SPST and DPDT
These acronyms represent the poles of the switch, and the number of poles (“S” for single, “D” for double). This is one of its most basic features. Poles are the number of circuits the switch can control, and throws represent the number of positions in which a switch can close a circuit. A single pole (SP) switch controls only one circuit. DC & Audio Connector Basics
While many connectors carry power in addition to data, some connectors are used specifically to provide power connections to devices. These vary widely by application and size, but we will only focus on some of the most common ones here.
Barrel Connectors
Barrel connectors are typically found on low-cost consumer electronics which can be plugged into wall power via bulky AC wall adaptors. Wall adaptors are widely available, in a variety of power ratings and voltages, making barrel connectors a common means for connecting power to small projects.

The female barrel connector, or “jack”, can be purchased in several varieties: PCB mounted (surface mount or through hole), cable mount, or panel mount. Some of these connectors will have an additional contact that allows the application to detect whether a power supply is plugged into the barrel jack or not, thus allowing the device to bypass batteries and save battery life when running on external power.
Female barrel connector. When no plug is inserted, the “insertion detection” pin will be shorted to the “sleeve” pin.
The male barrel connector, or “plug”, is usually only found in a wire termination variety, although there are multiple methods of attaching the plug to the end of the wire. It’s also possible to get plugs that come pre-attached to a cable.

Barrel connectors provide only two connections, frequently referred to as “pin” or “tip” and “sleeve”. When ordering, there are three differentiating characteristics of a barrel connection- inner diameter (the diameter of the pin inside the jack), outer diameter (the diameter of the sleeve on the outside of the plug), and polarity (whether the sleeve voltage is higher or lower than the tip voltage).
Sleeve diameter is most commonly either 5.5mm or 3.5mm.

Pin diameter is contingent upon sleeve diameter; a 5.5mm sleeve will have either a 2.5mm or 2.1mm pin. Unfortunately, this means that a plug designed for a 2.5mm pin will fit in a 2.1mm jack, but that the connection will be, at best, intermittent. 3.5mm sleeve plugs usually mate to a jack with a 1.3mm pin.
Polarity is the final aspect to consider; most often, the sleeve will be considered 0V and the tip will be a positive voltage relative to the sleeve. Many devices will have a small diagram indicating the polarity expected by the device; care should be taken to adhere to this, as an improper power supply may damage the device.
Plugs of both sleeve sizes are usually 9.5mm long, but longer and shorter ones do exist. All BITUO products use a negative 5.5mm sleeve and a positive 2.1mm pin; we recommend sticking to that standard where possible, as it seems to be the most common flavor found in the wild.

How to Wire Rotary Switches?
A rotary switch connects several devices to an electric source. The electricity enters the rotary switch’s input terminal and the switch sends electricity to the output terminal selected. Some rotary switches contain more than one circuit. These contain two or more input terminals, called “poles,” and each input circuit connects to multiple output terminals, or “ways.” A 2P4W rotary switch contains two poles and each pole connects to four ways. The center terminals on a rotary switch connect to the electric source and the terminals around the outside of the housing connect to the devices.

Step 1
Find the rotary switch’s “1” output terminal for each input terminal. Some rotary switches have labels stamped into the housing next to the terminals. If not, turn the switch to the “1” position. Place one ohm meter probe on the input terminal and touch the output terminals with the ohm meter’s second probe until the meter reads continuity. Consider the terminal with continuity “1.”
Step 2
Prepare the wire ends for the rotary switch. If the wires solder to the rotary switch terminals, remove 1/4 inch of each wire’s insulation with wire strippers. In all other cases, install the proper terminal connector on each wire.
Step 3
Attach the power supply wire to the rotary switch’s input terminal. If the wires solder to the rotary switch, hold the power supply wire against the input terminal and apply solder with a soldering iron and solder. If the rotary switch uses terminal connectors, push the power supply terminal connector on to the input terminal. Repeat this for each rotary switch circuit.
Step 4
Secure the device wires to the rotary switch’s output terminals with either the terminal connectors or solder. Connect the first device to the “1” terminal, then connect the remaining devices in the order of operation with the second device connected to the terminal clockwise of the first terminal, the third clockwise of the second, and so on. Repeat this on each rotary switch circuit.

From that we can easily conclude that a 3PDT is equivalent to 3 double throws at the same time. You have two position for 3 switches with 2 positions each:

That means to say that on one position, the middle pins are connected to the ones of the top (2 is connected to 1 for instance), and in another position to the ones on the bottom of the switch.
How to use it for true bypass?
When you want to do a true bypass, you want a simple thing:
in one position (position 1), input and output jacks are directly connected, the signal does not goes through the circuit (bypass)
Position 2: input jack goes to the input of the circuit, the output of the circuit is connected to the output jack, and a beautiful shiny LED is on.
For position 2, there are 3 conditions to be filled, that is why we need a 3PDT !

How to choose the best Car USB Charger to be fitted in your car?

