Rusun Pesakih Community Visit - #2
 4 - March - 2017
The community visit preserves a different concept compared to the other teaching visits we had.
In this visit, we assimilated the members from both the HOPE club as well as the volunteers from Rusun Pesakih. Each individual, regardless of being part of the club or as a volunteer from Saturday Academy would handle a group or a game post. Even though we have never worked together like this before, it is surprising how we were able to work in harmony and unity.
The race that we are responsible to host enhances the children’s collaborative and teamwork’s skills. This race would involve all the children from Rusun Pesakih within kindergarden up to grade 6. But before that, we had to measure the children’s height and weight to record their health and condition.
After we measured their heights and weights, we proceeded with the different games that were arranged prior to the visit by the HOPE club members. The games that were prepared all centers on teamwork as it enables all members to forge bonds, maximizes strengths and minimizes weaknesses, but most importantly builds a fun and exciting atmosphere within the children as well as volunteers.

Tanah Merah Community Visit
18 - February - 2017
It was raining once we arrived in Tanah Merah. But we all managed to come and teach the children. We all gathered to our respective groups and made sure to teach the children the materials that were prepared beforehand.
Different grades were assigned to different floors. The lower grades stayed on the first level whilst the older grades on the second floor. The atmospheres in the classes were very conducive and lively that it was nearly impossible not to interact with these children.
We were assigned to teach the children the language english. This language may seem like a foreign concept to them but it is quite astonishing how they are able to speak and learn in such a quick pace.
The two hours that we spent there was definitely unforgettable. The smiles and laughter shared during the session will forever be embedded within the roots of our hearts.

Rusun Pesakih Community Visit
21/01/2017
On the 21st of January 2017, the HOPE club members gathered early in the morning and went to Rusun Pesakih, ready to teach grades 1-4 students science. All of the members were divided to groups of 4 or 5. Beforehand, each group prepared their own materials. Some of which organized a small and simple science experiment that can be easily understood by the children.
When we arrived at Rusun Pesakih and began teaching, there were only six children. But after some time the number of students began to increase with more than 20 of them in total.
We began with a small introduction and proceeded with the first experiment. The experiment demonstrated how baking soda and vinegar is able to create a chemical reaction that would ultimately produce an inflated balloon. After this experiment was completed, we continued with the next science experiment. In here, the main purpose was to make slime out of PVA glue. The children seemed to be enjoying this activity so much that they decided to keep the slime. Some of them even made animals like cats along with some of the club members.
The last activity for the day was for the children to write down the different examples of solid, liquid and gas to their respective notebooks or paper that was handed out to them. In here, each of us handled a group of students so that they could all concentrate and learn new materials that might be useful for them. It was fun and enlightening to see all of them huddled in groups while writing and identifying the different matters.
At the end of the day, we handed out goody bags to the children. Each of them having a beam stretched across their faces. Little did they know that they changed and influenced our lives as much as we did to theirs.

BINUS Simprug’s HOPE elective club students went to Cilincing to visit the fisherman’s village and to teach children in HOPE’s Saturday Academy.
The villagers live by the sea and earn their income mainly by fishery. They are well known for catching green clams and making ‘ikan asin’, salty fish.
