saw someone criticizing the transfem werewolf metaphor and comparing it to how zootopia (badly) sets up predator vs prey as a race analogy and i feel like i should clarify
the transfem werewolf metaphor works because people assume werewolves will be predators to humans, when in reality, real wolves are just. not really all that dangerous to people
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and yeah you could argue that a lot of werewolf mythology involves them being violent but thats part of the metaphor! how many people do you think got their impression of trans women absolutely ruined by someone telling a story of some trans girl and calling her a child predator or a big scary man in the woman’s bathroom? because it’s quite a few!
the metaphor works because, much like werewolves, there’s really no reason to assume that trans women are dangerous to anyone else except what people (who have had their fear weaponized) say about them

did you really compare not liking incest fetishists with the lynching of Emmett Till or is that just a bullshit lie someone made up because it sounds too outlandish to be possibly true
this is what's known as reductio ad absurdum. I had a post talking about how the social ostracization campaigns against trans women for alleged sex crimes/pedojacketing/general "sexual degeneracy" shit are bad, and someone commented about how no real harm comes from these instances of harassment, so I replied with how "trans women are predators" fearmongering does lead to very direct violence, and how trans women are not the only group this has historically been used against, and talked about how in the US black people have been painted as sexual predators to justify violence against them, citing Emmett Till as an example.
Now, it's hard to drum up hate against someone talking about overlapping systems of oppression that, while not equivalent, have similarities in their histories that are worth looking at. But if you contract someone's point down as short as possible and replace each element of it with the most inflammatory thing possible, subbing in "incest fetishists" for trans women, and treating any discussion of similarities between different forms of oppression as "she's devaluing racism by comparing it to X" then yeah it sounds ridiculous.
At the end of the day, the people who do this sort of thing want to undermine any discussion of transmisogyny as unserious, so they do everything in their power to obscure what's actually said and make the most ludicrous strawmaid in its place. We see this time and again and again and again

After seeing the Howl’s Moving Castle musical I am a changed person and I never want to see fanart of Sophie Hatter as thin and white ever again.
If you weren’t aware that there was a Howl’s Musical, here ya go. Go throw money at this production company and hope they release an album or a recording because the show was honestly fucking perfect. We were in the front row and all five of us flailed so hard that the cast thanked us specifically “for our enthusiasm and energy” after the show.
This Sophie, played by Seattle actress Sara Porkalob, is your new god.
Tumblr media
She has micro-expressions down to an absolute art and the best comedic timing I’ve ever personally witnessed. She exists and was the perfect Sophie and now you know. You’re welcome.
Tumblr media
Sidenote but the night we saw it Howl was wearing a NEON PINK WIG and SPRAY PAINTED SILVER JEANS for almost the entire show and NO ONE will ever be a better Howl tbh.
Tumblr media
And Lettie and Martha were also great! The entire cast was great! Their physicality on stage was unbelievable!! The writing was superb!!! I can never see another musical as long as I live because of how perfect this one was!!!!!

You’re welcome.

Listen to me if that robot you've been chatting up reveals that they used to be a human, they do NOT want to hear you start talking about "from the moment I know the weakness of the flesh" or whatever, that's a personal and important thing to reveal about their past

Tbh not knowing anything about what feminizing hrt does in my opinion also betrays just a lack of knowledge on what estrogen does during puberty. Like hey if you didn’t know that feminizing hrt doesn’t affect the vocal chords what else do you not know about like, women in general

probably should have seen it coming I guess but it's pretty fucking annoying everyone saw a conversation about "people don't understand how difficult it is clothes shopping as a trans woman" and proceeded to show just how much they don't understand it by assuming it's only about sizing and not the constant societal surveillance and inability to use the change rooms and fear of being kicked out of the story and unwillingness even for friends to recognise that there's barriers in your way and try and help you.
even people trying to commiserate with me complaining about the dumb responses assumed that it was just about sizing. and phrased it all like "you're so seen and valid". fucking christ.
wow it's almost like people don't understand how challenging it is clothes shopping even years into transition as a trans woman! who could have guessed??????

earlier my friend said to me “somewhere out there, in an alternate universe, there’s an all female rock band called ‘king’” and I’m STILL recovering from that mental image and how gay it made me feel

we can't even get a basic "all men structurally benefit from a misogynist society" to pass on this website without a bunch of queer men shooting themselves into a panic cause they get too uncomfortable about the idea of being culpable to self reflect. "feminist" website

Here to remind you that saying that trans women as a whole can't pass as well as trans men is not only demonstrably false and reductive of trans people's diverse experiences, it is incredibly transmisogynistic.
So maybe stop pushing that harmful narrative.
There are many trans men that will never be able to pass no matter what. And there are many trans women who can pass pre/non everything. And everything in between. Every single person is different.
So many of you are so eager to lie about trans men's lived experiences that you either don't realize or don't care that constantly spreading the idea all over this site that trans women will never be able to pass as well is so incredibly harmful to trans women. Imagine having to constantly read, from people claiming to support you, that your transition is pointless because you won't pass anyway. Like this behavior is genuinely going to drive many trans women and transfems away from starting estrogen because they are being convinced it won't matter.
And this is not to say that "passing" should be the goal of trans people, because it shouldn't. The goal should be to become more comfortable in your own body. And many transfems are going to be robbed of that by this rhetoric that estrogen based HRT isn't worth it or not powerful.
So to any trans women out there that are considering starting estrogen but have felt discouraged by these type of posts saying trans women can't pass as well or that estrogen is not a powerful hormone: Do not listen to them. Do not let their words get you down or drive you away from starting E. Estrogen can do wonders and can be life changing and life saving.
