it might be because I’ve had a godawful day and an even worse last 9 days but I am starting to unfollow/block people - depending on the extent of wrongness of opinion - being dicks about cherry magic thailand
At best y’all haven’t watched dark blue kiss and missing how taynew are great actors with great chemistry. ~oh but they’ve had beef in the past~ so? If kristsingto can reunite for a concert then taynew can’t move past their petty squabbles and idk DO THEIR JOBS that they have proven they’re good at doing?? apparently not only do the people on this website not have friends they apparently also don’t know what jobs are.
Or do you not know that the director of cherry magic Thailand is the same person who directed Vice Versa??? - a show about not just soulmates but developing a relationship with another person to BECOME soulmates. The central theme is trusting the core of another person after every superficial thing about who they are is stripped away???????????? Like do you not how see this director handles trust, vulnerability and desire - the core of cherry magic - so brilliantly???????????? Did jimmysea act their butts off for nothing????????
But at worst y’all are completely missing the undertones of desire in cherry magic.
~it’s sweet and innocent~ sorry like are you infantilizing Kurosawa and Adachi or Japanese people in general? Did you miss that a large theme of cherry magic is centered around sex and virginity and the central conflict of that show is literally gaining enough trust in both oneself and a partner to take that step???? I know that cherry magic movie has stripped cherry magic of desire and queerness but Jesus Christ y’all need to go back and watch the original show because the movie =/= the show
So Thailand can’t do desire now??? Or do you have some fucked up puritanical view of sex and think the portrayal of sex will ~ruin~ cherry magic??? or do you find the country too inferior to ever do justice to a Japanese show?????
people ARE entitled to their wrong opinions but some of them are like borderline offensive and I have no desire to know that type of person.
so bye bye!

Dark Blue Kiss really deserves more credit for the social issues it brought up. Non’s not really the villain of the series; if anything, by what we see of his life, he’s what Pete could have become without his father’s and Kao’s support, love, and influences. Meanwhile, Kao’s entire character arc is a microcosm of queer-related fears coming true: in rapid succession, he’s outed, accused of sexual assault, and barred from his fledgling career as a tutor. The antagonist of PeteKao’s arc is their own society.
Kao’s not just afraid that his mother won’t support him—he’s also afraid that coming out will complicate her career in education as well. He knows her boss is homophobic, and then he sees firsthand how her boss treats his queer son. Ultimately, it’s only because Pete has a privileged place in society and a broad platform on social media that he’s able to share evidence of Kao’s innocence and resurrect Kao’s career. The series ends on a happy note with Kao finally ready and comfortable to live as openly gay, but there’s the quiet, sad reality on the fringes that he would have had a much colder future without someone rich and famous using his social capital for Kao’s benefit.
That’s not even going into SunMork’s whole arc, which I love for different reasons, but still has a strong line of queer experience at its core. I think queer people in general have a difficult time trusting others because we’re constantly on edge. We’re shown Sun’s rocky relationship with his father and Mork’s financial struggles, and neither of them sees each other as open enough to rely on. Sun sees anyone who might take Rain away from him as a threat, and Mork is justifiably frustrated by Sun’s relentless antagonism and only reaching partway to take Mork’s hand.
It’s such a good series, and I do hate that the barrier for entry is so high because I love recommending it to people. It’s not for everyone, I know, but damn is it right up my alley. 💖

When Sarawat said it’s not about being open or not. We’re just two people who love each other and Pete said I’m good because I want to be. I don’t have to be a better person than everyone else because I like men and Gene said I should tell you if I’m gay or not? When I think about it it’s really none of your business and when Fighter said how can yo be so sure that your heterosexual love is steady? My mom left you. She left you for another man. Let me ask you honestly how can you judge people’s love? and when Korn said and even though it might not be Knock, I would never be able to be the man that you always wanted me to be and when Vlad said gay, homo, queer, pink. Just say it. It needs no euphemism. It’s not an insult. and when Pran said is it even my job to be responsible for your feelings?

