Hello, just a question about “Safe With Me”:

How did you come up with the Arabic-speaking antagonist? What made you decide to make the villain an Arab man?

Just curious :)

- an Arab woman tired of seeing negative and inaccurate representation of her people as “bad guys” in media (and now fanfiction, too).

Hey Nonny - thanks for the ask and I hear where you’re coming from. I know it’s a problem in wider media and it can be a huge source of frustration to see.

I can only speak for myself here and the fic I wrote, and share that context. The character you’re referencing is a Hydra operative, and while he is a bad guy he is not the villain of the story (that is someone else). The interaction he has with the Reader was while the Reader was living in Algeria, which was really the only reason for the language. Because the Reader understood him, I was trying to imply that she also speaks Arabic, but appreciate that may not have come through.

I always do my best to stay away from physical descriptions and coding, and focus more on personality and character traits to bring more nuance to characters, but I recognise that sometimes might lead to other assumptions.

Hey there I’m new to your page and came across your “safe with me” series and to say I’m in awe is an understatement. The story line is too good and the writing is like nothing I’ve ever read before. I’ve had a passion for writing ever since I was young but it is not well appreciated in my home so I write in secret and show to my friends alone. I wish to one day write like you. Such rich vocabulary and word blend. I’m such a fan. I’ve not yet completed the series, I’m in the 9 th chapter and I’m so excited to read the rest. I can’t wait to read your other works.
