comfortable being dismissive of children and teenagers. if a toddler comes up to you and starts explaining skibidi toilet lore or if a 13 year old asks you if you want to hear about their mha ocs you have to listen with utmost sincerity or at least pretend to. this is the only way you will get into heaven.