it's still wild to me that the sotus our skyy episode was the next step in arthit and kong's relationship, showing the deep struggle with long distance relationships and the fear that something so important to you may crumble and turn sour despite your efforts, and coming to accept that possibility while also moving forward and appreciating each day with that love for however long it lasts, choosing to persevere despite fear
and in the dark blue kiss our skyy episode, pete and kao ran some errands

@optimisticdreamtacoshark - I'm glad you enjoyed my Dark Blue Kiss color post. I highly encourage everyone to rewatch the series because not only does it hold up after three years, but maybe your eyes might catch some smaller details:
T-shirts:
Since T-shirts were Mork and Sun's love language...
When Sun is trying to get Mork to go home with him and explaining how Mork could be better, Mork's shirt reads "I AM BASIC"
After Sun kisses Mork, and Mork runs away to avoid Sun, Mork wakes up in a "NO" shirt
Mork gives Sun a different shirt to wear claiming they were the only ones left in the gift shop; however, they continue to stand in the best positions for the "MINE" signs to point to the other AND Mork's shirt is American Sign Language for "I love you"
Rain's first scene has him wearing a "I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome" shirt
And his last scene has him wearing "My Giant" shirt
When Non was trying to confess to Kao, Kao's shirt states "La piscine" in blue and red, which is Pete's color, and means "The pool" in French which is Pete's favorite place
And when Non is lying to Pete about being invited over for dinner, his shirt states "I know you think you know everything" in red, which is Pete's (and Non's) color
Background & Signs:
When the show starts, the sign for the Blue Sky Cafe's, which blue boy Sun owns, is completely in blue
But as the red rascal Mork warms his way into Sun's heart, the sign integrates Mork's red
Whenever blue boys Kao and Sun are experiencing hardships, their backgrounds are highlighted in blue reinforcing who they are and giving them support
When the barista from the other coffee shop is flirting with Mork, the sign next to Mork states "No Entry Allowed" since his heart already belongs to Sun
And when Sun asks Mork to stay, their hands touch next to the blue "I love you to the sea & back" notebook
When Mork leaves Sun, and Sun is wandering around missing Mork, he unknowingly stops in front of the place Mork is now working and the sign behind him tells him to go "IN"
And when they fight outside the bar, the wall reads "FAKE: Human beings survive by faith, love, and belief in dreams. Life is so short. Let's be happy"
A constant sore point between Kao and Pete is Pete's desire to be open about their relationship, while Kao is afraid; therefore Pete is usually reinforced by rainbows and colors while Kao isn't
And when Pete and Kao breakup, the multicolored books behind Pete read "Love Story" and "Second Wind" aka second chance in red and blue, Pete and Kao's colors
Barriers:
Kao and Pete never have physical barriers to demonstrate emotional disconnect until this moment. Non is literally and figuratively the divide between Pete and Kao
After that, several physical barriers come between Pete and Kao as they struggle to communicate
In this scene, Pete once again argues for Kao to admit publicly that they are dating. The barrier between them is an open door which symbolizes honesty and living openly. This door in every other scene had been closed.
The distance between them grows so much that wide shots are used to show the empty space that is normally filled with their love. The barrier also still exists with the sign that reads "We make life easier, safer, and greener" which shows irony.
Mork and Sun also experience communication barriers, but their barrier features several items in pairs: the cups, the cakes, the images on the chalkboard, the tea packets, etc.
For Funsies:
Mork and Sun serving us vers
If you spot any others, let me know, and as usual, thank the director P'Aof and the cinematographer Rath for a great visual narrative.
I also did this for Semantic Error in case anyone is interested.

