Coming out of my cave to comment on this month’s Problematic Ship ™. The finale of the Umbrella Academy itself was SO disappointing but I didn’t 100% hate the whole Lila and Five thing. I hated the way that Five’s relationship with Diego was totally annihilated and his bond with the other siblings sidelined in favor of the love triangle subplot (that had no real conclusion or payoff anyway), BUT I don’t agree with a lot of folks saying that Five/Lila would never do that. A major point of the whole “lost in time” concept is that those kinds of circumstances would change anyone. That’s what makes it so intriguing! Perhaps that doesn’t come through so well with so few episodes, but Five at his core is a tired old man that has been lost in time and space twice and is desperate for connection (see Delores). Lila, in addition to being stuck for seven years, already felt trapped in her marriage and Five was representative of a life that she wished to return to. It’s not a huge leap for them to be drawn to each other.

Basically, it wasn’t them getting together that I didn’t like, but everything that came after.

Seeing a lot of people fuming/grieving over Huntlow being romantic bc it somehow undermines the importance of friendship and what not. Yes, men and women can just be friends, and yes, that should be portrayed in television. HOWEVER, speaking as someone who has felt romantically undesirable because of my weight since a very young age, the heavier girl who has learned to love herself the way she is getting the guy in the end is important too. Seeing that as a kid would have changed a lot for me, and I imagine others as well! Headcanons are totally valid and can be deeply personal, but going around insisting that Huntlow happening is problematic and damaging The Owl House is gross considering so many find it to be deeply personal too.

I absolutely adore Wednesday x Enid but the take that Tyler and Wednesday can’t end up together because it promotes toxic relationships is incredibly goofy bc like… we’re talking about Wednesday Addams?? The character that canonically tortures her little brother as a form of affection? The source material IS morbid so of course her relationship(s) would be toxic. She loves that shit!!

I ship both Steddie and Edissy because if you think teenagers only have a crush on one person you had a very different high school experience than me. Which is cool, but man, when I was a teenager I was in love with everyone, everywhere, all at once.
