England ODI Cricket Team!
After a good ODI series win against SL at home, England has a couple of things they need to sort. Nobody really gave England a chance to win the series and questions were raised against Cook being brought back into the side. He answered it brilliantly, personally by scoring 298 runs in 5 innings at 74.50 and with a SR of 97 and also leading the team to a series win against SL.
Even though they say don't mess up with a winning formula, there are a few things I'm not concerned but thinking about:
Ian Bell - At number 6, I think Bell looks like he's being wasted. He doesn't look too comfortable batting at 6. I mean, I trust Flower/England management but I'd like to see Bell at 5 and Morgs at 6. Suggestions have been dropping Bell and bringing in someone who can bat and bowl a bit(Wright, Bops, etc)
The opening pair of Kies and Cook seemed to be doing decently. I read earlier today about promoting KP to 3, so he doesn't have extra pressure when he comes to the crease and can play his natural game and Trotty at 4. Basically Trott bats the same( I know he can and does hit at times) when the team is 0-2 or 200-1 so. Might be worth a go.
Kies being a proper batter has given England the choice of playing a 5th specialist bowler if needed with Bres/Broad/Swann batting a bit. For bowling, Anderson, Bresnan, and Swann are definitely in there for me. For the 4th and the 5th bowler, England have choices of Broad, Tremlett, Finn, Dernbach, Shahzad, Rashid and Patel. So a bunch of choices there, I guess. I was thoroughly impressed by Dernbach's death bowling abilities though.
Depending on form, England can play bowler as the condition demands. They can go with with two spinner or go with 4 pace bowlers and ask KP to flex his arms a bit more. This is the same guy who bowled 57 overs against England back in 1997 playing for a South Africa A side.
So I have , for ODI teams,
1. Cook
2. Kies(Davies as a backup, He did pretty well in some of those ODIs he played)
3/4. KP/Trott
5/6. Bell/Morgs
Bowling:
7. Bresnan
8/9. Broad/Tremlett/Patel/Rashid/Finn
10. Anderson
11. Dernbach
I'm super excited for the England-India test series. Will be an absolute cracker.
Edit: Can't believe I accidentally dropped Swanny from the 11. He'll definitely play in my 11.