Dark Blue (and Red) Kisses
Did a rewatch of Dark Blue Kiss because seeing New in The Warp Effect and watching Rath's cinematography on Never Let Me Go, who was also the cinematographer for Dark Blue Kiss, had me thinking thoughts and lo and behold,
Dark Blue Kiss has color-coded boys:
Kao and Sun are blue boys who are intelligent, loyal, and conservative:
Pete and Mork are red rascals who are passionate, spontaneous, and aggressive:
But before we get into the colors, I'm still salty we didn't get a Neo and Phuwin spin-off since they were clearly colored to be the next pair of destined lovers arguing with each other like that for everyone to see and hear!
Back to the point - Pete and Kao are a blue boy and a red rascal in love when the show begins
They exchange colors often because that's what color-coded boys do when they are in love
But a major issue of the show is Pete's growing suspicion that Kao doesn't love him as much as he loves Kao. Kao is a blue boy through and through and afraid to publicly admit he is in love with a red rascal
And the only time he wears Pete's red (or hues of it) are when he is trying to make up for hiding that he is tutoring Non from Pete
Non is also a red rascal, but he carries all of the negative traits - dominant, dangerous, and impulsive
Since Pete, a fellow red rascal, knows red flags when he sees them, he makes sure to establish that Kao is his blue boy by wearing Kao's blue
Non, being the huge red flag he is, tries to be incorporate Kao's blue too without Kao reciprocating
Which causes a huge fight between Kao and Pete, and they are devoid of color for at least three episodes because of it
But, by the end, Non is kicked to the curb, and Pete and Kao are fine and exchanging colors again like the lovebirds they are! Pete's in love, I promise.
Now the second pair - Sun and Mork are a blue boy and (labeled) red rascal; however, Mork is only a red rascal because the world has branded him such which is why his red tends to be muted
So, surprising no one, the second Sun kisses Mork and gives him love, Mork picks up Sun's blue quicker than cookies baking in a car on a hot summer day in Phoenix
Even when Sun blames Mork for the damage to his coffee shop due to the fight, Mork is still in love with Sun. He is injured, yet mixing their colors together to make pair purple and pair pink, and after he is released, he continues to wear Sun's blue

Thankfully, Mork doesn't easily forgive Sun for not recognizing his true self and makes Sun work for a second chance, but the pay off is sweet, and the boys finally exchange their colors
*This is an actual screenshot with no enhancements (because I don't have the skills to do such things) that shows both boys muted while Sun's arm is highlighted in red and the top of Mork's head and the wall behind it are blue. In case you can't feel it, I'm losing my shit over the subtle color exchange and might actually be building an altar to worship Rath's unbelievable skills. I will be living in this scene for the next seven to ten months. I am not going to be normal about this.*
And because I have reached my picture limit and need to go build this altar to worship Rath, know that all ends well for both of the couples and they continue giving each other Dark Blue (and Red) Kisses.
Does anyone know where I can get a lock of Rath's hair?

random aged-up!haikyuu!! au thoughts, where they’re all older but most of them are still playing professional volleyball: social media double dating kuroken wedding
hinata: we’re NOT getting together until you admit that IM A GOOD SPIKER
kageyama: well then i guess we’re NEVER GETTING TOGETHER!!
everyone else is torn between letting this play out because the betting pool is worth truly colossal amounts of money by now, and dying, because the demon duo needs a better outlet for all that sexual tension…bang it out somewhere other than the volleyball courts pls…the refs are watching……..
on the other hand, the news reporters are at the point where they’re willing to pay oikawa to stop talking about his sex life
on an unrelated note, iwaizumi is willing to pay anything to not hear about his sex life in volleyball news
oikawa is torn between letting the world think he’s some kind of sex god and being very lost, because he doesnt know that sex term and at this point its WAY too late to ask
(not pictured: iwaizumi trying to channel the stone for which he was named)

Wow so it really was just queerbaiting the entire time huh. I am so disappointed. I’m not even going to be able to go back and re-watch this show I’ve loved for years. And I actually let myself be hopeful. Poor Cas. Poor Misha. What the fuck were those writers doing. What the fuck.
