It feels a bit like they just like the idea of violence against people they have decided are on the ‘wrong side of history’.. as long as it’s not THEM. Like they can keep themselves safe if they just wear the t-shirt and align themselves with enough violent ‘resistance’ movements. They won’t PARTICIPATE in the terrorism, but they imagine they’ll somehow be “safe” from it if they just choose the right side. As if they are not first and foremost AMERICANS to 99% of the world. It is as if they don’t understand that terrorism is bad because it is INDISCRIMINATE. A bomb is a bomb is a bomb. It’ll blow you up in your snazzy keffiyeh just as fast as it’ll blow up the ‘Zionist’ sitting next to you on the plane/train when it goes off. It’s all about killing random people, not targeting the ‘bad guys’.

“Globalizing the intifada” looks like their mom jumping out of the window of a 110 story building to escape the fire. It looks like their best friend being blown through the floor of a train. It looks like their little sister being abducted from school, held hostage and tortured. It looks like they themselves being chased down, stripped naked, tied to a tree, raped, mutilated and shot in the head at a music festival. (Say, Coachella or Glastonbury.)

I genuinely do not understand why they don’t see this.

For some reason they do not see (imagine) themselves at Le Bataclan or the Nova festival or walking around downtown Manhattan on a random Tuesday morning or using the tube in London. They don’t imagine themselves or their loved ones being the victims of the “intifada” they want so badly to “globalize”.

I think you hit it on the head tbh - they can imagine some glorious revolutionary freedom fighting and think it's exciting because it's not them and their families in the firing line. It's frighteningly easy for people to dismiss extreme violence when it's done to people who "deserve" it because they never ever think they might be put in that category themselves.