It is convenient to charge phones and many other devices that can use cables linked to USB sockets for charging.
Sometimes cars or vehicles may not be fitted with USB connections, or it may be that a variety of devices need to be charged using a USB charger whilst on the move in a vehicle.
In many instances, a USB charger that takes power from the vehicle’s cigarette lighter power socket can be invaluable.
Knowing what to consider when buying a car USB charger is key to making sure you make the best buy.
What is a car USB charger?
A car USB charger is a small adaptor that plugs into the cigarette lighter/accessory port found on virtually all cars and provides one or more USB outputs.
As the cigarette lighter/accessory port provides a nominal 12 volts output, the car USB charger converts this voltage to the 5 volts required for the USB supply.
Also as the car 12 volt supply can vary considerably and also have spikes and surges on it as a result of the other car electrical systems. The car USB charger needs to protect against these so that anything connected to the USB port will not be damaged by this.
In its basic form the car USB charger can be used to charge a host of devices from smartphones and tablets to power banks and even certain models of camera. It is worth remembering, though, that the cigarette lighter/accessory port on the car is only active when the engine is running. This is done so that the car battery cannot be discharged accidentally by leaving a heavy current appliance in the socket.
Some car USB chargers can contain a lot more functionality, acting as a connectivity hub – some are able to connect to music players including mobile phones and radiating an FM signal to be picked up by the car radio. This can be very useful if no USB functionality exists in the car. They may also enable hands-free phone calls to be made.
These car USB chargers are very useful when smartphones are used as satnavs with applications like Waze as they tend to use a lot of battery as the screen is live all the time. They can also be useful for keeping batteries for the tablets etc. used to keep the children happy on long journeys.
What to consider when buying a car USB charger?
When buying a USB charger, there are a number of points to consider – buying the best USB charger will mean that it will fulfil its purposes.
Multiple sockets:   Consider what you might want to charge. How many devices are you likely to want to connect at any one time? Most car USB chargers have two outputs, and this is often enough, but if there is a possibility of more being required, then car USB chargers with four outputs are also available. As the cigarette lighter/accessory ports are often located near the gear lever or other controls for the car, be careful not to have too many leads in this area. Size:   It is worth considering the size of the car USB charger. This can be important if the 12 volt lighter / power point is located close to any of the driver controls. Check that any USB charger will not obstruct anything, and the leads can also be routed away from the vehicle controls. Some of the chargers with more outlets and more functionality have to be larger and often taller. Check that any device can be accommodated easily.
Power output:   Not all the outputs on the car USB charger may be the same. Check the current capability they provide. They provide around 2.1 or 2.4 amps dependent upon the device, but check what you need.
Car USB chargers providing 2.1 and 2.4amp are now common. It’s important to get one with a good output as a charger that is lower rated than the device requires means it will take longer to charge. Make sure that the output is available on all the USB sockets. Some chargers may only have a high output on a limited number of their outputs, so check the small print.
The newer smartphones and tablets can consume more power to charge them as the batteries are larger. It is best to check the details on the wall charger provided with the phone and then ensure the car USB charger that is bought has at least one socket with the required output.
Smartphones are ideal for use with apps like Waze, etc that provide driving instructions. The constant screen usage combined with at of the GPS that needs to be constantly updated drains the battery faster than usual. This means that it is particularly important to have a car USB charger that can provide sufficient power to power the smartphone. A typical 2.4 Amp capability should be sufficient in most cases, but it is always best to check.
Fast charging:   Most of the latest smartphones incorporate a form of fast charging. There is the Qualcomm Quick Charge Samsung Adaptive fast Charge and Apple PD. These standards enable a much faster charge to be obtained, whilst not unduly degrading the long- term performance of the battery in the device. Quality:   The term quality can be a particularly vague term, and one which is very hard to assess. Often the popular brands or those with good review ratings will best. It is worth thinking about the cost. Although this is not a complete indicator, the exceedingly cheap ones are unlikely to have all the testing and safeguards in place. After all, the better brands have a name to protect, so that are likely to make sure their products are reliable and conform to the right standards. Would you trust you really expensive smartphone on a car USB charger that costs just a dollar / GB pound / Euro? It is worth spending a little more for peace of mind and the better quality you are likely to get.
Don’t buy cheap car USB chargers of dubious quality – these are likely to compromise on certain safeguards that other models provide for handling the fluctuations in voltage that occur around car electrics or for taking care of overheating problems. It’s just not worth it.
There is a huge variety of car USB chargers on the market. Fortunately, most of the reasonably priced chargers are reliable and provide excellent performance. Provided that you don’t go for the exceedingly cheap ones available and you select one that has broadly the right functionality and capability, then it is likely to give good performance. Bear in mind points like accessibility, likely reliability, built in leads, and output capability and all should be fine. If you need additional functionality, again, don’t go for those are too cheap, and check the functionality is exactly what you need.

How to connect the On/Off Switch & LED Rocker Switch
How to wire a rocker switch to a circuit is a common query many people have. There is the basic on/off rocker switch that we’re are all familiar with but not everybody knows how to wire, and then there’s also the lighted variety that even less people may know how to wire up!
Rocker Switches
Below you will find a basic on/off rocker switch wiring diagram as well as an easy to understand illuminated rocker switch wiring diagram so no matter what your needs, after reading this, you will come up with an idea to put switches on all your LEDs by yourself. You can do this because it’s so simple and you will find key points you need to know right here.
Rocker switch wiring diagram
This is the most basic type of switch – the On/Off rocker switch, (as shown using BITUO’s Black Anti Vandal Toggle Switch, mounts in 16mm or 19mm hole).

For the LED rocker switch, pay careful attention to the position of your ground, power and acc pins, follow the diagram below, (it uses BITUO’s LED Round Rocker Switch: MRS-5 Series)with recommended mounting hole diameter of 3/4″) and you should have no problems wiring a LED rocker switch:
